Why do you think these are repainted?

Why are they repainted?

Because they are used take offs. I bought two. Disapointed that they are not like the ones in the photo, but still, I now have two mirrors I can paint my colour. And the glass is not too bad. Overall I'm happy with them. Where else could I have bought them?

mirrors

A couple of years ago when I was in Ontario I was out at Brian Asbury's. he told me that if I had a chance to obtain a pair of CMP mirrors that they were great mirrors to use, I bought some of these mirrors and I've made several trips with my C15A after putting them on and I must say they are far superior to the great big mirrors and convex mirror I had on previously. They work great.

mirror mount

Mirror on the right is from EBay (and yes its a repaint) while the mirror on the left is a NOS mirror from another source. Which mounting hardware is correct for a 1942 HUP?

chris vickery 01-09-05 00:04

I believe that the one on the right was originally intended to attach to the stem on a universal carrier.
I have asked this question myself as I have a HUP as well and I installed two ebay mirrors on it. I kept the little bracket in place as it aids in keeping tension on the mirror arm.
I have also seen ones like the one on the left whereby a piece of tube is substituted for the bracket to use on trucks.
Which way is correct? Does it really matter?

Harry Moon 01-09-05 02:57

The one on the right holds flags quite nicely.

Here's a pic showing how one of these mirrors was fitted to a CMP truck mirror arm ... boy, will this guy be in trouble when the MP's find out it isn't fitted correctly :D

Linked from Another Indian Pattern CMP?

Never thought of that Harry. Quite a neat idea.

Tony
A few months ago ,I wondered how many mirrors this guy had ,so I contacted him and asked if he could sell me a big order of mirrors I asked for 20 sets(40 Mirrors)..
He wrote back...No problem...
After I found out what I wanted to know,I gave him an offer and he turned it down ,..
If he had taken my super low price ,I would have taken them but I really just wanted to know how many he had..
So he has lots ...He smart to trickle them out...
If the buyers quit buying ,the price will come down..

He's been putting them up for a "buy it now" price of US $39.90 for several months now. Of course there are oldtimers who will tell you they bought them by the dozen for a fiver on flea markets, but that was a lifetime ago and this is really not a bad price for 2005. I only know of one other seller, he's in the UK and charges UKP 50 per mirror.

Hello all,

About 2 months ago, the Argentinian seller had 18 of these mirrors available in one auction at 39,90 US$ each.
None were sold at that time.

I have been following the mirror auctions and since then, 8 mirrors have been sold (I was lucky also), so there should be at least 10 left.

So there is still hope.

Marco

Rob,

Just in time for Christmas!

Canada GMC Jeep or Truck WWII Mirror Mirrors RARE Item number: 1700610

That guy in South America has dropped the price to 7 pounds. At that price even the CMP gang can pull out the wallet, dust off the moths, and splurge to get the wife ( or significant other ) something nice for the holidays.

Everything does come to those who wait.

Old joke: How was copper wire invented?
A: Two CMP collectors arguing over a penny.

I guess as long as the guys can use some patience now, they can have a nice item at a decent price. Wasn't that many years ago I was cutting glass out of brand new mirrors and fitting it to the old CMP frames. I guess were also lucky that the ferret collectors haven't caught on to the similarity of these mirrors to the ferret's original ones.

PS: Stewart; If you can get away with giving your wife a CMP mirror for Christmas, you should be selling ice cubes to Eskimos.

BTW, Merry Christmas all!!

Mirror update

A friend of mine bought some privately off this chap recently, and he let slip that he only has 200 left. Yes. 200. While stocks last, eh?
