A kiwi made movie

called "Bad Blood" featured a C8AX. It is the story of Stanley Graham, who shot dead a number of police and citizens in 1941, as he wasn't too happy about having to hand over his rifles for the Home Guard. A major manhunt ended with his death some weeks later. Apparently Lord Hawhaw sent a message that Hitler would send a man to hold the North Island, while he held the South!

Rob
ps we saw the truck parked up in Greymouth in late 1984 as we recovered another C8AX

Hello Alan,
No "think" about it. It is definitely your F30 with yours truly behind the steering wheel, wearing a beret, battledress blouse, jeans and trainers! Happy Days (sigh). have you freed that engine yet?
Regards,
Rhett.

I think I mentioned this before - if you can tear your eyes off Tia Carrere for a second or two, a CMP appears as a "Chinese truck" in one or more episodes of Relic Hunter (filmed in TO, so someone must know whose it was). A good show for Land Rovers, too, and a Rover P5 car shows up in some as "generic Third World auto." Various deuces appear in other episodes, as well.

Rob Beale 13-03-07 06:40

The Diamonds of Jeru

has a CMP with a crane in the background in the opening scenes. It is set in South East Asia in the post WW2 period, starring Billy Zane.

I also spotted a Ford GTB in the "making of" feature on the Papillion DVD. It has a camera boom fitted on the rear.

There is brief shot of a CMP 13 pattern cab 3 tonner, on an airfield which appears in The Malta Story. The only other film I caught the tailend of the other night was called "Betrayed" This showed a Ford 15cwt GS parked near the side of a house being used by the British Army as a headquarters, and one of the cast ends up being shot, falls though a window and onto the top of the Ford.
Keith
PS,
I also have somewhere, a documentary on the Burma Road, which starts off showing CMP's lurching along this important supply road

Let me apologize for the quality of the pic , but you get the idea. This FAT appears in many shots in this kids baseball movie in Russia.

Restare Uniti

I recently co-Produced a short film called Restare Uniti (stick together) here in Western Australia. Featured in a pivotal scene is Tony Arrigo's restored Chevrolet C60L decked out as a Military Police transport for Italian Internees at the beginning of WW2.

The film has been nominated for two awards at the up-coming West Australian Screen Awards next month and is expected to see full feature length production in the next 1-2 years.

Cheers

Just watched this movie recently and was surprised to see a CMP in it. The LHD had me confused too and so I searched MLU thinking it may have been discussed in the past. According to wikipedia the movie was filmed in Thailand.

9th Div Cab 12 in Caunter scheme from the Czech movie Tobruk. Quite a long scene featuring the vehicle including from inside the cab with some nice gear whine.

Has that Tobruk movie been released?

Hi Tony

Has that Tobruk movie been released? And if so in what countries and under what title?

Those are great screen shots.

I notice that the truck in the top shot doesn't seem to have the expanded metal grill and in the last shot it does. Also the Ford in the last shot seems to have the expanded metal Chevy style instead of Ford crossed wire style, looking at period pictures it looks like these got swapped around or removed completely.

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,

It's a 2008 Czech movie and was released in the US in 2009. I saw it on TV here but it's available on DVD/Bluray from the UK:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tobruk-DV...item460e9730f8

I had another look at this 4 minute scene and I believe the grille is present throughout but the lighting angle in certain parts makes it look missing. As you say it's the expanded metal type, I've never understood why these appeared so commonly on Fords....?

In 1984 a movie was made mostly at Singleton army camp in Hunter Valley it was called The Cowra Breakout, there were two CMPs 13 cabs used in the movie among other vehicles. One of them was constantly used with the main actors, the other one wasn't as much,it was owned by my father which he also drove in the movie.

Me and our group were the extras for this movie. We spent a month in the desert in Tunisia. The CMP is out of the Czech Rokycany museum. Here is a report on our website (sorry in Czech only) http://www.rotanazdar.cz/index.php?o...id=100&lang=cs

Another HUP in the movies

1 Attachment(s)
Hi All

I have a list of movies I have spotted CMPs in but my biggest problem has been grabbing a still picture out of the movie.

Can you name this movie stared James Cagney, shot in the US and Canada in 1947?
Attachment 63249

It is listed on IMCDb incorrectly as a C15A anybody a member of that forum might want to correct it and tell them what CMP stands for. http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_328438-...-C15A-CMP.html

Don't worry about being held in suspense about the name of the movie I'll disclose it later if nobody hits it. No fair going to the movie link before guessing.

Only movie my HUP was in the entire 3 days of shooting ended up on the cutting room floor. Never been paid so much to be so bored.

Cheers Phil

I can't recall this movie Phil, but I've definitely heard the movie title "13 Rue Madeleine", so I'm guessing this is it, since that's the jpeg image title! Next time you might want to change the filename Phil. D'OH!!

Tony Wheeler 05-02-14 15:33

BTW I'm still waiting for an answer to the trivia question above: "From the doco series When Weather Changed History, I'll let you guess which episode..."

Phil Waterman 05-02-14 15:52

Yes - 13 Rue Madeleine

Hi Tony

Yup should have saved the picture under one of 5 other names this film was released as.

The HUP shows up a couple of times during the movie, strange how the movie people like to pick CMPs to represent Exotic Enemy vehicles. Or was it that CMPs were just so good that the orders were to capture them if the chance arose instead of just destroying.

But then again most movie types can't tell the difference between vehicles even when they are offered the correct vehicles.

Cheers Phil

Bob Carriere 05-02-14 16:31

Another side of this story....

Street scenes of the 13 rue de la Madeleine film were actually done in the lower OLD Quebec city which features very old style european construction, narrow streets. etc.

The reason I know....one of the extras "resistance fighter" was the Math teacher ("Mr. Adam") in High School. Always perceived as a Math Nerd....once the movie was shown at school he became Mr Cool. He appeared only briefly carrying a sten gun.

Small world !!!

Phil Waterman 05-02-14 20:02

No wonder it looked famliar

Hi Bob

No wonder something rang a bell as looking familiar when I saw that movie, as a kid we went to Quebec City and I spent many days just wandering around the old City.

Hi All

With all the Fury over the movie of the same name and vehicle accuracy thought it would be fun to post a couple movies that had CMPs in them but cast on the wrong side.

Looks like the back end of a steel bodied FWD SU-COE in the fourth picture.

Jon McGrath 29-10-14 17:16

To US audiences, CMP's probably looked unusual enough to be believable as being German.

I believe "Son of Lassie" was filmed around Victoria, BC. I have been told that my grandfather was in one of the groups of men working or walking - he was wounded at Vimy (5th Btn. CMR) and had a noticeable limp as a result. One day, I will have to watch the movie.
