Lang,
A comparative term between the two CMP seats only ... ! Maybe I should have said 'grossly uncomfortable' to 'not quite grossly uncomfortable'!!? As a (former) Blitz owner/driver, I can vouch for just how bad the narrow seat really is, over any distance. No wonder the Australians invented the wide back seat. Mike C |

Just some more photos of how the old girl is getting along.
Attachment 64864 Attachment 64865 Attachment 64866 Attachment 64867 Attachment 64868 Ive talked to Keith W about the gearbox and the one in the photo is incorrect. (it was in my the truck when i got her). Would you lads think its worth hunting down an original or just stick with this one? It does not have the lever to put it in reverse, nor does it seem it ever had one im thinking it may be post war gear box. Also i was thinking of using fiber washers instead of the webbing between the panels to stop wear and rubbing would this be just as good or not worth doing. I was lucky to get some hard wood from a work mate who had it laying around in his shed and will be perfect for the truck, even better it cost nothing. The motor is taking forever but i will have to get a move on as i think it will not be long before im up to that stage of putting it in. Seat covers are being made in the next 4 weeks by the Swag Man and also a new windscreen is on its way. So plenty going on all at once and will post more pics when more of the items are ready, would really like feedback on the gearbox and the use of the fiber washers, many thanks Shane. :salute: |
And I see you are installing the 'Facility, Showering, DND Pattern, One Only, Driver for the use of' - this will be quite a unique restoration!! :thup2:

Gearbox
Looks all you need to change is the shift tower and lever, shouldn't be too hard to find one of those.
|
Wow!
Cab looks great Shane, as does the rest. Nice job on the booster too. They really do work well, the brakes... when they are set up properly.
Looking forward to more (Cant wait to see the cab on!) Well done mate :thup2: |
Cheers Tony.
Well mate seeing your truck face to face has me pumped to get this girl on the road. Also im using the photos i took under your truck to help me out with the booster so thanks again for all your help with answering all my questions at Corowa. The photos make my truck look all nice with clean lines however i have left many many dings, dents, holes and damaged panels as this is the look im after. I will regret this in the future when it rains hahaha.(might need you to find me an undercover space at the caravan park next year if shes ready) Well Keith do you have one of those shift towers and lever laying around or am i better begging Andrew for the one in his truck he is selling. Also how is the video of Corowa coming along? Any chance you could put a bit up on youtube just for a little taste. Oh by the way lads i need 8 exhaust valves any idea who may have some? With these in my hands the motor will be done in a week or so. Cheers Shane :salute: :salute:  |

Cheers Andrew great photos mate keep them coming. I have been sent some great items by a young bloke who has helped me out in a big way. I cant thank him enough for his time and advice not to mention parting with rare items needed for my resto. :note: :note: :note: :note:
Attachment 65620 Attachment 65621 Attachment 65622 I have also been given a shift tower and lever by Colin so a big thanks to him. (mate am going to need your help with the spare wheel carrier in the future) Attachment 65623 Spent eight hours straight on the gearbox today and the shift tower. All went well cleaned the inside, wire brush work that went on forever and then a lick of paint. I know it should not be black but its a good contrast to the sand colour and makes it more defined. After filling with oil the rear seal sprung a leak so not quite done will have to source one asap. Attachment 65624 |

Hi all.
Another day spent on my cab 12. Got a bit done here and there, got the seats done and gave the compressor a good clean out. I couldn't work out how the oil would get from the gear box to the con rod sump, due to the fact there was so much crap built up inside. However after a while i found it... :sheep: Attachment 65720 Seats came out pretty good i think. And yes i couldn't help myself and sat right down, thought they were the most uncomfortable seats ever made. :ergh: Never mind if it was good enough for the Australian Army its bloody well good enough for me. Attachment 65717 Attachment 65718 Sent Keith a very poor picture during the week asking if this is the correct fire extinguisher that was used in CMPS. So in these photos i have added two measurements, this will help overseas members and of course us Australians. Attachment 65722 Attachment 65723 |
Bravo
Well done Shane - keep at it
You will be suprised with the seats - they are actually pretty good to sit and drive in. |
Cheers Tony
Thanks for the feedback mate. When are you going to put up more photos of your girl on MLU. :thup2: :thup2: :drunk: |

Went to my (when i say mine im only a member there) military museum and thought people on the forum would like to see what is in the collection. The land and buildings of the museum are up for sale and we have been given the first opportunity to purchace. However with only one hundred members its hard to come up with a few hundred thousand dollars, so if anyone out there can make a donation or know of persons who can help give me a yell. Attachment 65866 Attachment 65867 Attachment 65868 The last picture is Bob Moseley's truck and is for sale. I think the asking price is $8000 but don't hold me to that, can find out if someone wants. There are many other vehicles and great items at the Military Vehicle Preservation Society in South Australia so go check it out, there is an open day next weekend to raise money for Angel Flight ill be on the gate so come say g'day. :salute: |
Nice pics Shane, an excellent collection of vehicles. That's a very good price for Bob's truck too if it is correct.

