Great pics of this very interesting carrier just goes to proove its all out there we just have to dig a little deeper than in the old days, It will be very interesting to follow the restoration progress please keep the pics coming its a great project,I will post the pics of my latest find fitted with the tank gear box,I will be back there next week the machine is mine now

Hi Tony
I'm sure you have worked it out by now, but the steering cam plate is attached to the "T" piece at the bottom of the steering column with, I would suggest, clevis pins. See Pics 9&12. BTW that is a good image you posted showing the almost identical system.

Hi all
Went visiting today and recorded progress. Hull, nearside offset.

As can be seen, the vehicle has been completely stripped with the owner fabricating a lot of steel componants.

A complete motor and gearbox has also been obtained.

This depicts the steering assembly. The arrowed linkages were improvised by the owner as there was nothing in existence to show how the cam plate was coupled to the steering rod. The linkages had to be bent in that manner to allow for the crank in the driver's footplate. Unfortunately the image posted by Tony of the Tracked Truck mechanisms were too low a resolution to capture any detail, if in fact that vehicle employed the same system.

First class work, Bob and in double quick time.

I noticed the position of the LH headlight. The first carriers had the LH headlight positioned where this one is, but apparently it partially blocked the view through the vision aperture and on the later models was moved to the right of the mudguard as shown in the attached pic. No idea when this happened or from what serial #s on but I guess continuous modifications were made during the production runs.

Left hand light placement
 

Technically, the placement of the left hand light, is dictated by the hull penetration for the conduit for the light.

i.e.

If the hole for the conduit is in the centre of the panel, guards with outside mounted lights should be fitted.

However, if the penetration is closer to the gunners slot rather than the centre, guards with inboard mounted lights should be fitted.

The only variation that I have found to this rule is where a guard with an inboard mounted light has been post production fitted and you will see a 90 degree elbow in the conduit to allow it to head toward the new position.
