Ron a quick blast over to bare metal then skim the pitting with filler compound then flat back and she will look as good as new :D

Ron Pier 25-03-10 15:08

Richard if you knew the amount of rusty and pitted metal I have dealt with over the years, you could be accused of teaching grandmother to suck eggs. For some reason at the time I felt I wanted to preserve the relic effect. I've changed my mind now I see it in a photo. I'll take it off soon and restore it properly  Ron

RichardT10829 25-03-10 15:24

Hahahaha hows those eggs :D I have done the same with my dash pannel it is pitted i could have made it look new but want people to know its original rather than repro so left it pitted.

Hi Ron
Thanks for the measurements great help i see now the thread is a stright bit with a nut and a coller part on it i thort it was a double endded nut to screw into the discharger and the gun part but looking at your photos its not, easyer to make few lol

My bracket is just about the same condition looks like its been in a box full of water for too many years i did think about making a new one but i like some original parts on her.

Ron Pier 26-03-10 14:01

Martyn. Just to be clear. The thread is actualy the gun barrel. Cut down and threaded. Ron

Who wants one?

Gents,

I see that eBay finally has heard your pleas for 4" tubes ...

See Stewart, I'm not sure such an item would be accepted by UK ebay? It took them a while to decide to accept a webbing holster I once sold. :giveup

MKII Carrier

For what its worth here below are two pictures of the 4 inch discharger bracket and the 2in. mortar mount. You can see that the 4in. mount has been pivoted down and is held by two bolts. The spare bolt is above the bracket. John.

4" inch smoke discharger

Hi

I would think that both were not attached at the same time. I have seen factory pictures of both mounts on... but I have not seen one picture of both of them (4 inch and 2 inch)being mounted a carrier at the same time. It would appear to me that the 2" inch mortar replaced the 4" inch smoke discharger. And the simple fact that during the transition of early armour production some MKII* carriers had both holes drill into their armour. I would love to see a picture of both on at the same time.

Cheers
Adam

Adam[/QUOTE I bought this carrier from a film hire company and what you see was in it. I should think that this carrier was still in its crate at the end of the war, the build date is Oct. 1944. John.

Adame 06-04-10 01:06

Its strange.

My Carrier is Febuary 1944, and does NOT have both. I have a 2" inch mortar in mine.

My carrier was released right after Korea in 1953, and has never been touched.

Cheers

I don"t know what you are implying with your capital letters "NOT. I have checked out the bolt holes on my carrier and they are countersunk on the outside and have the correct dome headed, countersunk, slot headed bolts. Being on the outside of the hull means that the bracket would be fitted on the inside and as far as I am concerned this was done in Fords factory in Canada and not done by anyone else. John.

Adame 06-04-10 21:00

There is NO implication

I simply mean my carrier doesn't have it? And my carrier is factory as well.

I wish a Ford designer was around to say why? Or even a memo.

Its one of those puzzles?

Cheers
Adam

Hi all, would be anyone so kind and measure for me the position of four holes for the smoke discharger on the side armour (Mk.II)? I need to drill them on my project.
Many thanks in advance!

Petr I just measured mine as accurately as I can and drawn the hole centres at actual size on an A4 sheet.

But if you have the bracket? You will only need the top left hole as a datum.

3 3/4" from the front corner of armour and 1/2" from to top. Ron

Petr Brezina 30-08-16 08:55

Excellent, thank you very much Ron!
No, I dont have bracket yet.

My armour with the holes is original, but I'd be inclined to drill the first hole and wait till you find a bracket before you drill the rest, otherwise you might be chasing them out with a rats tail file. Ron

Petr Brezina 30-08-16 10:08

Definitely true, Ron, but I think Im going to make replica of the bracket, so not an issue in this case. Thanks for support!

lssah2025 14-10-16 15:47

Petr, if you are going to make replica brackets, I would be interested in a few.

rob love 14-10-16 16:54

I believe Rod Shaver in Arizona had repro mark2 brackets made sometime in the past. Seems to me I recall seeing them on E-bay a bunch of years back. You may want to check with him.

Michael R. 14-10-16 17:20

The MK-II* bracket being different from the MK-I* bracket.

The UC-2 3" mortar carrier built on the mk-I* chassis did not have a 4" smoke discharger bracket.
Note: UC-2 is the 3" mortar carrier model designation for the 3" mortar carrier factory contract, built on the MK-I* hull.

Trivia ... Stitich counting ... Call it what you will. Incurable illness ...

lssah2025 14-10-16 17:23

I have a MK II* carrier needing the bracket, I have the other bits and bobs.
