Alby are a small French manufacturer of resin kits, not injection moulded plastic. I have done one or two conversions by them and they are good quality, if hard to find.

Great thread here hey? And welcome aboard Ponysoldier. You'll find this place loaded with knowledge, silliness, and awesome people.

BTW ... have you had Vegemite yet? Do you use it to stain your models? :D

Chev in 1/35 scale

Hi all,

I just wanted to say that Italeri sent me a polite email, thanking me for my suggestion that they produce a 1/35 scale CMP.

So at least they have acknowledged the request. They had the link for this web site, for a bit of background info, so we shall wait and see!

Larry Hayward 28-04-05 00:08

Surely some mistake?

Hi folks,

I have just spotted this new kit - but surely there's some mistake!!!

But never mind its the kit thats important!

Yours as ever

Larry

(still waiting for the 1/35 scale 3 ton GS)

Chev C8A HUP or HUW Conversion kits

Larry,
Just found this site in the UK.New conversion kits based on the Chevy 15 CWT Italeri kit:
Go to www.modelsforsale.com/catalog/allprods.php

Warning, the conversion kits are expensive(24 pounds)

:salute:

DaveCox 15-05-05 11:14

Larry, that kit was originally released by ESCI, and is far better than the ancient Airfix kit.
Garry, Models For Sale is a great dealer to do business with - I've been buying from them so long that I get a loyalty bonus!! Never had to wait more than a few days for anything to be delivered.

1/35 scale Chevrolet

Attn: Bill Murray

Bill have you had any feedback from any kit manufacturers on this subject since this thread started earlier in the year?

Larry

I would say the answer is no. Even if there was it would be a number of years before any of these come out. First they have to find a real vehicle if possible in original condition and measure it. Then make scale plans. Then make the dies and then make the kits.

What we all must remember is it is very expensive to produce these plastic kits and unless there is a demand for say 10000 kits (yes I said ten thousand) then the manufacturers will not do it.

Now having said that I must ask..."what is wrong with short run resin kits?"

This is a more likely way to get the kits you guys are asking for. More expensive, yes but a more logical way of getting these kits.

cheers
Cliff:salute:

PS> the pic is of a fully scratch built 1941 Ford (Aust) prime mover and #7 (Aust) 7 ton semi trailer. The drums are resin and the canvas cab roof and tarp in the trailer are real cloth

EDIT- I have only just found this thread as it is only a couple of months since I graduated to reading all the forums rather then just the softskin one.

Job Well Done

Cliff
If this is your creation, and it surely it looks like it.
It is one of the best Ive seen and Im not a soft skin
builder, keep on keepen on
Patrick

cliff 25-08-05 04:29

Yes Patrick my first full ground up scratchbuild. I am just rebuilding the trailer again as I had it on display at a gallery and they managed to drop it. Lucky the truck at least survived so I hope I can match the paint again.

Trucks and softskins are what I mainly do now although there is one or two armor subjects that are on their way.

Thanks for the kind comment

Cheers

FSM Most Wanted Kit survey

FineScale Mdeller is running a Most Wanted Kit survey over the next couple of months. The magazine has a pretty high profile in North America, and they can claim that an aircraft kit that appeared in a few of their previous surveys was released last year. Shall we try to stuff the ballot box and see if we can back some of the earlier efforts to get someone going on this? Is the Chevrolet C60L 3 ton GS in 1/35 Scale the horse we wish to bet on?

Access the survey here before 1 Oct.

1/35 Chev C60L 3 tonner

Well done Kevin for spotting the Fine Scale Modeller online survey. I've posted a request as you suggested for the C60L.

Lets hope other vote for the same!

Cheers

Trax have released a new addition to their die cast Chev Blitz Fire tanker, they now have a C60L. Although in 1/50 scale, some modellers might find this a neat candidate for a repaint.

Rear hubs

Shame they persisted with the repetition of the front hubs on the rear.

CMP 3 tonner

Cliff you have done a grand job on your 3 tonner, which I also spotted on the Softskin section.