A photo of another to do project at the museum. Attachment 65876 Attachment 65877 Does anyone know what this shell was used in? Attachment 65878 Attachment 65879 Also found this in a box of bits that came with the cab 12, any ideaa if it belongs on the truck :confused Attachment 65880 Cheers Shane |
I think its a 5-inch 54 calibre: the armament on the Perth Class Guided Missile Destroyers (US Charles F Adams Class, modified for Australia). HMAS Perth, Brisbane and Hobart. Now all retired and disposed of as dive reefs.
It's a Naval round only. The turret system is automatic - push the firing trigger down in the Gun Plot room and it just keeps banging away until the magazine guys cry 'enough' and stop feeding it or the finger is taken off the trigger. It's a joy to watch the turret mechanicals up close. The last is a throttle or choke knob for a Ford SV V8 - standard on many pre-war and wartime Ford trucks and lorries, including your cab 12. Should have 'T' or 'C' engraved/stamped into the face of the knob. Mike C |
Instrument cluster decals
2 Attachment(s)
In reply to your enquiry, the instrument decals are available from macsauto.
Attachment 65926 Attachment 65927 The first photo shows the speedometer decal. Macs sells that one individually, so you would need to spring for another $9.95 to buy the set as in second photo. The speedo decal in that set is not what you want (unless cab 12 is different to mine). Search macsauto under Pickup 32-47, and look under Interior Parts and Trim. Highly recommend you have a signwriter or window tint guy apply them professionally. You wont get any bubbles out if not 100% application first go. I did signwriting years ago, so no prob for me. Would have replied via PM, but couldn't attach the two photos that way. Your timing is not good. Two days ago I ordered a few hundred dollars worth of parts from macs. Could have included the decals with that order, and saved you a crippling shipping cost. Suggest you find some other parts you will want in future, to make it worth your while. |
Thanks Tony for the quick feedback. I will have to check if this was the same as mine or not. I guess im about to find out how costly freight is. Cheers again mate very kind of you.
Mike C thanks mate i have been offered the shell at $125 but think i will put funds towards the Cab 12 instead. Can buy on behalf of other people if there is a want for it, in fact he has two. |
a trick to applying decals...
to apply these decals I have been informed and used to great success, Windex glass cleaner.
Prepare the gauge face so that it is clean (as if for painting), spray liberally with Windex window/glass cleaner, peel backing off decal and apply decal. With the Windex on the gauge face you can move the decal into the correct position, move air bubbles out and when happy with position, allow the Windex to evaporate away leaving the decal firmly in place. I have done my Ford gauges this way and am happy with the results. |
Getting chased by a tank.
Thanks Darrin great tip which i will use for sure :salute:
On another matter a great day at the museum volunteering to look after the kids and adults in the WW2 Universal Carrier.(I have the all important orange vest on) Cant wait to get my project done so she can go along side all these great military Vehicles. Money on the day was raised for Angel Flight, so it was for a good cause. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PreOnLozkkM#t=31 Lads im also after a fuel and temp gauge for the cab 12 if anyone has them laying around. New decals are on the way fro Macs auto, i will not be to worried if the gauges dont work as i will have modern gauges in the truck. The only original working part of the cluster will be the speedo so please get in touch thanks lads  :drunk: |

Hello All.
Well i have decided to number my truck on the following photo's. Has anyone got any information on this truck and its service during the war? The plate left of the truck is No 7 ( my family's lucky number) which is why im going with it and D114 is also going on the cab 12. Attachment 66670 Attachment 66671 Motor is only a few days away from being put back in, hope it will be this wednesday see how we go. Attachment 66672 Attachment 66673 |
Looking good
The '7' on a round yellow plate was the weight of the loaded vehicle, known as a Bridge plate.
Engine looks good! |
Good stuff
Please please please, film the start up won't you Shane. :thup2: :thup2:
Donk looks terrific and they sound great without the muffler.. :D |
Tony, mate i will do. Please understand how much your videos fired me up to do this project ive watched your videos over and over and rekon its time you put a new video up. Lets face it over the whole internet how much footage is there on Cab 12s.... bugger all . It would be great to see your truck driving around as she is now, give us all a few minutes at least on your project and footage of the truck all over on what you have done. :salute: :salute:

Actually...
One Mr Keith Webb did a quick shoot of a general update with the truck at Corowa this year...
Is there any chance of seeing that on here Keith? If you have some spare time? :yappy: |

Unit sign indicates Water Carrying Coy: 157 on Red Green diagonal background. Interestingly the placement of digits and diagonal appears to accommodate lower white band indicating Corps Troops, but the band itself is not present. Perhaps it was overpainted upon transfer to a Divisional unit. The white band system was abolished in June '44 instructions. Attachment 66691 Attachment 66693 |
Thanks for the feed back lads. Great information Tony not sure what unit i will go with.
As for today and putting the V8 in.. well all i can say the older you get the more you get used to people letting down. On the upside went to see Colin Jones which is always a pleasure to visit his home and having a chat. |
Spare time?
Hi Tony
Spare time? What's that? I haven't even been able to start editing the Corowa video for this year yet! :giveup Quote:
