Hi folks
As I said, progress has been slow but with over 25 crawlers time is short... I decided to keep it "As found" and do as little as possible to get it running. Distributor was totaly renovated, carburettor and fuelpump got a cleanup and a gasket set, new coil, new starter, all new oils and a battery: http://images.mydozers.com/#!album-40-0 Monday or tuesday I'll try to get it in gear :) /Erik |
When trying to engage a gear I noticed the clutch was stuck... Opened the mini inspection cover and hit what I saw with a hammer. Put it against a wall and pushed the starter button when gear and clutch was engaged, after a couple of attempts it broke loose. I disconnected the boogie steering and then I sat of out into the open. Brakes worked perfect without touching them. Easiest way to drive it is in low gear, sure is noisy.
Realy happy with it working so good. A little water leakage from on of the waterpumps, it may self heal. How fast can it go? /Erik |
How fast
I have my Carrier up to 35 MPH
Lots of fun |

Had about 40 out of mine

Show me the video indicating speed measured by GPS device
Sherman at over 40 miles per hour? I know Rebel is fast, but :giveup |
Looks like I have a trip to the shops coming up
|
Are there any negative consequences driving only with the rearaxel brakes?
Next in line is to get the boogie steering working. Must say everything is very hard to get to when repairing things on the UC. Really fun driving it. /Erik |

Yes, the fastest Sherman in Europe... show me the GPS speed measuring device. In MPH, not KPH.
It is a-mazing, regardless of top speed. Roy did an excellent job. To say nothing of the new tracks. Was that from J. Staman? |

375 hp and 1,000 ft pds torque conjoined twin 6-71's out of the box should do it.
I would like to be able to do that special tuning! IIRC those twins are on YouTube as well. Now to get that lightened MK-I* Universal Carrier of Cletracker tuned up to match Richie and the speed trials are on. Wilhelm K can pace them on his motorcycle. |
There should not be big problems with getting some more horses out of a carrier.
There are a lot hot rod parts that will do the trick |
Michael R. I´m on! Though, have to find a sponsor first. How do i tell it´s a MKI and not a MKII, thinkt is says Canada built on the Ford plate.

Rear brakes only...
The main issue would be driving at speed, and pulling a bit too quickly on the brakes and having the rear brakes grab. I have had the carrier suddenly start to spin at roundabouts! on smooth hotmix surfaces (Asphaltic concrete to some, Tarmacadam to others)
I find that using the displacement steering allows large radius turns in a higher gear to traverse a medium sized urban roundabout more smoothly. Changing down to a lower gear is not as effective, as the radius tends to be tighter. (Obviously doing a right angle turn at an intersection requires the lower gear). At slow speeds and on softer surfaces it should not be an issue. Rob |
