Doing a nice job......
Really nice ground up resto.
What are you using on top of the POR the Tie coat or the self-hetch primer???? Cheers |
Thanks Bob
Im using the tie coat primer they sell. Today was a bit rushed and i thought I would try it while the POR was still tacky. Worked for the most part with just a bit of cracking effect. However it wont affect the final finish. |

I got the frame all painted and the brakes installed. However when I went to put the hubs back on I couldn't. The pads are too thick. I did a tiny bit of hand sanding and was able to get the drums on. This at least allowed me to out wheels on and roll/drag it back into the shop. Once I get a chance I'll be removing the drums and sanding down the brake shoes.

Finished more parts painting today. Painted the wheel rims and large body panels. I also managed to get the brake drums installed after dealing with some oversize brake shoes. I managed to sand them down with a palm sander. Up next will be installing the shock absorbers and small frame parts.

Dear all,
someone of you has the drawings in order to make a copy of the two tool box placed in both sides of the 10 cwt trailer? Thanks in advance for your kindness. Best Regardis Luigi |

Sorry Luigi.
I don't have any info on the tool box or document holder. Other then the pictures in the later manual. Hopefully someone else out there has the info and can share it. I'm currently trying to figure out the wiring diagram for the trailer. It appears to use three of the wires coming off the trailer plug. The red one is the ground. One is used for the brake light and another is used to power both the tail lights and convoy light. The brake light wire (black) seems to go directly to the brake light and also splits off to the trailer socket. The other lights are powered by a single wire (green) going to the toggle switch. It is an on/off/on switch. Power in goes to the common middle terminal. Power out to the convoy light (green) comes from the left switch terminal (as seen in diagram) and appears to only go to the convoy light. Power out to the tail lights (green) comes from the right switch terminal (as seen in diagram) and goes to both tail lights. There is also another wire (green) that goes direct to the trailer socket. Lastly it appears there is a ground wire (red) from the trailer socket to frame. Am I correct in reading that power for the convoy light goes no further then the trailer and doesn't go to the trailer socket? To me this doesn't make sense. What makes more sense is that the single wire (green) from the right side of switch to trailer socket should actually be coming from the common switch terminal and going to the trailer socket. This would would provide the power to the socket for the next trailer's convoy and tail lights. Any thoughts on this are welcome. |

All new brake lines have been made up and installed.

I have also been busy working on the electrical system for the tail, stop, and convoy lights. I decided while I'm at it to re-wire all of the CMP lights so that they each have brand new wiring. I have used as many of the original fittings as possible.

...and the answer is....????
Right in the text of the manual......
The trailer can ONLY be plugged in when towed by a 5CWT vehicle..... does it mean JEEP?? if it does, I would not expect a Jeep to pull more than one trailer at a time..... The para "Note".....Seems to indicate that the CMP did not have suitable trailer receptacle. However, what you say makes sense and it would not be the first time a manual was wrong in the wiring instructions. |
Wiring.....
I found some 1156 LED lights on Ebay at a $1.00 each that will fit easily in the steel tubes....both in red and white.

New floor is almost done construction. I also made all new hat channels to replace the rotten out ones.

Took advantage of the nice warm and slightly humid weather the other day and got my floor all painted in POR15 and the tie coat primer. Yesterday morning when i got home from nights, I painted on the KG#3.
One thing I realized that I shoudl have done when building the new floor was to bolt down the main supports to the chassis frame and then tack welded on the floor. What I found was that by not doing this a couple of the bolt holes were out a bit and wouldn't line up with the holes on the frame. Thankfully it was nothing that a slightly oversized drill bit couldn't fix. Live and learn for the next one. :teach: I anticipate by this afternoon I will have the trailer fully rebuilt. |

The description and the wiring diagram make it clear that power goes to the center terminal of the switch, and also leaves the center terminal to the trailer's receptacle so the next trailer can also have the choice of convoy or tail lights. Not sure how you read it any different. When I blow up the page, I can see the wire leaving from the center of the switch. |
Jordan, will we see this at Aquino?
|
Rob, when I actually sat down to wire it up it all clicked in my head. The wires for the two tail lights go direct to one side terminal of the switch. The convoy light goes direct to the other side terminal of the switch. Power in from the towing vehicle goes to the middle common terminal. A wire also goes from the middle terminal to the TL screw on the trailer socket. The black brake light wire goes direct to the BL screw on the socket. The single brake light on the trailer wires up to the BL screw.
Yes Barry the trailer will be at Aquino. I have something for you as well for your trailer. |
Jordan, I can't wait to see it. Looks like you have done a great job. :thup2:

Canadian 10 cwt trailers
Jordan, well done. :salute: I am looking forward to Aquino on Saturday and seeing your trailer's 1st public showing.
I hope someday (next year?) you and Barry will both have your trailers at the same event. It would make a great photo to have them in tandem behind an MB or 15 cwt. Brian |

I just realized i had not yet out up some pictures of the almost completed trailer. I still need to finish making a tarp and figuring out the tarp retaining straps mounted to the front panel.

The latest piece I just finished is the British T plate that was often seen on the rear of trailers. Since I've been unable to locate an original I figured why not make one.

Hi Jordan
I was finally able to crawl around behind my trailer to get the chassis VIN number but it wasn't there. :confused I extracted myself and went around the front and there it was on the left side of the tongue. According to Eric Booth's records this trailer was assembled in Italy. The second photo is of my load of POW cans. Thirty six cans fit perfectly. Barry |
Thanks for the photo Barry.
Thats interesting with how it fits the 2 gallon ones. I believe it also fits the larger 5 gallon Jerry can ones as well. |
Thirsty six......
Barry....
.....how many do you need before it becomes "hoarding"? Sure glad you are not restoring a CCKW!! Cheers |
Upon reflection......
Jordan
Did you make you T panel out of two separate sheet of metal to hold the red glass marbles..... ..... and what was you source for the red reflectors as well as dia. and thickness size...? |
T panel is made from single sheet. The red reflectors are simply glued on with 5min epoxy. Ill have at least one of the T plates at the OMVA swap meet in a couple of weeks.
|
Very nice work Jordan.
I have the exact same trailer. A very nice fellow from Vancouver, Robert Morrison sold it to me a couple of years ago. It is complete and closely modeled after original as far as i can tell from your drawings and pictures. You can email me your questions and i will take pictures and measurements. Robert M did a superb job. Good luck . |
Simplicity.....
Thanks for the tip Jordan.
Grant was trying reproduce them with the same two sheet of light steel...one being the backing the other being the raise T section done with a bead roller...... but most of the reflectors we found have a very thick cross section..... we were copying from an old rusted original that I have..... Hello Jordan,
Took a few pictures of my trailer today. The box measures 24'' high X 28 '' wide outside measure. Nice job you are doing again. |
Hello Robert,
I have also a 10 cwt Canadian trailer I'm going to restore; it is fairly complete but it misses the two ancillaries boxes: In your previous post the measures were: (The box measures 24'' high X 28 '' wide outside measure). Could you please provide also the lenght? Has your trailer also the other box (placed in the right rear side of the trailer)? In case affirmative, could you please provide the measures? Thanks in advance for your kindness and help :) Have a nice Weekend, Best Regards, Luigi |
Hi Luigi, i am away until mid October. When i return i will provide you with all the info you need . Cheers. Bob
