Russ, it is equally as cool to receive a picture from the other side of the world and be able to reproduce something without guessing. It certainly makes fabrication more accurate considering I had little to no information about the gun ports.

Dont know if you have seen this, but some useful reference pictures. The Lucas 160 wing mirrors are still available over here in repro form - at an eye-watering price!

Hi Simon and thanks for the info and link. I have got my mirrors as they are available here in Australia as well and I think they were about $70aud off memory. I am having trouble finding the large spot light as they have a specific shape and I need to find the same if possible. I will post a picture with the hope that someone may know what type and brand of light it is.
Colin.

Does anyone recognize this type of light. This is the one that is on the turret of the Vickers and I just can't seem to find any reference as to its brand. I'm sure it would have been a common one of the day (1936) and my turrets just won't look right without the same or at the very least a similar style of light.
Colin.

Colin,
The Simms spotlights are still to be found in the UK. They were used on Matilda and armoured cars as well.

regards, Richard

Thanks Richard, would you have any links or specific code of the light that I can use to find a couple.

Colin,

Further to Richard's remark, I have seen a square style of searchlight on Vickers light tanks, too. So, and alternative may be the post-war light as currently offered in Tim Vibert, see http://milweb.net/classifieds/view_l...ad=91660&cat=8

That could give you a period looking light, at least until you find a better one?

HTH,
Hanno

Colin,
It is a Simms type 6AIB and the original army number was LV6MT3/SS/6AIB
you could try Mike Stallwood (RR Services) or Richard Banister

I have some of those Simms spot lights Colin, I'll dig them out and post some pics.

Adrian, fantastic and I will look forward to see the photos.
I am making good progress on the MG housing. The curved section was a heavy walled hydraulic cylinder with an almost correct dia but with some modification to make it look like the original part with rivets.

Thanks to the photos of measurements from Russ Gregg there is no guessing and they are coming together as good as I can make them. :thup2:

Colin, here they are. Both good condition with bulbs and good reflectors. The red one has a small dent in the reflector but only minor. It also had one half of the ball mount missing on the bottom but fairly easy to make for a man of your talents! Focusing knobs move ok too.

I have been working on the gun elevator and made a press tool to form the barrel protectors as they are quite thick.

I found an old 3"dia shaft to make the Besa barrel end and have almost finished one complete unit.

I just noticed the other photos are up side down and I have no idea why and don't know how to change them.

Chris Collins 04-05-18 23:27

If you're interested colin, i know some folk (as does Jack neville) who are very experienced in making gas fire simulators, who i'm sure would be able to make your machine guns sound and look very convincing, if you're interested that is...

cheers

Chris

colin jones 05-05-18 01:18

Hi Chris, already in the pipeline. I will make the replica guns and one of the RSA club members that comes out here will do the gas part. I'm sure you guys would know Brendon. Thanks for the offer.
Colin.

Chris Collins 05-05-18 23:37

Yes, I've even been to a Mt Crawford a few years back, a great group of people. Pleased you have it well in hand, would seem a shame not to be able to make appropriate noises!

Thank you Tim.
Chris, you are right, after this much work it just has to have some bangs as well :no4: :no4: :)
I have been quite busy making the smoke launcher brackets and I need some details of the launcher itself if anyone has one.

I wasn't going to put the turret on the tank yet but I needed to verify some clearances. I would surely love to know the last time this tank had a turret sitting on top. It would probably be over half a century ago.

super dave 08-05-18 07:49

WOW so cool, God that must weigh a lot with all of the steel components that you made for it.

Thankyou for your comments and yes I am very proud of my achievement. David, this one is Wombat and I guess I should be putting their names back on them now :)

Looking awesome, well done Colin.

I have a few of those internal bits we discussed. I also had some of these cable covers cast a little while ago, would you like any or can you source what you need?

colin jones 09-05-18 09:16
