Update on 9.00x 13 Tires

Rob and all:

I spoke with Wallace Wade this morning and the status is that same as I reported two months ago: Specialty Tire is interested and will make a run sometime in the future. Wallace advised that apparently Specialty is doing considerable business with their other lines and these 9.00 x 13's are not a priority item. From what he said it's anybody's guess as to when they'd make a run of them. Wallace did say he'd give them an update with the revised count, 54 tires so far, and will advise me if there's any possibility of a firm production date.

Sorry that my report can't be any more positive!

Regards,
Jim

PS If there's anyone out there who hasn't posted a desire to purchase some of these tires, please do so. The more potential orders we can get the better the chance Specialty may make a run.

I suppose Dunlop USA is long out of the business?

Jim Price 28-07-08 22:32

Tony:
I checked the Dunlop site on the 'net and both sent them an email and called the vintage tire number listed in the site. The number reaches Universal Tire and the person answering the phone advised that they did not have any tires that are 9.00 x 13.

I've checked Dunlop-related sites in the past and had no success; if my latest email is answered I'll post the response.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Regards,
Jim

Interesting .... I am in for 5. That'll bring your numbers up a wee bit more.

Gambrills MD isn't far from Indiana PA.

Thanks, Jim, for posting the topic and making the calls. I'm interested to hear more about the final say on the tread pattern & certification. I am heading outside right now to bury a jar full of disposable income in the backyard for this glorious day.

Cheers, Johnnie.

John:
Have noted your interest in 5 of the 9x13 tires. It seems that Specialty Tire, where the mold(s) are located, are currently overwhelmed with orders from the US military. Soooo, it may be awhile before anything transpires.

Regards,
Jim

David DeWeese 05-09-08 05:39

I will also definitely be in for five of the 9.00 x 13" tires for my C8.
Thanks, David

PS Good luck on the resto of your C8! I'm having quite a time with my F8!

I received the following email from Wallace Wade today:

The minium quantity to produce is 100 to 150. Thanks for your help on this 900-13 to get them produced. Will keep your information. The factory is having the molds checked.

Thanks,
Wallace

Mr. Wade:

I have now received commitments for 64 of the above tires. Is there any positive news regarding a production of them occurring anytime soon that I might pass on to those who have committed? Please advise.

Best regards,
Jim Price

Sorry that the news on these is not much better than what I'd posted earlier!

MRF Tires

Having despaired that Wallace Wade would ever come through with some 9.00 by 13 tires, I gave up my search for them temporarily. However, while at a parade nearby late last year I met up with Rod Shaver (He has a Carrier.) who lives in my community. He mentioned that he was having a container filled with parts by MV Spares. I immediately jumped at the chance to ask him if I could add some tires to it and he agreed. Thanks to Tony Smith I had a contact up in Moree who sells MRF tires. To make a long story short, the five tires arrived this past Thursday! Now all I need is a spare rim!

Jim

I purchased four of them from Moree some 4 years back . It was our forum member Lang Kidby who put us onto them . I've yet to fit them ! Let us know how they 'feel' on the road . The pattern seems to be akin to the NATO style tread.

Mike

Jim Price 04-04-09 04:22

Mike,
Will probably be installing them next week. Will let you know how they "feel".

Jim

It looks the tread was inspired by one of Michelin's off road treads. The NATO tread (attached) is an improved NDT (bar) tread, as originally engineered by the German Army in WW2, and improved after WW2.

I think Mike might have been referring to the Michelin XL or XML treads. The Unimog when first introduced in service here had Hanno's type tread pattern and were naturally called "NATO pattern", but have now been replaced with the Michelin XL, which for the sake of clarity is known as the "NATO pattern"! ASLAVs are fitted with Michelin XML tyres, which to distinguish them from the Mogs are known as "NATO pattern".:

Trelleborg makes them, but.......

Hi,
As I also need a set of the 9.00-13" tires, I have been chasing a lead that just possibly came to a dead-end for me, but maybe not for those who need them in Europe.
Trelleborg in Sweden lists them on their website. They are listed as the size 260/90-13TL, tread pattern AF302. Under this size listing it remarks that these "replace 9.00-13". It lists the tires and tubes in their downloadable "Standard Implement Brochure".
Talked to the manager of their Agricultural Division for North America today. He said that this size had never been imported into the U.S., but were available in Europe and were made for Trelleborg in Sri Lanka.
Having said this, there are Trelleborg tire dealers in the US, and they do import all of their stock. Will try and get more information on importing some of these tires into the U.S. to a Trelleborg dealer. They are rated as agricultural, so shouldn't be a problem with DOT.
If I get a positive response I will let everybody know.
Would post a link to their website, but can't get it to work for me.
Thanks, David

Trelleborg Wheel Systems web site

I entered here:
http://www.trelleborg.com/en/wheelsystems/Home/
and was able to get to their downloads page.

