Richard, to answer that would take this thread off in an entirely new direction!
The tank is the brilliant work of film maker Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). It is a replica, but that description does not do it any justice. You can be 2 inches from this tank and not realise it's a fake. Stunning plus!! You have knock on it to realise it's made from plywood. It is based on a D6 Caterpillar and has a thin coating of epoxy shaped like the marks in cast armour and is painted up with mud, rust, grime and bare pockmarked bullet strikes to make look truly battle scarred and original. I'm going to have start another thread just to deal with the pics I have of this lovely beast, but what category? Armoured forum (It's not armour, it's plywood!), Restoration forum (It's built from new), WW2 equipment forum (It's not that!), Shows and Events (that's what it was made for, but it's not a show). Confused  ?

Bob,

I have it on fine Aussie authority that the Carrier DVD will be available in NTSC format, and I'm first in line! The Year of the Blitz thingy is unfortunately available over here as a VHS tape (North American formats are different that the rest of the world) and I happen to have a stock of them if you're so inclined. It's worth it - Keefy does good work.

Too many Tim Tams, Tony old sod. It'll be OK in the morning... have a good Canadian breakfast of eggs, bacon, French toast with maple syrup, washed down by a couple of cold ones. :D

Put it in the Armour Forum, it's a tank isn't it? :p

Thanks, Geoff and I can report the editing is well underway putting the Year of the Carrier DVD together.

As well as the Corowa event the program takes an in-depth look at the development and types of Carriers from LP1 to the prorotype LP3 in an interview with Mike Cecil, we also visit the Tank Museum at Puckapunyal to look at the tracked truck, 1 ton GS as well as their Lloyd carrier under restoration.
Other things of interest (I hope!) will be a segment on the Strickland Carrier which was a post war farmer's tractor version, and last but definitely not least a visit to Canada for a ride in Stuart Loy's Mk11 Star and some tips on how to drive over ice in minus 15!
The program will definitely be available in NTSC on DVD and I'm planning a director's commentary track and photograph gallery.
As mentioned elsewhere, the program is shot in widescreen and the sound is Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.:D

Keith Adams' carrier after throwing a track on a sideways bank.

How do you fix a problem like that in a position like that? Delicately!

Keith Webb 02-04-05 03:26

Delicate

There was about a 10 foot drop just off the right hand wheel of the AWD to make matters more delicate. It was a good rescue. I shot the process, showing how to use some of those tools carried on a carrier - some of them used with much vigour!

Bob Potter 02-04-05 23:38

OK, my credit card is willing but . . . .

What about that camouflage scheme? I think that's a neat pattern and my old Tamiya carriers might look good in it.

Let us know when that DVD hits the market. If I have to have it shipped from Australia, can you use beer as dunnage?

Geoff, I'll check the MLU shop page about your video cassette. I might as well get a red ensign as well.

Thanks for all and sundry.

Bob Potter:cheers:
