Urgent help needed on handbrake installation
4 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys
I've been installing the rear brake the past week, and took me some puzzling and fitting but finally figured it out ...at least that's what I thought.. I can't get the handbrake to work... One of the reasons I think is the fact that the cable is to long to pull the lever.. However my question : what position should the lever have when in resting position ?? my opinion is that the lever is now to far to the left ??? What is the function of the little spring on the pushrod ?? Please your comments !!! much appreciated |
And finally got the seats made to it

Something doesn't look right

The second hole at the top of forward shoe doesn't show up in my manual. This could be the problem, will dig through my HUP photos and see can find something that might help. Looks like have new parking brake cables, are you getting full travel? Can you take a picture of the other end? Also did you adjust the service brakes fully and do they work? Keep up the progress reports enjoy watching your HUP project. Cheers Phil |
Here are some photos

Hi
The position of the parking brake attachment point to the forward shoe may be the problem take a look at these photos and see what you think. Attachment 81627 Attachment 81628 Attachment 81629 Attachment 81630 Picked the photos which are just after drum was removed, so I know that the parking brake was working as assembled. |

Phil This is strange my set-up is complete the same as yours so the the conclusion should be that I don't get enough travel on the cable I'll send some pics of my cable |
Will the link fit the other hole?
Hi
It looks to me that the link hole you are using is closer to the shoe face and a little lower which would reduce travel of the shoe. The adjustment for cable travel on my HUP is at other end where the shield for the cable attaches to the frame then also up at lever link going back to the cross bar. On my HUP I was able to reuse the original parking brake cables, all that needed to be replaced was springs that pull the cable back to disengage the parking brake when it is released. Cheers Phil |

I tackled the problem, indeed I used the other hole and it works fine now! |
The anatomy of a fuel sender

I was wondering how the fuel sender of my HUP would look like and how it functions, so I dismantled one to have a peek at the inside.
It all in all quite simple :) |

Pieter,
Its looking good, I remember when I was at that stage, and very frustrated. Who's making your seat covers? I have just got the canvas to make mine and the rest of the canvas bits. Jonathan |

I have them made by a guy here in Holland www.debeklederij.nl but I guess you can also have them made in the UK or by John and Mary Worthing |

Watch out for speeding tickets
Hi Peter
I had forgotten that you were putting a 261 in the HUP, that should fly. Definitely will cut down on the shifting. Though in Holland you shouldn't have lot of long hills to climb. Be careful starting up from standing stops, don't want to snap the rear axle shafts. I broke both rear axle shafts, one I got a replacement from from friends in Canada, one I had a new one made which is rated for 800 hp made by a company that builds axles for race cars. Thanks for the update on your project, great work. Cheers Phil |

We just had a short run, after 2 years the engine kicked in after the first start. I don't have the drivetrain installed yet so only a engine run :) Recently purchased a lot of parts including 2 sets of axle shafts, but also 2 engines with gearbox drivetrain axles lots of small parts. |

After a lot of trial and error I think I mastered the art of omega profile bending as used in the profiles needed for the roof of the HUP I use a heavy steel male and female mold laser cut after drawings I made Then ordered 2mm thick omega profile made on order thru the internet (great guys) and not expensive The profile in the pics was bend cold with a 2 ton garage press |

Some progress on reinforcing the HUP floor
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all
I have to admit that the progress on my HUP project is very slow at the moment and very frustrating at times, but anyway we found some time yesterday evening to finish the re-enforcement of the HUP floor. Only thing left is to give it a good coating seal all seams and give it a color, hopefully that will be finished in the next coming weeks so that I can mount the body back on the chassis. |
Some C8A in Belgium
5 Attachment(s)
Some of my vehicles to be restored
HUW 1943 in very good condition, just neet to remove the bedford engine by a 216 chevrolet engine, and rebuilding the back and roof too. Still has its square back door and side glass windows. HUP 1944 with a pityful body, but that's the side spare wheel model that I like the most and I hope to have time someday for restoring it. and a very rare HUA (ambulance) in very bad condition, but still has its data plates in plastic! Good to see you back on here, it's been a few years. Hope all is well with you. Still remember viewing your HUPs, you have a great collection there. Cheers, Hanno |
Well, I live now most of the time in Hong Kong and I am very nostalgic about when I had time to restore my CGT. Now, I only come back each time to Belgium only for a few days or weeks and have so many things to do than putting my hands on my vehicles. I keep gathering parts for "when I will have more time to spend on them".