I find that many companies have limited content in the country specific sites for countries that they view as secondary markets (or worse).

Jim Price 16-04-09 05:52

Tim,
Will add your name and quantity to the list. As far as I can tell they are the tread as shown in your pictures. The count, byw, is up to 69.

Regards,
Jim

David,

Interesting! I thought I had seen a reference to Swedish 13" tyres before, and indeed after searching long I found the quote I was looking for. Tony however was referring to Victor tyres of Sweeden :rolleyes

Anyhow, here are the relevant data and links from www.trelleborg.com

Quote:

AF302
The new Implement tires are metric size marked, tubeless and Load/Speed index rated, which gives a higher load capacity and higher permitted speed (40-50 kph) than previous tires.
The tires are recommended for trailers and other agricultural Implements such as spreaders, balers, ploughs, drills etc.

A quick search yielded the 260/90-13 (9.00-13) Trelleborg AF302 is available in Holland for EUR 167,00 excl taxes. (ref. http://www.middelbos.nl/banden-en-wi...plement/13inch)

Alex van de Wetering 16-04-09 14:14

Interesting..... David, thanks for the info regarding the Trelleborg tires.

I did a similar search as Hanno for dealers here in West-Europe and found that Agri-tyres direct in the UK offer the AF302 for 81,14 GBP.

That would be great and certainly has me thinking!

David DeWeese 16-04-09 15:59

No problem, Alex. That's what we are all here for, isn't it. To help each other out, right? :)
So......, which kind soul would be willing to help a brother out in getting a set of these to Texas? :rolleyes
Thanks, David

David DeWeese 23-04-09 01:11

Good news.......

Well, after trying every possible source in North America for getting some of the Trelleborg tires, I think my ship finally came in!
After multiple calls and e-mails, I talked with a nice lady at the Trelleborg Agricultural Division office who took pity on me, and gave me a good contact. This contact gave me another contact in Dallas who did some checking for me....
Got a call back this morning. Well, apparently Trelleborg in Sweden has received enough interest in the 260/90-13's that they are importing,....1200 of them!
Told my contact that they would be lucky to sell 100 of them between both the U.S. and Canada combined, but he said they must have another reason for bringing them in such numbers. Maybe for a new agricultural product line.
They will be delivered to a distribution warehouse in the Southern U.S. late June to middle of July.

The catch is that the Trelleborg dealers in the U.S. are all wholesale dealers only, selling to farm equipment manufacturers and such. There are no retail outlets....
Well, me being a Texas car dealer, I was accepted as a tire dealer by the Trelleborg wholesale outlet in Dallas. :)
I'm going to cross my fingers and wait until they arrive. I only wanted six tires, but if this actually happens, there will be more than enough of these tires for everyone who needs them.
Thanks David

Having purchased five new tires I have no need for the four Firestone of Canada that I removed. They all will hold air and can be driven around the block. However, I wouldn't drive them on the road for any distance. I think that the youngest one in the bunch is dated 1947. If any of you need a set just for display purposes, I'm offering them up for $250 for the set, FOB my home in Chandler, Arizona 85224. They weigh about 23 kilos each for an approximate weight of 210 pounds. Shipping is to be arranged by the buyer but I will load.

Regards,
Jim

Phil Waterman 22-05-09 22:28

What do the new tires weigh

Just out of curiosity what do the new tires weigh?

Cheers Phil

Jim Price 23-05-09 03:07

Phil,
I'm not sure about the tires by themselves but the dealer said the weight for a tire and tube was 24.5 kilos. I'll admit to guessing at the weight of my tires using this figure.

Jim

Tubes

Would you by chance know what the brand and part number is for the tubes you are using with the 9.00x13's?

I have been searching in Ottawa for a quite a while now and have had no luck finding anything that will work.

Thanks,

J

Grant Bowker 20-11-09 23:25

Jason, have you spoken with the folks at Frisby tire? The south Ottawa / Queensdale branch deals more in truck and farm tires than most of their other branches. When I wanted 9x16 tubes their only question was "how many, with which valve stem style?".
