Nasty prang for the 1940 Ford 12 cwt GS Van. Was one of these 1940 Ford coupe utes for sale near Corowa in the 1990s, I went to look at it while at the Swim-in- it was rough but restorable , he was asking $1800 , he also had a 1 ton Ford ex-army truck. Next little town towards Albury on the NSW side of the river.

One day I will turn up with a posh caravan like that at a show and when everybody is moaning about it being non-original, I will flip out these photos. It is a Dutch truck to boot! |

Love this pic.
For those who don't know, the "Spirit of Progress" was an express train introduced by the Victorian Railways in the 1930's. With a streamlined locomotive and luxurious airconditioned carriages, it was the premier train in Australia at the time and promised a fast, glamorous and exciting future in all things travel. In the typical Australian fashion, any train that WAS NOT that, such as the local ancient branchline services, got the affectionate (or derogatory) name of the "Spirit of Protest". To see this truck chalked up as the Spirit of Protest, Old Faithful, and "Wind here, insert key" indicates a special love/hate relationship with the crew of this truck. |
