All Blitzes were made in England, otherwise why would they be right hand drive? All Blitzes were originally Ford V8 powered and the V8s were also made in England They were all capable of 80 mph. He also insisted that the SAS used Austin Champs in the Western Desert in 1942 because they were more reliable than Jeeps. I didn't try too hard to tell him the truth. :giveup Some people will never be told. |
Fantastic find to include a Bofors and the orig tray
Do you have a pic of the stamping for the details you list? Just interested in case there is also the WO number somewhere. And the chassis number presumably has 8443... also what is the ARN I can see but not quite read on your first image?

Hi Robert W,
I wanted to reply earlier but a cloud came between me and the saterlight. You have a great Blitz and gun there and you were lucky the tray stayed out of sight for so long. I don't make a living out of spraying but at least I managed to pick up enough work to pay for the work done to the blitz so far. I only get jobs the others carn't do as I am much slower than the modern rigs and I charge a similar hourley rate. |

More from the experts, this time in print.
Greg found a book on a sale table in front of a book store, " TANKS AND ARMORED FIGHTING VEHICLES VISUAL ENCYCLOPEDIA", an English book printed in China. |

I am not one of the "experts" or profess to be anything of the sort but Just looking at the thumbnail They must not have done their editing very well . It states a chev C60l with a ford v8 powerplant Before the other ford boys chip in -I really do not know if that would be an improvement  |

The tail of the conversation went something like this... Me: Yes I have a couple of Blitzes that I intend to restore. Xp: Oh, yeah, Willies, eh? Me: Ah, No, Blitz Trucks. Ex: Yeah, Yeah, WIllies! Me: Ah, no, I have Fords, but Chev also made them. Xp: Yeah, yeah... Willies! They were a willies design! Ford & Chev made them for Willies! Me: Well, actually, the design was first penned by a bloke called Sid Swallow who worked for ford... and... yeah,,, then Willies. Thank you, have a good day. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: |

Or the bloke at the Temora Aviation Museum that Rod told us about H.
He stood in front of my truck and claimed 'They're having a lend of us! Blitzes didnt look like this, this looks nothing like a Blitz!' I wasnt there at the time, the truck was on display to the public. How do you convince someone when he's still trying to tell you the "facts" even when the evidence to the contrary is right in front him? :sheep: Dont worry, Im not beating myself up - I think its hilarious |

I haven't had a chance to drive my blitz for a couple of months so as it was a warm day today I drove it to Batlow for the monthly club meeting. I had a great day teaching fellow moterists to relax and have patience on the long stretches of double lines  I parked in front of the IGA to do grocery shopping on the way home and the blitz turned a lot of heads. I think most of the P platers in there shiny new cars thought I was crazy by the looks they gave me.

Nice one Robert.
I like to look in the rear vision mirror to see all my "followers" too. :yappy:

How embassering I forgot the rule of checking gully crossings with a stick before driving into them after a flood. Feel free to laugh.

Hope it wasn't a long walk to get the tractor!
|
Should have mentioned that about 1Km mostly downhill.
|
Oops!!!
Haven't done THAT yet but nearly did on the Oodnadatta Track at Alberrie Creek in August. The mud/ooze was over the sidesteps front to rear on my 4x4. Took 6 of us 4 hours to dig, jack, pull, swear and 10 railway sleepers of the old Ghan railway to get it out. Once we broke the suction, it was a lot easier. I did think we would have to bring in an excavator to extract it. So a downhill walk to the tractor would have been a soda. Happy New Year, Robert. |

How about a Blitz rescuing a tractor, as you can see, a Blitz winch 'trippled' up with snatch blocks has quite a pulling force!
Paddocks are wet around Yass! |
Excellent
But how was the blitz anchored?
|
It was anchored to a smallish casurina type tree with a chain and wheel chocks.
|
Anchor
That is a very impressive effort. Did anyone get some motion footage of it? Any more pics of the blitz?
|
Sorry Keith, no action shots, I was operating the Blitz and the bogee was at the wheel of the tractor during recovery, and I wasn't really thinking about Blitz photography at the time anyhow. I know, I need to reasess my priorities.

I washed the blitz and Vicki and I went on the first run for the year. The mountain man run at Batlow. We went on a scenic tour around the hills of Batlow/Laurel Hill/Kunama then to a picking shed on an orchard for lunch.
Vicki drove home so the gear box is well polished from her tripple clutching and the cobwebs were blown out of the engine when on the first down hill section she let it go with me pleading for her to cover the break! :coffee |
:D the look says "Ah I've finally managed to take his toy away so I'm gunna make the most of it" :rolleyes :giveup

Mountain man run
1 Attachment(s)
In January the GAMC have a run around the Batlow area. This year we traveled on Tumbarumba road, Lower Bago road, Wondalga road, Lochinvar Feeder road, Wombeys road, Willigobung road, Then around the Willigobung area stoping a fiew times to hear about the history of the area then back onto Batlow road and traveled to Lochinvar park near Laurel Hill for lunch. After lunch and some talk time we broke up and headed home. I went back to Batlow and refueled. It was a great day out and we traveled a bit over 100K's, I had to push the blitz pretty hard to stay in contact with the cars and I'm happy to say she ran well and only used 18L of petrol.
