O and don't worry I will go on with this thread because i'm not done yet. lots off interrior things to do. but frist some small holyday to get the battery on full power again. (thailand) cheers jaap. |
Congrats Jaap!!!
I love to hear more about your experiences with getting the truck registered as I will have to go through the same procedure in the future and the rumours of new Dutch rules scare me... Keep up the good work! Alex |
Jaap,
Congrats on getting her to the running & registered phase! That will give you a much needed reward to finish off the details. Regards, Hanno |

first of all best wisches to everybody and a good 2011. :thup2:
now I am back from holyday it's time for some more work on the truck. to start I begin with the table that comes to the outside of the body. the table was complete but rusted so this took some work after this I had to meassure for the right place were the table had to come. it took some fiddling to get the table to work right and not get stuck when it is folded up. the next thing to do are the airvents on the roof, but this next time. :D cheers jaap :drunk: |

air vent...
5 Attachment(s)
thanks dirk and yes the table is strong enough for a couple dozen pints of beer so very handy this table :D
I started on the air vents that sit on the roof there are 4 of them, 3 the same size and one big one for the generator. I have 2 small ones (one bad) and the big vent with some dents in it. so I had to make some new ones. the first thing was to make a new bottom for all 3 small vents. then 2 new vent body's because one was to bad to fix. I used the old one as a example for the others. when I cut the sheet metal I had to watch to cut it right then I could bent it into shape. It needs only a little bit of welding. there is also a rond piece of tubbing that fits in the roof. the bottom plate goes on the roof and then the body goes over it and is screwed together to the roof. I will do this later when I have more time. (see more pictures in the next thread reply) cheers jaap |

more vent work. In the vents back part there is a sort of grill and I had to make 2 new ones so I cut enough strips of sheed metal and bent these ad a little curve and welded them together.
then welded them in the back space of the vent body's and they fit yes  the inside I painted with textiel, because the rain water falls in it and drains ad the frontside so the inside is very well protected (I hope). cheers jaap  |

here are some more pictures of the vents.
the large vent neaded to be dented out at some placeses and the inside was cleaned of rust. now the 4 vents are ready to be painted and screwed on to the roof of the radiobody. cheers jaap |
some other small items...
5 Attachment(s)
I started on a small vent / outlet cab that comes on the front side of the radiobody. as you can see on the first picture it was in a bad state, so I slowly took it apart and replaced the middel part and welded it inplace.
after the thing was painted it took it's place next to the small window on the front of the body. I also started to make the mount for the 19 set's antenna that will be placed in the middel of the front part of the roof edge. and I have to make a mount for the 19 set "B" antenna to, I am looking for the antenna itself so if some one nows one (for not to much money) tell me please. :note: cheers jaap |
antenna mount...
5 Attachment(s)
Hi guy's here are some pictures of the 19 set antenna mount that made.
I bent some sheet metal to size and drilled some wholes on the right place, made a wooden spacer to be placed under the antenna. it was screwed on the roof above the window. this mount will fit the 19 set F antenna. now I am looking for a "B" antenna to mount next to this one. cheers jaap |

here are some more pictures of the vent openings on the roof, they are in place now only need some paint when it is not so cold.
after this I started to make new windowframes because the old ones where not there so after some long thought I came up with a plan to make them. first i cut 10 strips of sheetmetal 4 inch wide and 1 meter long. I have to do 3 windows. they have to be bend in a "h" shape so, step 1: I bend the long side of the h dubble for a strong part of the frame. because the screws are going through this part. step 2: now you can bend the "U" part of the frame where the glass comes in. to stay on the right size I used a square piece of pipe in the right size to hammer the sheet metal around. I used some hardwood parts to klemp the sheetmetal in between so the bends are getting right and not bumpy. it takes a lot of time to make but if you can't buy you have to make it your self. in this frame I put a rubberseal and the glass fits in this rubberseal. (see the pictures in the next thread to) cheers jaap |

more window work...
5 Attachment(s)
hi guys, now I have done the framestrips it is time to make the windows so I cut the whole in the side of the radiobody.
I cut it a littlebit smaller than the woodframe so I can bend the sheetmetal around the wood for a nice fit. than it was time to cut the strips to size at a angle off 45 degree to make the frame nice and square. the strips are screwed to the body. in the framestrips I placed a rubber strip where the glass fits in, so it can slide in it to (one window). the glass I had with the body was still in it's old paper and the metal sides where bad so they where replaced and glued to the glass. se the next thread to. cheers jaap :drunk: |
window glass...
4 Attachment(s)
her are the pictures of the glass and the metal strips I replaced.
the glass took some time to clean them up. the strips were bend and glued to the glass just like the old ones were. this hardend glass brakes easy I know I broke one, but I am lucky to have some spare. I did the near side so it is time for the offside now, but that the next time... cheers jaap |
5 Attachment(s)
here are some pictures of the offside of the radiobody window and the rear window, only I have to order the glass for this so this will take some time before I can finish this one. in the meantime I started to restore the blackout boxes for the small front window and the antenna outlet.
these are there to prevent light to shine to the outside of the body when working at night. there are 3 shutters for the side and back windows to. but that is for a other time. so for now cheers jaap :D |
more blackout boxes...

