Earth Moving Event

We just had a good tremor here in Ottawa - it started at 1342hrs and rattled the windows for about 20 seconds. No serious damage at home - lots of shelves to rearrange...I'll check the barn later today...

It was a 5.5 magnitude quake centered about 61 km north of Ottawa. We felt it here! My whole building was shaking for about 10 seconds, but no damage - really weird!

We had nothing in Whitby. The mounds of paper on my desk remained undisturbed.

Fish-Face aka Mussel-Man ..

Alex - yes, I will see you there on Saturday :drunk: - last stop before the east coast and the annual mussels and Moosehead hunt.

Bob Carriere - would you please add one more to the attendance list for Saturday - Wilf Alexander, a CMP wannabe owner will be coming with us - on the same meal plan as Barry and I are down for.

Cheers,

Brian

Bob, Rob,
Do you have the technology to show a VHS tape at the BBBBBBBBBBQ? If so I will bring along a tape I found of the 12 Manitoba Dragoons during WWII. It starts with the 1935 Armoured Car and the firing of its Vickers. There are tons of video footage of Staghounds (including the rocket-loaded Stag) and CMPs.

BBB4 Sitrep

Since I am at home, here's a sitrep on the BBQ. Things are going quite well in Hammond. Gilles and company have set up a complete military kitchen and served supper about an hour or so ago. The food was fantastic! Roast pork, salad, small potatoes, mushrooms and onions were on the menu. There will be no weight lost this weekend.

The boys (and a few girls) were setting up hootchies/tents/or unpacking their airstream trailers (yes, one set of hardy souls are really roughing it this weekend) as I was leaving. Most were into the beer and all were telling tall tales of conquests, restoration projects and things CMP.

Tomorrow, Gilles et cie, will be slinging the hash for breakfast just after sun up. Bob, a volunteer and I will be bringing three trucks to the big field in the first ever Hammond CMP Convoy. The three trucks will join the other mil vehs already parked there.

I will be camping out tomorrow night and will send a sitrep via mobile device if the time and beer permit.

Sorry! No photos (yet).

Geoff Winnington-Ball (RIP) 26-06-10 15:16

I was hoping I was going to get up there this afternoon, but right now it doesn't look like it's going to happen. If I can make it so, I shall ring BooBee's cell before I hit the road - otherwise, you guys have a great time, and take lots of pics! This definitely sounds like the event of the year (so far!)...

A big THANK YOU to Bob, Gilles and all for all the hard work to make this a great event. Bob sure had lots to do cutting grass and so on to prepare the site. Gilles and his family went all out to put on great meals. When Brian, Wilf and I arrived Saturday morning it was no problem to throw on bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes and toast. Just like that! You can see in the first photo the kitchen trailer. This was Saturday evening when Bob was BBQ'ing the steaks to perfection. Gilles wife had the baked potatoes, fried onions and mushrooms and two different salads. Notice Stewart casually working his way up the line. He started at the back. :D The second photo is the man with his barbeque and the piles of red meat waiting to be cooked.

Here we are loading up the buses for the tour to the world famous "Hammond Barn".
The first load getting ready is Rob Clarke, Mrs Tonner, Brian Gough and Mark Tonner.
The second load getting ready is the driver Gordon Yeo, (his best view), Charlie Fitton, the ever smiling Stewart Loy and old grumpy himself, Wilf Alexander.

A great weekend with an oppportunity to meet most of 'unindicted co-conspirators' of the MLU gang. Gilles' kitchen set-up was awesome, dicscussion centred on things 'Army green' and several breweries will see their bottom-line in the black.
Thnx to Boobie (and Rob).

This manure spreader was probably the most appropriate piece I saw. There were many new aquaintances made, stories told and deals done or to be finished. Clive graciously provided us with a sneak preview of his CMP book which is still a year away from publication.
Looks to be the new Bible for the CMP community. Unfortunately we didn't hang around the campfire very late and missed the fireworks. Brian and Wilf dropped me off at 1:30 am and they still each had an hour to go.
Cheers,
Barry

More Pictures Please

Sounds like another great event, sorry I could not come this year. How about posting more pictures?

Cheers Phil

Bob Carriere 28-06-10 01:46

Thanks everyone.....

A SUPER big thanks to Gilles, Carole his wife and there two sons plus Wilf.....

........ the army kitchen and the devote Chartrand clan made the weekend a success.

It would take me 5 pages to thank everyone for specific contributions/sharing ideas/helping, etc. I am very grateful for a wondeful weekedn and wish to thank you .....for taking the time to come over...eat, share guzzle a few brew....including those who intended to come but had family obligations or had to work. It would not be a party without all of you.

...and we made new friends with OD fellas from Montreal.... it has always been my goal to expend the OD fraternity to include more of our Quebec friends. The Blue Ball Xpress/convoy will be stopping over at the Barn for lunch on July 18th...... and I am sure we will meet more OD lovers.

I am sure more pictures will be posted...oddly enough with 3 cameras in the house I never got around to take any pictures.

Until next year....... thanks everyone!!!!

.....and we did miss people who live farther away like mike and the Ford boys,Wild Bill from the coast and Phil from the States. Preliminary plans are for a quick run down to New Hampshire at the end of July for Phil's show in Concord.

Thanks to all for putting on such a great BBQ. It was worth the drive up, even though im not "a professional driver" I still made some good time getting home.

It was also great to put some faces to a number of the MLU people.

Looking forward to next year already. My only recomendation would be to gas out the mosquitos. LOL