I have read that the Tamiya CMP FAT that you used for the basis of the cab is more like 1/32 scale, which throws a lot of modellers attempts at a 12 cab out of shape.

Yours looks great!

Larry Hayward 14-11-09 02:12

1/35 scale CMP

After all these years there is still not 1/35th Scale Chev or Ford CMP 3 tonner - and yet you can buy endless versions of experimental German WW2 armour and even model the 'Wehrmacht of 1946'

And never likely to be one either Larry as it is NOT a glamour product like a tank is :D

Kuno 14-11-09 08:46

Thanks for the 'waking up' on a boring Saturday morning!

Larry Hayward 15-11-09 22:48

Cmp

If trucks are boring how come the Opel Blitz by Italeri in 1/35 gets to be issued as a 'standard production GS truck', a 'late cab' version, a 'radio body' version and a 'gas generator' kit - and yet they don't seem to have the sense to offer any other CMP version than the age old Chev CMP 15 cwt!

Larry you still don't get it do you........The Opel is cool because it is German and the only 1/35 German truck in plastic!!!!! Allied modellers have a choice....QL bedford, GMC-CCKW in several versions, the 15cwt CMP by Italeri, the LRDG Chev by Tamiya, Russian GAZ etc. Not many modellers want british/Commonwealth trucks as models. You need to sell 10's of 1000's of kits to get your money back and make a profit so most major plastic kit manufacturers will NOT do them as they probably would not sell enough. I predict if a 1941 Ford were to be done in plastic the first version would be the German Opel made one and not the Canadian/US one due to German stuff being cool. :(

Kuno 24-11-09 22:37

@ Cliff; Opel never built Fords - you mean Ford Koeln in Germany? And btw. since some months there is another truck on the market Zvezda brought a MB 4500 S. That's really something new (although not a CMP)....

Bill Murray 24-11-09 23:13

Cliff, you are slipping!!!!!

An Opel/Ford only really existed in a couple of the "Standard/Einheits" vehicles.

In any case, and as the Christmas Madness is once again upon my HobbyTown USA store, I have no time for research, but I think I saw a resin or a limited production kit out of Russia/Former Soviet Union of a C60 or similar and after the Madness subsides I will do some research.

Yes I did slip up didn't I :giveup

I was thinking of the Mercedes L3000 which Italeri also do in addition to the Opel Blitz in plastic and had also forgotten about. The Ford was the V3000S and while similar was a different vehicle to the 1941 MCP Ford the Allied Armies used. :thup2:

Alex van de Wetering 29-11-09 21:53

Soft skins are always behind when it comes to military vehicle modelling and therefore the choice of Softskin plastic kits is still limited.

But, the worst thing is that nowadays some manufacturers somehow choose to invest in a new kit of a subject that is already covered by other manufacturer. Some say this "competition" improves the quality of the kits, but in my experience it usually means that kits are rushed to the market, which results in mistakes and bad instructions.....all of this while other subjects are still not covered.

With the limited amount of soft skin kits you can still choose a GMC 353 from three different manufacturers or an Opel Blitz from two manufacturers.

Anyway, for those who are really waiting for CMP kits and don't mind if it's resin in stead of plastic......please be patient http://www.twenot-forums.nl/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Alex I know Italeri does the Opel Blitz in 1:35 but who is the other manufacturer who does it?

Cliff, it's the Japanese two-star giant, Tamiya. I think it was released about a year ago. The funny thing is that Tamiya used to (or maybe still does) sell a few of Italeri's offerings in a Tamiya box for the Japanese home-market; usually combined with a Tamiya jerrycan set. I believe they had the Italeri Steyr RSO, Opel Blitz and Staghound armoured car. But, than.....Tamiya came with an Opel Blitz of it's own, which is not an Italeri re-box, but a completely newly engineered kit.

Alex

cliff 30-11-09 06:46

Thanks Alex I knew Tamiya sold a few of the Italeri kits with their name on the box in Asia but had not realised they had made a whole new mould of the Opel Blitz. Knowing Tamiya I bet it is heaps better then the Italeri offering. :)

RWDiesel 04-03-10 09:39

Better than Italeri Offering?
