Actually, one might be tempted to suggest there are a couple of letters missing from between the "a" and the "Hole" in this particular application, but far be it from me to point that out - I'm much too polite and mindful of others' feelings!

Saturday - An Interesting Day at the Barn
As per usual, I arrived at the barn early and went to work to dispel the myth that US tires cannot properly fit Brit rims. Well, they fit beautifully. I added a flap this morning, then a little soapy water to lube up the rubber. The split rims went in snugly without too much of a fight. Keep in mind it was -3oC with a wind chill of -6oC. After inflating to 50 pounds, there was no real gap to speak of and the tire looked right at home. Bob ambled by later in the morning and was so taken with the tire, that he wore a SEG all morning.

More Barn Frolics
Bob and Grant continued in their "Frank and Gordon" vein and cut up the remaining scrub brush for future Lucifer feedings.

More info on the tires will be on the tire thread..... Overall a good day.... Rob proved the tires could be mounted on a CMP with basic hand tools..... Grant rebuilt the 2 HP motor for the band saw.... We cut a trailer load of wood for Lucifer.... Installed the tarp cover on the Winter shelter for Ted's truck.. and managed to squeeze the last bit of acetelyne gas out of the tanks to heat up each nut on the CMP rim so we could take it apart for a new tire....... rim was derusted and will need painting before reassembly..... Nice to have a couple of guys to work with on weekends.... BooB |

Diameter??
So kay, the inner diameter is 16 inches. They fit the beads. They exist and are tangible. But what, for those who have clearance issues but love new tires, is the outer diameter?

I have also posted some information in the....."generating interest"..... basically the original tire thread..... The tire stands tall ......a bit over 38 inches and the circumference is about 120 inches...... Fitting on a standard size C15a front end configuration should not be problem........ having seen pictures of the Aussies running 11:00x20 inch tires on on their C15a supports that application. The new tire measures almost exactly 10.5 inches wide..... Bob |

Today was another day devoted mainly to housekeeping duties although a (one holer) water pump acquired from e-bay was freed up. Some farm implements were freed from the weeds, then we settled in for the real objective, moving a couple of cars out of their hiding places to be easier for the scrap merchants to pick up. The first victim was a Mercury Capri that had no redeeming value except that it had been driven by Bob's wife Joyce. Then we moved on to a rarer specimen, the Volvo in the attached photo. A chain was attached to the rear axle and as the tractor began its pull a creaking noise was heard and the whole front end folded upward. So much rusting had occured from ground contact that the floor, firewall and lower corners of the A pillars parted company spilling seats and other bits onto the ground. Of course all the would be comedians had their say; "Things seem to be unfolding as they should", "Too bad it wasn't a Mercedes Bends", "So much for the advertised safety cage for the occupants" etc. We also collected up a bunch of other rusty metal (not CMP parts, except for a winch cable that was beyond saving). With any luck Bob gets a suitable lump of cash for the scrap instead of letting it do the typical farm rust away to nothing. An early end was called to the cleanup by my need to report for work and Bob's need to report for domestic duty.

Bob, We have some issues to work thru with the scrap dealer - he is now offering $25.00 less than last week citing scrap price decreases...
On the good news side, he will be available next Saturday to take away the vehicles and some of your waste metal. More to follow. |

We have about an extra 2 cars worth of scrap steel and cast iron farm implements ready to go..... certainly worth a few dollars worth..about two trailers worth...plus the old bonder on a corner of the large field. Let's go for next Saturday...... tell him cash money!! no checks. Grant di not tell you we loaded the trailer 3/4 full... then dumped it goiong backwards with the hitch undone...... I was driving the tractor...DUH....... "reload"..... has a new meaning now. Boob |

Bob, the price of scrap is indeed down. In the interest of raising $$$ for a future project I am scrapping a whack of vehicles. The price has gone down from $1200.00 to $1000.00 in the last week. Scrap typically goes down this time of year. Our local smelter makes a lot of construction steel and that industry slows down in winter so maybe that has an effect. I have a lot of aluminum rads and searchlight parts that I think I will keep til spring when the price goes back up. That way I will have gas money for a trip to your BBQ. :D
