I know not many people have this sort of equipment but you can either buy pre cut, band saw oxy, plasma and i would not suggest
a hacksaw unless your wife has nothing to do for a few hrs.

As for the gearbox. You do need to do a bit of modification . If you are starting with a standard box from a truck, you need to remove the top of the box and take out the reverse gate and throw away.
Next cut the gear stick down to desired length and do a bit of lathe work and cut a thread on top. If anyone needs correct measurements i am more than happy to assist. If worst comes to worst post it to me and i'll do it 4 u. The rest of the brackets are time consuming but as u can see, mine have turned out well and they work.
Good luck.
Colin.

And last but not least is the is the leaver itself. A bit of muckin around but with determination it can also be done. I made 2 at the same time as i'm about to do up another one.
Originally named Jigsaw from the previous owner but i think Humpty Dumpty is more fitting becaust all the kings horses and all the kings men couldn't put the poor old thing back together.
But i know i can. (ill give a sneak preview)
Colin.

It was in 3 pieces but i have started to superglue it together. I know i should do 1 project at a time and finish it. but we all know what its like. I just can't save the red ones for last.
THE END 4 TODAY.
regards to all
Colin.

Humpty Dumpty (Jigsaw)

Colin
B#@$^y brilliant and I see you mastered the image posting. I knew you would have success with Jigsaw as well and look forward to seeing it on my next visit.

BTW to all others, when you consider that Colin didn't know what a Carrier was prior to buying Experimental #3168 in April this year, he has come a long way. You are a worthy rival to "Rocket Ron".

Bob

I am amazed at your skills, and speed of progress

Keep up the good work :salute:

colin jones 27-08-07 11:22

Hi Bob, well i don't want to steel rocket rons thunder so i'm happy to be subserviant to the masters of carriers. But just maybe they might get things finished for corowa next year. By the way humpty dumpty is back on the wall again. He just needs some clothes. (quite a few in fact.)
Colin.

colin jones 27-08-07 11:30

Thanks Phoenix, All i can say is i'm doing the very best i can. These little machines need it as they to played a big part in what we all take for granted today which is our freedom. I think i do spend more time at the workshop than i do with my wife and children. But they understand what and why i'm doing it. (my wife does need more practice on her welding skills though)
Colin. :fry:

Ok, I might be a well versed aircraft spotter, but that looks like a De Haviland Drover without the middle engine. I really can't figure out what it is :confused :confused

Love the wheeled toys in the shed as well

ahh yes, I see the nose wheel now, it threw me because it is sitting on it's tail.

colin jones 06-09-07 09:31

Hi Col, you are right they are doves but they are both military versions called devons. Don't ask me why.

motor runs well

colin jones 07-09-07 23:01

This carrier has been undercover at the same place for 45 years,
it works well but needs a good strip down and repaint.
Hull number 2706.

colin jones 07-09-07 23:08

I also aquired a complete 25 pounder with firing pin intact and a jeep trailer with a perfect tub. For some reason i can't seem to load th images. I will try again later.

Recovery

Looks good enough to just drive it home! What a magnificent find.

Is it 2716? And would that make it a S.A.R. LP2A of 1943?

Outstanding!

colin jones 07-09-07 23:27

Well its good to know a south aussie carrier will still live in south aussie but in a much better home :kangaroo

colin jones 07-09-07 23:29

Sorry keith the hull number is 2706

Keith Webb 07-09-07 23:35
