Here is a photo of my track they are 90% in excellent condition , but I have 25 to 30 links that need up dating on one track tail . so I'm hoping some one can help me out on MLU . My track looks like it has not been used much as it still has the casting lugs on the centre sprocket hole . If some one can help me out PM me . Dale

Today I painted up the three colours on the flare box lid . From Darrins and Euan photos it looks like some where painted with the colour going around the corners of the lid , or flat on top . Dale

Can some-one help me out with what the retaining clip that hold the hand brake cable into position on the hand brake looks like , also the clamp that holds it at it's end to the bracket on the lower hull front . I can't find any info in the parts book . If any one has some spare for sale I'll buy . Dale

I'm still after a close up photo of the clamp that holds the bottom of the hand brake cable to the tag welded to the lower front plate maybe some one has this part on the bench the manual picture has no detail . Thanks Dale

This is the part you need for the lower handbrake clamp. From memory the top clip is similar to the type used to fasten jeep brake flex hoses to the axle housings so one of these may fit? Ian |

Restored the speedometer today with help from MLU members tips . I did the metal work , tidy up and applied the sticker . My friend who is a retired instrument maker cleaned up the insides reset the barrel back to zero , painted some of the missing numbers back on , Andrew was spot on about the numbers very fragile they look like letterset , then re-greased and tested , also repaired the broken pointer .

Speedo Panel
One other tip, is that I believe the gear change lettering was blacked out, I believe this to be how it came out of the "Bren Factory" when being made, This can be achieved by just using a black "vivid pen".....Your thoughts?

Here is a pic of my dash, there has been lots of speculation about what is correct and what is not (speedo face early brown & white or later gray & white truck style). I think they would have utilised whatever parts were ordered or they had at the time.
The gear segments were blacked out, when installed at the factory, this is due to the gear change ratios on the speedo face being different due to tracks & sprockets. The fuel gauge was also painted black, as the BGC did not have an electric sender unit. Needle removed. They had to fill the hole in the instrument cluster. I used matt black adhesive contact, in case I need to later remove the black. |

Just catching up on providing data...
there are two styles of clamps, clips or 1/2 saddles to secure the end of the hand brake cable to the hull bracket. The early style, as shown in pic and the later style that Ian has shown. I think the change came about due to the end of the cable moving and making the application of the hand brake less effective. Not that it is very effective in the first place... |

Hi guys, this is a very original dash panel. The gauge is in there, black with a white needle. (that's how it looks to me)
I have a photo of the back showing the wiring, but it is too big to load. I think I have posted the photos before. |

Have attached some of the reference pics that I have collected over the years.
As you may tell, there is not a 100% correct answer on how the instrument cluster looked, especially after 70 years and little technical documentation. Often truck clusters and gauges were mixed, all comes down to when. Was it during assembly? while the vehicle was in service and utilising whatever spare parts were delivered? was it post war to keep the vehicle road worthy and going? some of the attached pics are mine and some are from various sources such as MLU. |
Cluster
This topic Darren and I spent lots of time on, Lynn is correct with the fuel gauge as mine is a NOS carrier cluster thanks to Keith and the fuel gauge is complete but with out markings.
Out of Darrins pics the top two are right then you have a modified dash that could have been in a Strickland and a Mosley interpretation. |

Instrument cluster is just about done. Before and after photos . More parts coming next week . If some one has a spare correct speedometer sticker that would be great ! I've Google for one , but only find the same as I have .

I bought a set of early style decals off ebay. The seller is based in the usa and has decal sets for 1940's ford instrument panels. Price is fairly reasonable at about $100 with postage. He also supplies new numbers for the odometer barrels too in the set.

This week I've finished the dash off , lots of chasing up of parts , frustrating at times but satisfying to have it in the carrier tonight .

Followed Darrin's lead and made up the hooks and buckles, not much fun , but worth the effort . I'll sew up the pattern 37 next week . Not much time to work on carrier lately . I have all the cover plates and leather parts done, painted up the fuel cross over lever rod and restored the track winch and special handle for it , also painted the air ducting . Just waiting on the motor to be rebuilt .. Dale

Carrier Air cleaners . It took me a long time to find these , I wire wheeled them today . I'm very happy with the way they came up . I'm having trouble finding rubber 2 1/2 inch inside DIA hose to suit any one know where to buy . Dale

Dale, your best bet would be an irrigation supply store or look at radiator hoses for large tractors or prime movers.
Rubber marine exhaust hose comes in 2 1/2" but it is expensive, I just found it on ebay. |

Water Can Measurement
The measurement should be 160mm to fit the water can you have. They must have had the apprentice boy making that rear tray! If you re-weld the tag on it pays to give it an extra few mm to allow for the rivet on the strap , so it does not wear on the tin.
