Can someone elaborate on these markings? Jesse.

What is missing in ours, if it is even supposed to be there, is the floor plate around the pedals and steering levers. I have the seat frame but no seat.
Any detail pictures of this area would be great.

Pardon the question, but why would you want comparison pictures of a Yeramba? Although in concept the same - a 25-pdr mounted on an M3/M4 series chassis - it is a totally different vehicle.

The H on top (I think represents H battery) I don't know what the little H is
The next one is the symbol for 7th Armoured Div. (Desert Rats)
The next one 76 , that is the tactical marking for Field Regiment Royal Artillery (Red over Blue with white number)

Quote from Jesse Browning's thread.

I thought since you asked for the photos of the Yaramba they would be best in your Sexton thread. Also the word Yaramba means 'Spear throwing device' or words to that effect.

Thanks Easo for the additional Pics!

Hanno, the reason I was curious of the drivers compartment.

Unlike the majority of the Sexton 2's, the driving controls in ours are of an earlier design. The steering levers are different, the hand brake is on the transmission and the drivers seat is different.

Here is a link to a photo of ours:

http://seanfoto.com/sexton/h61b7c7a#h61b7c7a

It does appear now that the controls on the Yaramba are similar, yet still slightly different.

I was also interested in seeing the foot plate that covers the linkage.

Your Sexton drivers position is pure Ram, hardly surprising but I wonder how many were made that way before changing to 'Sherman style'. Yaramba was a conversion from existing Grant tanks.

Upon checking the parts list, it would seem only 340 were built with the Ram seat and 280 with the Ram steering.

All of which means yours had a WD number in the ranges:-

CS 204782 - CS 204821
S 233626 - S 233867

easo 06-02-11 23:45

Sorry I was meant to put that into Sexton 130 thread.

Easo

Jesse Browning 07-02-11 01:00

Easo; It was in the Sexton 130 (S 233631) thread yesterday. Someone must have moved it. Jesse.

easo 07-02-11 04:48

OK, no worries.

Correct. I try to keep related subjects together so often I merge and split threads to that effect.

Like Adrian explained, your Sexton has Ram driver controls and seat. Of course the M3 Medium and Ram are related, but I would not glean information from pictures of a modified M3 Medium (driver's position was changed from centre to the right side for the Yeramba conversion). Better ask for Ram interior pictures.

HI Jesse, these markings belong to the British Desert Rats. My Grandfather and Great Uncle's 23rd Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery, often releaved them in combat so the Germans wouldn't clue in that there were two different Regiments of Sextons. The 23rd and the Rats both had the 76 on their tanks. Which could have led to miss Identification in some old war footage.

We had a real nice event in Lockport Illinois. They gave us room to drive. I did not realize a 50,000 pound vehicle would drift on grass. Jesse.

Jesse

Where did you source the new tires for your road wheels?

Jesse Browning 24-03-14 18:22

They are original to the vehicle.

jdmcm 27-03-14 03:16

Wow, they were in great shape! Very cool project, you have really done a great job!

The Sexton looks great Jesse, love the news pics out in the snow. I shall pass them onto my Grandfather back home, I know he loves the fact that you put the Canadian Markings of his gun on yours. It has been sometime since being on this thread for me, the army life keeps one busy, so I thought I would stop in and say hello. I still wish to have a visit some year, I havent forgot, it would be a great honour to see your Sexton in person. Greetings from CFB Edmonton, Canada.

Looks like someone has been spending quality time with their Sexton! Great Job! Looks Nice! Did you acquire a live 25 pounder or is that a replica breach ring?

Allen Bryant

Jesse Browning 19-05-16 03:34

The breech ring was my winter project.

Jesse,

We had similar winter projects. I hope to have mine installed in the next couple of weeks.

Allen

Jesse Browning 19-05-16 21:48

Cool! Looks great! Are you using original parts? Mine is plate steel with 150 pounds of lead poured in it. The propane, oxygen fittings are hidden inside.

Half-Track Guy 20-05-16 14:51

The breach ring itself is made out of 2 inch thick plate steel that was welded together and then the outside contours were machined using a 3 axis computer driven mill as well as a standard mill. The block weighed in excess of 200 pounds before it was milled, but we did not weight it afterwards. Like yours the hardware for the propane cannon is hidden inside. The breach opening handle and the buffer are original pieces. I was fortunate that when I received my Sexton from SECO it had the original barrel that had been cut and also one complete set of breach ring parts and about 2/3rds of a second set along with two breach blocks. They were all neatly tucked inside the radio compartment.

Allen
