42 Wlc
What a great picture .Note no windshield ,rearview mirror ,now if we could see the airfilter we could date them a little closer . Mine has the poison gass warrning paint painted on the lid of little box on the front fender George

I read some were lately that there were orders to remove said wind screen because of injurys happening to the riders. but as you can see by the later photos the wind screens are on some of the WLC's. i guess things havent changed much in the Canadian forces since the second world war, Canadian troops dont always lisen to the Brass Hats.
P.S George still waiting for those photos of your WLC. James |

Would love to have those two Harley Davidson's from the Barn Stored Collection, I wonder if they are all Origional?
James |
two Harley Davidsons James ? I hope you're not referring to that classic Norton in the background ? Those upstarts Harley and Davidson didn't start building motorcycles until as late as 1905 :)
|
Wasn't it 1903?

Whatever, they were a year later than James Lansdowne Norton ! :D Rich |
Yes, Time is really fun when you're flying....
BTW Does Norton still make Motorcycles? |
If you check the posting( Barn Stored Collection) you would see a photo also of what I am sure is another Harley Davidson . The photo is of a seat and by the lack of three buttons it has to be a WLC seat. I could be wrong it might just be a Indian seat!

Does anyone know where to carry the black out box on the 42WLC ? There is no holds in it to fasten it to the byce .George Mckenzie
|
George all the photos i have seen so far do not have the Black out box attached, and most of the time the Black out cover is attached to the head light. If i come across some thing stateing were the box was stored i will let you know.

A friend of mine who was a Provost during the second world war told me the Harleys he rode in Canada were all painted white. Here is a photo i found of two some were in Western canada.

White WLC
Just a comment , I would think the white Harleys were used for escort service of dignitaries only .I don't recall seeing any white Harleys . George
|
The link below is to a thread I had started in the past of some Cnd Motorcycle picutres I had in my collection. Two of the picutres are of Harley's. One of the pictures even has 3 Harleys painted white for escort duties.

Definitely post-war by the Pattern '49 Battledress jacket and the two rows of ribbons on the Provost's chest.

James |
First things first. I have a book on its way from China, Into the Maelstrom then I have two of the Weapons of War booklets to do (WWII Jeep and WWI Armoured Autocar) then I will try to get the Motorcycle Motorcycle book out in time for Christmas.

Postwar Provost
Plus it looks like he's wearing one of the Spalding fibreglass helmets from that era. "Tin Lids" has that information, I believe.
I also recall, probably from "Winged Wheel Patch" that were was a small number, 50 comes to mind, of larger displacement (80 ci, I think) WLCs that were used only in Canada for high-speed highway DR work to and from Ottawa and so on. Did any of these survive, I wonder? |