back again...

thanks very much guy's for getting the website in the air again. I was affraid that the site was gone, but thanks to these guy's it is back, thanks again.
so now I can go on with my thread. I bought a wireless insulator outlet No 12 for the "A" aerial for my radiobody. it is buildup of a 2 piece hard material and 2 glass cups with a treaded bar for the attachment of the wires and long bolds to attach it trough the wall of the body. it was put in place and on the outside sealed with kitt. the next job I started on now is the insulation of the inside of the body itself. but that is something for the next time.... cheers jaap |
some insullation work...
3 Attachment(s)
hi guy's as promised I have some pictures of the insullation of the inside of the radiobody.
i used glasswool panels you can buy in our do it your self shops, this works well. I put some wiring in for the lighting and so. now it is ready for the wood panels to be made and nailed on the woodframe. I have bought 3 plywood plates to make them from. this will take a lot of measurements to be taken to get it right :ergh: cheers jaap |
Almost done!
Hi Jaap,
It looks as if you're almost done. The truck looks very nice. Great job you're doing! Cheers, |
Great Detail Work
Hi Jaap
Your progress is most impressive. Just out of curiosity what are your roof bows made out of? Back in post 141 it the picture looks like wood, but are they single pieces of wood for each bow or are they a laminate. Interesting that you could find a good insulation to replace the original, the insulation used on my radio box was some kind of shredded paper which I discovered after removing it burned very fiercely, glad I didn't try to do any body work on the out side of the box which required heat or flame. Keep up the good work. Cheers Phil |
thanks marc for your reaction.
phil the bow's of the roof are made of oakwood as the whole frame is and the bow pieces are made in 2 parts with special connections screwed together to form the bow. this way it's strong and light at the same time. on the roof part are only 2 pieces of angle iron to support the roof from bending down when you stand on the roof, but the rest is all oakwood. I can take pictures if neaded no problem. cheers jaap :coffee |
Similar construction to S56 radio shelters
Hi Jaap
Sounds like the same construction as the US slide in radio shelters made for US Duce and Half, same box used, borrowed acquired, lend lease, by Canadian and Australian Armys. Side frames are solid oak. While the roof as the same two curved angle iron braces with the rest of the roof bows being made up of 1 inch wide x 1/8 thick strips steam bent and glued. I wondered as your roof looks so straight front to rear while most of the S56 get sort of swaybacked over the years. Again great work. Cheers Phil |
carpenter skills....
3 Attachment(s)
A new skill was to be tryed out when I started on the inside of the radiobody.
after the insulation was in place it was time to carpenter the plywood panels in place this took a lot of measureing to cut ones. it took me a whole weekend to get it right and it still can be beter I think. I also put the angle iron bar for the radiotable on the wall and closedup all the wholes so the walls looks smooth and are ready for paint. in the left back corner I will make a small cupboard for all kind of radioboxes and equipment they had. I only not have much pictures or so off the devide of the cupboard. so I have to make my one devideing. thats all for now guy's cheers jaap :drunk: |
Looks Great

It looks so good it is a shame to paint it..how about a nice fruitwood stain with some gold leaf trim and a French polish finish..?? Then off to the Louvre with it.. It is beautiful work.. :drunk: :thup2: :note: |

Hi there sparky, that's a very nice offer :thup2: , because I am looking for all the info I can get on the inside off the body.
So if it's not to much to ask, all around pictures of the inside would be very very helpfull :note: (as specially of the cupbord and the genny box) I have some idea off how it sould look but pictures of a finished one works beter. I am curious to see how your morris C8 looks like, mybe you can ad some pictures of it to. thanks :salute: cheers jaap :drunk: |

hi guy's after all that wood work I had to do something else so I got to a radio fair her in holland and found the tube part of the "B" antenna mount for the 19 set. :D
I have the rubber part already so I only have to murge these two together and whalla... just like old. I made a bracket for it and mounted it on the radiobody on the right fronttop. now I did some outside work again it is time to go on with the inside because it is far from ready, but I am getting there, some day :rolleyes cheers for now jaap :coffee |

nice morris C8 wireless
very nice morris you have sparky. :thup2:
looks very complete to me. Do you have the 14 aerial poles that go in the outside bracket ? Do you know a name or number of these poles ? I am looking foreward to the pictures of the inside of the body. I know one other morris C8 with a similar body, but I think it is a light warning body or a No 1 MK 2, here in holland. it stay's in venlo (south part of holland). it doesn't have the small front window and doesn't have the generator hatch on the righthand side only one on the back ? It has the table and the aerial brackets on the sides. I think it is a mix of the warning and radio body's. (there is a picture of it on the softskin forum, morris-commercial wireless info needed. hope to hear and see more of your truck thanks. cheers jaap  |

Now the wood work is in I could put the charging panel on it's place.
As you can see I am missing the switches so if anyone has some I like to know. the panel go's under the radiotable so the operator can selekt the right possition with the switches. I had to do the last side panel door for the generator box. So I cut the hole in the righthand side and hammerd the edges in to there form. then I made the wooddoor witch is to be coverd with sheet metal same as the other one I made for the back. but that next time. :ergh: cheers jaap |
