Unfortunately there does not appear to be any other 1/2 track components here, the diff it now seems came with a lot of carrier & truck parts purchased sometime from a military disposal lot. We will keep digging for Bob but at this stage I suspect the only parts to be found were the diff.......:-(

Tracked Truck

Rob,

When you say that "I don't believe it's a tracked truck diff, the plate looks well made & machined, not a farmer throw together.", I think we may be getting our wires crossed. I think Tony Smith means the "Truck, Tracked, 1 ton, GS", which is a throwback from the Carrier development project.

When you said that there once was a Blitz with wierd brackets on the chassis that's what made us all sit up and take notice.

I am now tending to believe that it might be the correct sprockets...but tend not to think that they are the sprockets for the "Tracked truck"

Photo with thanks to Keefy.

......BUT

Notice that the rear dif is Chev ( ) not Ford ( :D ) and the sprockets are quite different to your discovery.

Halftrack was a C60S base

This has been recently confirmed:

ARN 74150
Chevrolet
Cab 13
C60S
Engine number PR3874314
Experimental half track

No chassis no. noted.

Truck Confirmation

Thanks Keefy - I received that information from the Mike and I appreciate how easy it was with Tony's AWM reference number and the research by an AWM member. Now to find a C60S truck.

Rob's Rear Axle Assembly

Hi all
Sitting down with Pedr and the MB-F1 manual the other day we have come to the conclusion that Rob's assembly is Ford. Furthermore I am now of the opinion that this assembly was the one utilised on the Chevrolet half-track. In any event that is what I am going to incorporate into Phoenix. As for the flange, possibly it was changed to accommodate the flange on the Chevrolet drive shaft combined with the fact that a universal joint would not have been required given that everything at the rear would be rigid instead of being flexible due to the rear springs.

Again with Pedr's assistance, I have also been able to interpret a high resolution image and have determined the probable design of the sub-frame assembly holding the double and single track bogies.

Looking a that photo I wonder if anyone has ever done a childrens book idea with a vehicle like that as the main character (and if not, why not? ... and not all parents read PC books to their kids ... especially not military types :D ? ) :smoker: :smoker: :smoker: :smoker: :smoker:

Seriously thugh, those vehicles have SO much endearin charming character and personality you'd swear they were living creatures!

Holy smokin' Bullship Batman!....surely there's got to be a better one around than that one. ( obviously at rust hill near Gawler )

Perhaps he'd swap it for a Hilux ute.....nice aluminium tray with drop sides, one owner since new, washed once a week with soft water, serviced regularly, never driven on beaches, Queensland registration, only one smallish accident.

Coat of paint, new muffler, the turkeys will never know the difference. :p

cliff 03-04-07 07:51

Bob look again one of the plates holding the tracks/bogies on will cover that and strengthen it. Not as if you need to roadworthy it at the end is it? or isn't it?

Cheers
Cliff :)

BTW the disc of pics arrived, thank you, and I should have no probs with the model once I get the bren carrier parts.

Phoenix Model

Hi Cliff
Whilst I am still trying to source the Chev C60S, how is your model building of it going. Did you receive a model kit yet?

Bob I have all the parts now except for the Bren gun carrier bogies and track.

Once I have more of the #9 FGT model done I will start construction of the chassis and cab as far as I can until I can source these 1/35 scale carrier parts.

Once I get moving the model will be fairly easy to make as 75% of it is readily availiable plastic parts.

News?

This thread has gone quiet...
Any updates, Bob?

Update

Hi Howard
Things are moving on quietly, I'm just restoring a large Hino truck that I need to transport Phoenix. This should be completed within a couple of weeks, then a big field trip with the results posted thereafter.
Bob

cliff 31-08-07 11:05

I will start the model soon but still have not got any bren gun carrier kit bogies or track to complete it.

Bob Moseley (RIP) 01-09-07 12:27

Carrier Kit

Hi Cliff
Perhaps we should remind Les Freathy that he was going to send you parts back in February. Alternately the kits seem to come up on Ebay quite often. What scale do you need?
Bob

cliff 01-09-07 21:36

Scale is

1/35 scale Bob. Any of the different Tamiya kits will do. Hobby HQ in Melbourne often has these kits cheaper then anyone so perhaps Keith could pick one up from there for us. :D

Our efficient Border Patrol detected this felon RED-HANDED as he made a dash for the border with this C60S which of course rightfully belongs in Victoria where it probably has resided for over 60 years.

Can you guess who it might be?

Accomplice name is believed to be named ADA.

You can see the criminal eyes and dangerous grin behind the mask. Authorities in Nhill have been notified and a large dragnet put into play in all border crossings.

As you can see in the picture, this is a jewel heist too.

Suspect is believed to try to cross the border sometime on October 1st.

Plushy 30-09-07 17:00

Glad to see he was apprehended with the goods , I attempted a interception on saturday but unfortunately as he didnt have any goods on board i couldn`t deport him back to the Border . How ever he will be closely monitored between Ballarat and the border to make sure he doesnt `lift/borrow` any more goods on his trip home . :no4:

Rob Dyba 01-10-07 01:17

Suppose I had better get some measurments up for you for the plates to mount sprockets to brake drums Bob, before you are forced to dispatch your Ninja's....

Rob
