Photo 1/6 - rod to pedal has possibly been modified, it looks a bit odd as well as bent.

I won't be there Sunday, HM QE2 expects me to earn my paycheque once in a while. My loss, but perhaps you'll get a photo of our waitress to tempt Geoff back up to Ottawa, on the other hand he might realize he hasn't a chance and run off to Australia or other exotic locale (aren't there CMPs in Argentina for him to gather up?). |
Cheeky sod. I don't run anywhere anymore, I march. So there.
Photos always welcome, Robert, carry on, there's a good lad. :p . |

PS - glad to hear that someone works on the weekend out in your little slice of heaven. Those pilots surely appreciate the example you set. |
Weekend Update

Well I finally bit the bullet and bribed a few local guys to come over and lift the C15 box back onto the frame rails so it is really staring to look like a truck again.

The C15 engine needs the fuel line installed, and it will be time for seeing if the rebuild 'took'.
It looks like everything fit back from whence it came. Stewart |
Holy sh**......
She is looking good......
Time for 40 questions..... How much clearance between fan and rad......?? How many guys to lift the box....? how drunk?? Filters are totally unvisible..... did you modify the small sheet metal plate below the Gen.....? Have you got all the throttle linkage worked out...?? Please take some more pictures of both side of the engine before you start adding the skin.......PPPllleeezzze!!!! ....and photos of that custom fabricated exhaust pipe.....muffler and tail pipe..... What are you using to hold the rear cargo box..... J clamps or U bolts...... same for the tool box..... How many ??? questions do I have left??? Are you bringing it to CC 6...... will try to bring mine and maybe we can breed them..... or at least have fun watching them try!! Congrats....... nice job........ have to stop now my key board is all wet from drooling... Bo-slurp-ob |

I shall take some more snaps this week when I get a moment. There is between 1/2 and 3/4" between the radiator core and the fan. My old pix of the truck don't really show this, but I do recall skinning my knuckles when I tried to remove the fan in the old days with the rad in place, so I think that is unchanged. We had 6 men to lift the box - but could have done it with 4. All of the guys were 45 plus years old, and were bribed into the lift with lunch and beer. If I would have known that the job would be done in less than 3 minutes I would have not got the good Labatt's beer out for them. 2 of them were off to look for wild turkeys ( the season opens Wednesday ) and did not stay for lunch! I found that small plate that covers the generator - but cannot recall how it is supposed to fit near the new filter location. I hope that this will become obvious when the cab goes back on! A recent Convoy magazine ( can I mention them here? ) had a pattern for the later version of that cover, but mine is a very early version, and is quite different. The throttle linkage is CMP from the pedal ( soon to arrive from the Filling Staion ) to the cross over. The rod from the cross over to the pivot, and up to the carb is straight from the 261 parts pile. I needed to drill a cotter pin hole or two, but the rest just fell into place. I have not worked out where to put teh throttle return spring, but that should not be a huge issue. The exhaust pipe was quite well done by a local guy ( in stainless ) with a new round muffler slipping in quite nicely to the stock bracket on the frame. The C15 original tailpipe was long gone, so I an not sure exactly what the clamp on the tail end looks like. I bent up new U bolts and installed them thread side up under the box to keep it in place. This orientation makes the nuts a bit harder to get to, but is the way they did it in the factory if the old pictures are to be believed. I filled the radiator up yesterday evening but drained it out after noticing a drop of antifreeze at the end of one of the water pump bolts. I want to get that leak free before startup. Stewart |
Questions
Stewart,
Did you use a 2 inch pipe for exhaust? Do you have the part number for the muffler? What's your favourite colour? |
Playing Favourites
Rob,
I did use 2" pipe. I was fooled initially by the poor job that I got originally, so be sure to have the tube bent by somebody who knows how to flare the end ( rather than bell it ) so the exhaust donut gasket will work right. The 216s smaller diameter tube snuck around the crossmember, but mine goes beneath it with lots of clearance. I wish there was that much clearance at the fuel pump for getting the darn fittings tight! I will get the part number for the muffler tonight. I got the parts book from the helpful woman at the local industrial supply place. They list mufflers by diameter and length, rather than just automotive application. My favourite colours are the earth tones - as they tend to make me look slimer. Greens and browns set off my hazel eyes and naturally wavy golden locks and make me look more than a bit like a younger David Hasselhoff. Stewart |

I am looking forward to the photos of the throttle linkage. Keep up the great work (The Hammond Trio is envious...). |

The muffler is a US made "Merit" brand silencer, part number 709994. It is 6" diameter with 2 inch in/outlets spaced 180 degrees apart. The shell is about 18" long. Stewart |
Summer solstice 2007

Gents,
I was off today getting ready for the CC7 and I thought I should back the old army truck out of the garage and get a snap of it. I have not got the connection between the gas pedal and the throttle crossover finished yet, or I would have gone for a ride. I cannot say thanks enough to Gordon Yeo for his paint efforts on this restoration. The generator does not seem to be generating - does anybody in Ontario know of a shop that rebuilds 12 volt generators? Stewart |
12 volt generator
Stewart
The manuals for vehicles with generators give instructions of how to polarize the generator if it has been rebuilt or a new one instaled. Maybe that might be worth trying as a first attempt at getting the generator to charge. If you can't find a shop that works on generators there is a shop near here that does a lot of older tractor work and could do your generator. Gee Srewart you really do like to get head start, getting ready for CC7! Either that or we have to set up stakes to see you move. Let me know when your ready for the front clip to go on and I'll come help lift it on. Gord |
What's the rush.....
.... you got another 12 months.....
Not fair to make fun of him knowing he is off down South blowing things up...... Looking good..... almost as good as the fully rebuilt ones down in Australia..... BooBee |
Something screwee....
I got a notification from MLU dated 11-3-07 that Stew had posted something..... and they ain't nuttin' thar!!!!

Bob,
Here is the pix that I wanted to post. The cab of the old CMP went back on without a hitch. I guess that it is finally a truck again. Still a bunch of fiddling to do ... Stewart |
Very nice.
Im rather envious of how your truck has progressed compared to mine. |
Update 3 Years Later
1 Attachment(s)
For those that wonder what ever happens to things - here is an update nearly 3 years later.
The C15a has plates and insurance now, so I poured the lawn mowers gas into the tank and took a shake down run this afternoon. After 35 miles on my rebuilt speedometer ( thanks Bob from Down Under ) the temperature read just warm, and I had no leaks ( well 1 small leak from the T-case, but a can of stop-leak should remedy that ...). I need to figure out how to get turn signals onto the truck, as the other Sunday drivers on the backroad did not think anyone was driving the big truck slowly down the road, let alone know what turns I had planned. More pix later. Stewart :) . |
Stewart, good to hear she's on the road!
What about those size XL boots? Does it run fine on 20-inchers? Cheers, Hanno |
