I had started a separate thread looking for good clear pics of the gauges for the instrument panel. I do realize I have some inaccuracies in the building of this carrier but I can live with them. Thank you for all the comments.... Harold

the left outer linkage needs to go right across the hull to the gunners side then back to the rear corner where it meets the brake drum. there are some linkage shots on my new member thread.

Thank you Richard for pointing out the mistake on the linkage. I have corrected it now by checking out your pics. If you hadn't pointed that out to me I would have never noticed the error again thank you very much. Here are a couple pics of the corrected linkage.

looking good harold there is a further two linkages which go forward to the brake pedal and hand brake array but you wont see them with the front glacis plate etc on

Update:
Well work still continues on the carrier. In these next pics I have added rivits to the outside and inside of the front shield and installed the seat frames. They can be possitioned in either the up position or the lowered position. I put a couple figures in the carrier just to see how it looks with the seats in the upper position. The rivits are all indivudually made by rounding off the end of a section of plastic sprue then cutting the rounded portion off forming the head of the rivit. Took a few hours to make the 180 rivit heads I have made so far although not all have been used as of yet.

excelent ! there are two gunners handles which mount onto the gunners armour one for the right hand and one for the left, the left being roughly where his hand is now (where the armour meets the hull. i may have some Mk2 interior pics of a pals carrier if you wish i could either post them on here for you or email them to you ? i guess it depends on how far you want to go with the detail.

Are these the handles you are referring to in these two pics indicated by the white arrows? In one pic it looks like they have a rubber bicycle handle grip on it and the second pic there isn't a rubber grip, or could be it has come off the handle. Thank you for that bit of info.... Harold

Update:
The work continues and getting closer to completeing this carrier. Here are the latest pics as she stands right now. I've added the front fenders and the steps on the rear plate. I've added details to the engine compartment cover, and given it another coat of paint. I've painted the track a metalic grey and will be giving the track some washes.

will probably get slated off people for saying this but the track appears too tight on the real thing if you grab the track directly inline with the rear bogey axel there should be two inches of slack on the track (up and down) on a correctly tensioned set. however from the ones i have seen and in pictures of units during the war they had a wee bit more. its looking really good though Harold well done. do you think you will be able to fit the HL smoker and sound matrix in this ? also are you going to put fender skirts on or leave it open ?

No I won't be useing the HL electronics as the sound is of a Tiger tank not a ford flathead motor and as for the smoker I don't think they are very realistic as any motor that smoked that much is really due for a motor job.

hahahahahaha yeah your right......really noisy too those smoke units .

looking great ! the drivers ehxhaust heat sheild on the rear pannel (next to the box) should be mesh, and if that box on the back is the radio battery box, it would be mounted near the top of the rear armour in the middle, on the back of the box itself would be a tray to hold oil/petrol and on the back of that the number plate (if this is what the box is to reprisent, however if radio not fitted your good (she has no antenna's so i presume not :) ) looking fantastic mind good work !

I do appreciate all the help I can get and I didn't take your comments as an attack but words of wisdom to help me make this carrier even better. I still have alot of ork to go on it. One thing is all the rivits. One friend said if I leave the rivits off it could a welded carrier. I only have one reference book called Universal Carrier 1936-48 The 'Bren Gun Carrier' Story

i have that book too, but the ones you want are the carrier books vol1 and vol2 written by Nigel Watson, he has his own website and can deliver worldwide.

vol 1 is pretty much the intro of the carrier concept vol2 is later Mk carriers but has lots on the Mk2.

yes the half round things on the deck is what i refer to, one is solid as you have it and one is mesh, the one that is mesh is on the drivers side, the otherone was left solid (on Mk1's anyway) because the cam net / tarp and bag rested on top of it.

will post up reference shots from the mannual 2 secs.

Ok these refernce shots are from the carrier ops instructions book UC-F1 and are for Mk1 but it may assist you.

not sure what Mk you decided on in the end, but as the top armour does not yet have the round bar on the tops, you could make it a Mk1 which has had the later mods (like the wheel bracket on the front plate :) there is a picture in the carrier book you have of a pair outside a workshop in england being upgraded "before" and "after"

if you go onto my Mk1 restoration thread Kevin powles has put some excelent reference photo's on there, the one he has photo'd is a Mk1 setup for desert config (extra holders for water cans on the back) it has a Mk2 speedometer on. but shows some close-ups of the back end.

I was just thinking that myself! The tarp situation is such that it drapes near both exhausts on a MK2 I think your scale model has more of the makings of a Mk1? You could do with a copy of Nigels book, for detailed specification. Ron

Boy am I confused now. What is the main difference between the MkI and the MkII? I thought the MkI'a had the flat section on the front out to the end of the gunner's shield then it slopped down where the MkII slopped all the way up to the drivers shield. Did all carriers carry a radio? I want this mainly as a troop carrier armed with a bren gun

There really isn't that much physical difference between the two. You are probably confused with the T-16 which I think has a different slope on the front. The main differences is the top rail is round metal on the MK2 where the MK1 has wood strips. Also the MK1 has a fold down piece on the gunners front left where the MK2 doesn't. There are two large holes in the rear plate that you cannot see in behind the rear diff. And the exhaust guards that we talked about and that's about all that's visible from the outside. Also the headlight positioning is a little different. It seems like most have only one headlight but mine has two.
