They say neccesity is the mother of invention but in my case it is just a distinct lack of money

F60s with a 302

Hi Andrew,
I'm back tracking here a bit, but was that yellow F60S with the Ford 302 in it you found fitted with the original manual gearbox or with a later model auto gearbox?

Best left where it is

I wonder if its got the flextor suspension: the early ones had it. I'd rather have the early Falcon ute ? next to it

I would rather the XM as well .Was his fathers
Very bad design for the steering linkages in the Austin .goes around the world with about 6 joints just to get to the stubs !!!
He commented on boat like handling
Rich sent similar sentiment on the Austin "Very easy to find, very hard to get rid of" :D

By ARN and Keith's research
One of the first evaluation CMP's in Australia :salute:
Almost certain to be first FGT in Oz :thup2: :thup2: :thup2:
Cab 11, early chev diffs, no vents ,early dash

David_Hayward (RIP) 21-03-11 09:24

Wow!

Is any data known on it please? I cannot see that it was ex-British Middle East at this juncture as I thought that all were # 12 cabs, then #13.

Keith Webb 21-03-11 09:30

Brilliant!

Fantastic news, Andrew and congratulations.

David, it was sent directly from Canada for evaluation.

Aha!

I was hoping that you were going to say that! :)

I must check my notes but the first approaches were made from Canberra to the DND in Ottawa iun June 1940 about CMPs. I must now look to see if I cna find any evidence of any order placed for evaluation vehicles. It may be that there is no record and this is new history. Is the engine/serial number known please which will pin down its likely build month? Also, when it arrived?

Well done :note:

Bob McNeill 21-03-11 09:41

worth the wait

Good on ya, seems like the stress of a border raid from ebay was worth it, Good to see it go to a good home where it will reside with other gt,s. Big w/end by the look of it.

Keith Once again I cannot thank you enough for your ongoing help :salute:

Would be good to get a copy of the ARN sheet at some stage

Would also be interesting to know how many Cab 11's and 12's there is in OZ in both marques that are known about :confused

Well done AJ.
What's one more project! :thup2:

David_Hayward (RIP) 21-03-11 12:19

New info!

This is indeed new history! The engine number indicates May 1940 assembly of the engine, so say June 1940 assembly at the most of the vehicle. This is thus a very early FGT! One of the first in fact. Is anything known about it from the ARN book?

Very interesting .Will have to pay a visit to the AWM to get a copy from AWM 126 :salute:

David_Hayward (RIP) 22-03-11 12:03

Awm

:salute:

The dates of acquisition will be of immense value & interest. This may well be re-writing history as I said..and beggars the question as to whether there were any other CMPs imported at the same time?

Keith Webb 22-03-11 12:20

AWM 126 is a series of ledgers - you'll need to ask for the right ones. Not sure how things are now but several years ago when I last looked at some they had to be ordered in advance as they were being kept offsite. I'd imagine you'd be able to ask for the one with that particular range of ARNs though.

hrpearce 22-03-11 12:55

Correct Keith you can order to view a particular ARN or range on line a fiew days before going to Canberra. For first timers you have to regester as a reasurcher first then order.
When you regester you get a RCIS number this speeds up the ordering of books for research.
