I know,I know.......

I didn't feel right about doing it at the time but once I was able to close the lid on the bin properly so it would snap shut, my guilt trip was over!
The only markings on the loader was in the picture provided. It was also cast in the handle and slider. No other government markings at all.
If you own a Mk II carrier then you will save a lot of money by not having to look and buy a loading tool as they were obsolete by then and reading this thread, late production Mk I carriers did away with the bin as well.

I too am a leg cutter. As you my guilt left once the lid closed properly.

Unbelievable...cutting up artifacts to suit stowage conditions. Wouldn't it have been easier to just buy the correct ones in the first place? Best you two both give me all your stuff so it can be preserved properly, in it's original condition.

But seriously, I can't count how many shovels etc we cut in the military so they would fit the pioneer racks. How many knives were cut in WW2 so they would fit the mess tins?

We have found a new species of Militaria collectors : Leg cutters LOL ! No joke, those little mag loaders are nice to have pieces of kit and complete very well a CES ( complete equipment schedule ) That being said , there is no room for it in the Bren box . I think that loader rates up there with puttees and whistles . Carry overs from another era into a modern, mechanized war .

The C/l\ marked police whistles are still in the QMs here in Shilo.

Hi Rob, remember me? When you can.

Hi Derk,

Mine has a broad arrow on top. Yours doesn't have that? Otherwise the markings are the same.

Cheers,

Robert Bergeron 30-08-17 23:46

Mark , you are a teaser.

A Broad Arrow mark no less !

But the question remains : Does it have legs ?

derk derin 31-08-17 06:15

Maybe.....

my markings were on the legs that I cut off?????
No other markings on mine other than the casting number.
Derk

Derk: Are you saying you threw the cut-off legs away? A true collector and packrat would save them for a future mag loading tool restoration.

derk derin 31-08-17 06:33

I tend to keep stuff like that but no,I threw them away so nobody would ever know I cut them off but now everybody knows!
Derk

Lynn Eades 31-08-17 07:40

Derk, now that you've boldly led the way, I can now cut mine off, throw them away, and join this elite group of leg cutters!
So much for preserving artifacts!
