Hi Tony
I was told it served there due to the fact the army green had been painted over in portland stone. You could see parts that were still green under many of the panels but could easy see the stone colour on the outside of the truck. Now as i said this is all new to me so this could be quite wrong so im just going on advice from a chap i know, maybe someone painted it here but im not sure. Anyway to find out :confused A fellow from the Military Museum said the same thing and thought it was ex Middle East can anyone advise me if it did or not. Cheers Shane |
F60l
Hi Shane
Your truck has the roof hatch as fitted to Australian issue F60L cab 12s. It is extremely unlikely to have served anywhere other than Australia or perhaps New Guinea. Also the colour it was in when you got it is faded khaki, not portland stone - khaki fades to a very similar colour. The ones with Middle East service were a much smaller number of Chevrolet cab 12s which were issued there and brought back to Australia. If it didn't have a roof hatch that would be more likely to have had overseas service. Also the Supply/Mech contract number on your data plateS/M OR C/D 2037 is for Australian delivery. Quote:

Thanks for that Keith its good to know. Had my wisdom teeth pulled out yesterday and that didnt hurt as much as knowing she didnt serve over seas :whinge Never mind she wont be sent to the scrap dealer, i have given the old girl her name its..........Clementine. I named her after the wife of a Boar War prisoner. :no4:

Wisdom teeth
You'll have to keep an eye out for a Chev cab 12 now... and get some khaki

Paint Colour
Hi Shane- my research established the colour as Light Stone. I am restoring an F15 and will finish up with this colour. I obtain all my paint from Protec in the Port and they have all the formulas. The base paint is their engine enamel.

khaki was soooooo yesterday Keith. I do know what i think are 2 chev cab 12s not much left though (im going to pay for this) But i would rather drive around in a pink FORD than a Khaki Chev yes thats right people i have chosen a side and no its not the pain killers talking. :p

Hi Bob are you going to paint the motor the same colour as the cab? It was Hugh who put me onto this colour and i rekon it looks great, i hope to catch up soon mate maybe in 2 to 4 weeks ill bring the clan and a million questions if thats ok with you.

Radiators Mistery (to me)
Quote:
It was years ago that I removed the radiator from Jo's 13, but I am sure that the bottom hoses were OK for alignment in the 13, but not in my 12. :confused :confused Hmmm... I'll have to check! Shane, Sorry for hijacking this thread... but it will be good to have an answer! Cheers, H |

Well here are the fuel tanks, went to pick up lots of parts today and guess what they were not done :bang: Does anyone out there want to sell spare parts for a cab 12
Oh and Howard like your profile picture but i can only see one of your hands, now its either on Kates bum or its trying to steel my thread LOL Attachment 58033 Attachment 58034 Attachment 58035 |
Difference
H, the only difference between a cab 12 and cab 13 chassis are the brake and clutch pedals and the fact it has two front cab mounts. The radiator and engine mounts are identical.

You may have a carrier radiator, they turn up in CMPs sometimes. My cab 13 F60L from Ian Styles has acquired one at some stage. They have stepped down bottom outlets which result in a kinked bottom hose when fitted to CMPs, as seen in pic 1. You may not have noticed when removing it but you can't help but notice when trying to refit one! It's possible some commercial trucks had this type of bottom outlet too, however you can identify a carrier radiator by the union in the overflow pipe, as seen in pics 2 & 3. |

Radiator
Hi Shane - any resolution on my radiator?
Bob |
Hi Bob.
Yes mate if you think it will fit no worries :) I have just spent my last bit of cash on the brakes so it might take a little while to save up to pay you. Also Hugh said he is going to help me put the brakes on so there might be more money in parts there. You know the old story mate........ wife, 10 kids(only two), bills and of course the blitz truck, so if you can hang in there that would be great. However if you find a buyer by all means sell it(and i will hunt you down  :no4:) because i will understand and thats what people on the MLU forum are about.  |
Re. Radiator
Hi Shane - no worries, I will hang onto it for you. I think there was enough advice supporting the usage of this radiator.

Hello all.
Hoping that this is the door that will fit my cab 12 can anyone let me know :confused Hoping that someone out there has another if this door is correct. Not much to report on the truck (as far as photos go) but in the background the cab is almost done as is the motor. Have got new bolts for the truck and they are black in colour may even decide not to paint them as i think they would look good against the portlandstone. :sheep: :sheep: Attachment 58925 Attachment 58926 Attachment 58927 Attachment 58928 |

Cab 12 Door
I recently restored a passenger side door on my truck. If you go to the soft skin forum and search for the thread F60L recent pics you will see what I had to do.
A note -you can save the screws that hold the map pocket to the inside of the door, by heating them before removing them. I suggest you do this to save them you will not find replacements... You will also discover restoring the door and lock are two separate projects as is fitting the door to the vehicle. |
