I don't know about MK1's but the MK2 seats are covered in green Rexine. I had mine covered in quite a good look a like modern vinyl material. Just made up these two parts over the last two afternoons. Thanks to those who were able to provide the info/drawings on the convoy light thread.

Not much has been happening with my Carrier as I really don't have that much left to do. (other then getting my engine back) However I did pickup a rather cool piece of "kit" for it this week. Actually I was given it. :thup2: Its a Boys Mk1 Anti Tank Rifle made by Inglis in 1943.

Picked up a couple of neat bits for the carrier the other day at a gun show. Got 2 British green flares in mint shape. Now to just find 2 more matching ones then the white and red ones.

I also spent a few minutes to paint the inside of the radio battery box in glossy black as was discovered from those factory pictures posted a while ago.

Lastly, Ive added the tow chain brackets and a much better copy of the pick axe helve end bracket. Those were the last pieces I needed for my tool plate. Although you can't see it, I have also added the rear convoy lamp bracket on the reverse side of the plate.

Hopefully I will have my engine back soon and then I can have fun getting the whole vehicle back together again. This will give me some much needed room in the barn to work on other projects.

Made up the battery hold down rods that go in the radio battery box today. The 2 grey pieces are part of the WS19 setup.

Another part bites the dust, ummm make that checked off the "to aquire" list. Thanks to the generosity of a fellow MLU'er I managed to get a really nice complete radio battery cable conduit and its mounting brackets. I can't get over just how over engineered this part is for what it does. But thats why I like these machines...

It might seem over engineered for the occasion Jordan. But in those days it was just every day bog standard electrical conduit. probably used on most home and industrial wiring installations. :thup2: Ron

Basically it was to stop rats and mice eating the insulation off the wiring.

Ive been busy with my engine. After 2.5 years I finaly got it back after having it rebuilt/built up from new. I had to take all the bits off of it so that it could be re-painted. I agonized for a few days trying to figure out what colour to repaint it. I decided on a light grey colour. #1 reason, I like the colour, #2 It will be easier to see once back in the hull and #3 its a bit different then being simply more green.

I managed to pickup over the past few years most of what I needed to make a "carrier" engine. Thankfully my first engine that came with the carrier had most of what I needed. However I have sourced out the NOS ignition suppresor, NOS fuel pump (new diaphram) oil cooler valve and NOS tubes, fuel selector switch and NOS generator suppressor. Ive also got NOS spark plug suppressors (not shown)

The John Deer was used to move the engine from one side of the barn to the other where my carrier is. That flathead is rather heavy but the tractor did a great job. I then used my Princess Auto engine hoist to lift the engine up. Right now I've got the engine resting on the rear horizontal plate until Im ready to lower it back into the hull.

Lastly I managed to get some new braided fuel lines made up at a local hydraulics store. I had to supply the braided fuel line but they put on the 1/4 BSP swivle connectors for me.

Engine looks fabulous!

Work has been super busy with callin shifts so not much has happened. However I did find the time to make up the throttle rod springs thanks to the diagrams in another threat. Very much appreciated.

I cut them out with an angle grinder and a thin cutting disk. I also rivited the two cast pieces onto the one spring. My uncle gave me a hand as he held the torch and got the rivet orange then I went to town with a hammer and tool to flatten it down.

One more part off of the check list.

Got another part made up today. CTL 2723 is the radiator drain tube mount. The part was cut from sheet metal with a handheld scroll saw. Cleaned up the edges with a grinder and file, Drilled the holes, stamped the part #'s then bent it to shape. Gave it a sandblasting then primed with self etching primer.

The original is the one on the right side.

nice work jordan, it's obvious you have an eye for detail. :thup2: and thanks for the description on how to manufacture the various parts you make. it's there for all to see should they need to replicate them for their own carrier.

Not much to report on. Its winter and the barn is rather cold to work in. However I just get in the mail some nice new cast parts from Ben. Now I just need to wait the 1.5 weeks untill Im not working to actually do something, other then look at them, with them.

Hi all

My carrier is slowly getting back together when I have the chance to work on it. I refinished the radiator cowl and painted it in KG#3 Last year I had a couple of radiator pipes made up from an original one that I had. Unknown to me, but the originals were two different lengths to account for the offset in the heads. All was fine until I went to install the LS pipe and found it 3/4" too long.

I also picked up an original fuel tank for a Mk1* Currently I have filled the tank with a parts cleaner to help clean out the old fuel sludge.

Im envious of your gas tank Jordan. The engine looks great!

The smoke generator bin is fully done as well. Internals were patterned off of originals.

I also decided to stencil on a FMCO42 and the part number onto the wooden battery hold down/cover. I thought it looks good and figure its just another detail.

Lastly I rebuilt my original fuel tank. This involved sloshing muriatic acid around inside to remove the rust and lots and lots of flushing with water and baking soda. This opened up 3 very small pin holes so I soldiered them back up. I then used the fuel tank liner from Mac's Auto and the gas tank etch. Everything worked very well and I did 2 coats of the liner in the tank. Im very happy with the results. I also added the No2 Cooker tray.

I riveted on the cast fuel tank hold downs to the hull floor. I ended up using an air hammer and modified one of the punches. I cut the point off of the punch then ground it out into a dished shape. For a bucking bar I used a bottle jack with a 1/4" plate between the ram and the hull floor. It was very easy to do and I was very happy with the results.

Its not the best picture but this was the finished result.

Here is how the jack was setup. It held all 4 rivets in place while I hit them from the inside.

Lastly are a few pictures of the No2 cooker and pot/pan installed, the carrier fuel funnel in place and with a 2 gallon petrol tin.

More small stuff.

Added the rear seat cushion strap. I ended up using a Pat37 webbed trouser belt. It fit perfectly.

Hi Jordan, I remember your thread on making those rear seats, did you ever come across an original one, I know you we're asking for info a while back, I need to make two as original as possible. I also need details of the wood floor boards.

Jordan, I have been looking for your thread on the rear seat construction, is it a seperate thread, if so the title please, also as your carrier started out as a Tank Hunter did you note any differences on the rear seat angle iron supports compared to a standard stowage carrier, I believe there were removal steel plates over the petrol tanks on this model which rested on the same supports. The parts book also gives listing for different components for this set up, I have included a picture of this seating arrangement, note the bren magazine boxs stowed behind the seat cushions. Any info you have will be appreciated.

Some more stuff I have been working on. Using copies of original parts drawings for the upper engine covers I decided to make two new ones for the left side. The original I have is heavily pitted and the other was a loaner item from another MLU'er.

All the edges were hand filed down to get rid of the razor sharpness from the shear. One interesting observation is that the part number is stamped along the same center line used for the bottom of the slots.

Kevin, no idea on the thread title. I fear that it was four letter words and are now unable to search for it. As for the other question I remember giving you that info in the past. Just can't remember what that info was. :doh:
