hi are these the modified straight wheels you have got these ones were fitted to our ford f60l monkeyface back in the late 40s/50s they done by some firm by gasaxeing the centre out then the flange off a spare half which was then welded on the out side to get the of set the reason why was avaiable 8 stud rims would only take 8.25s which apart from altering the gearing left a too small a footprint on the front our truck was used for tipper work and in sping with the body off and the log jinker on to cart into our mill we ran straight rims on the front after ballance problems bj

As mentioned by others, the only Australian assembled CMP to be fitted with duals as standard was the tipper. These are very common as the tipper was produced in large numbers later in the war.

Duals are also commonly found on the rear of 60L CMPs, and also non-tipper 60S CMPs, but these have all been fitted post war, possibly by disposals dealers in many cases, who offered them as an option. Many more may have been fitted new by tyre dealers over the years, as supplied for post war British trucks, eg. Morris, Bedford, etc., and others would have found their way directly off such vehicles. Consequently a wide variety of duals can be found on surviving CMPs, with 4, 5, 6, 8, or 10 cutouts in the wheel centre. I believe the original CMP tipper wheels had 6 cutouts, however it's not something I've studied exhaustively.

I've only come across one CMP with home made wheels, which I found almost as amusing as the various other mods on the truck.

Steering box mod

Do you think that steering box mount would pass a roadworthiness inspection?

No, you're quite right Keith, the steering box mount is old and split, it definitely needs a new piece of wood in there!

When you look at these mods you have to marvel how some people's minds work. I've done a couple of 400 steering box conversions myself, but it never occurred to me to try doing it without changing the spring hanger/steering box bracket! Mind you I have to admire the Flintstones bumper, which would be a helluva lot stronger than the original one.

Another example for the records.

Some time back on another thread I mentioned that we were to receive a number of CMP spares which duly arrived around last Christmas and this morning the original chassis and drive train was retrieved which turned out to be that of a C60S tipper so I thought they would be a worthy addition to this thread. rims

Back to the duels, have seen that mod on several low loader trailers. mostly house moving gear. cut the centre out of cmp rim use half into what ever old rim you had laying around.
