I dont know if they were all like this, but this photo shows the profile of the stud on an original jack bracket that I have. This example being the mount for a 3" mortar.

Couple more bits and pieces made and found.

First up is that odd piece that goes into the corner of the crew stowage locker. Still have no idea what it was for. My grandmother thought maybe for a can of coke :confused

Second up is two orginal parts that the latches pull against to secure the lid.

As for the strap studs, I checked out some more bits and the Cnd made parts look almost like the grease nipple whereas the Brit made parts have the pointy style. One of the Brit ones even was threaded and secured with a nut and lock washer whereas the other Brit studs were welded/ rivited.

More progress has been made on my crew stowage locker. The 2 latches are all finished along with the small retaining clip. Just a few more bits and this bin is done.

Ive also started work on the second part of the WS19 rack. I believe it is the #22 carrier that Im making. Once that is done I can have my WS19 installed in the Carrier for displays.

I'd also thought I would show what my working area looks like. It gets a little cramped and dusty at times but thanks must go to my Grandparents and Uncle for letting me use the space.

Here is the latest piece that I just finished. It is the hold down bracket for the arial rods. Most copies I have seen replicate the metal part but I was able to borrow an original from another MLU'er that still had the rubber insulator on. I made up a mold and cast rubber around the metal part just like the original. It even copied the cracks that the original had. The original is on the left.

Hey Jordan I think you should go into the carrier reprodution buisness as your pieces look great. Now I know what that bracket is for, Care to make another???

Got another part underway. Its the bracket for holding the muzzle of the Boys Anti-Tank rifle. The red is all new made while the rubber parts are original.

My problem is that we couldn't find the correct diameter tubing to match the rubber even thought it matched the tubing on a second orginal bracket I had.

Notice the part number/date cast into the side of the bottom rubber.

As for making the rubber parts I may just make a core and cast the rubber directly into the metal bracket. The only down side is that it won't be removable like the original.

Well I finaly got around to making a front seat for the gunner. Its been 4 years and no luck in finding an original one. I did find one to borrow and copy from and here is the result. I cut out the parts and did some of the bending while my uncle did all the welding for me at work.

Ive just got to get two of the holes countersunk for the screws and its ready to be painted and installed. One more item to check off on the gradualy shrinking to-do-list.

Just got these latest goodies in the mail late last week. It is a wiring harness for the Carrier. All new made by Vintage Wiring of Maine.

It is extremly well done and top notch. The only bits missing are the wires for the horn and the battery-starter motor cables. He has the stuff to make them but didn't have any information on them. Hopefully I can save my orginals and get them off to him so that copies can be made.

Once I get my conduit pipes all cleaned up and installed this wiring will be going in and the carrier will be changed back to 6 volt.

Thanks for the comments Stewart. It wouldn't have been possible without your help and all the help of the MLU community.

As for mufflers, soon.;) I promiss it will be done by spring. You'll never hear me coming now.

A couple of more bits ready for installation. They are the circuit breaker and the fuse holder for the Mk1 Carrier. I salvaged these out of the rusty dash from a few weeks ago. When I took the plastic cover off of the fuse holder it was so clean. What you see is how it looked.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to test these?

The first item with the glass fuze, also incorporates the Ignition resistor. apply 6 volts to one side, and you'll get about 4.5 out the other side for your coil.

I started installing the new wiring from my harness set that I got. Very easy to instal and everything goes in really well. One bit I did notice was that the Vintage Wiring of Maine set is for a MK1 UC with only 2 toggle switches and no horn button. This just means that I need to make up a few more wires and change the path of one or two in the set. Im also sourcing out the little brass clips that holds the wiring in place. I have one orginial one that is stamped CTL 12941, FMCO 42. All the ones in the rusty dash broke as soon as I tried to save them. Interestingly none of them had the part numbers. Must have changed suppliers in 1942 vs 1942.

My toggle switches are new made ones but they have the wires instead of the terminals. What I have done is add the eyelets and just screwed the wiring onto them. That way when I get some correct style toggles I can just unscrew the old ones.

Hi Jordan, Your picture of the enclosed fuseholder and pictures has solved the problem of the second fuse mounted in the dash, this is the correct postion and type of fuseholder?. I need to get one for my dash panel, were did you get your wiring loom, new old stock or made up?. They still sell this type of cable?. I will post some pictures if you like of my attempt to replicate a dash panel. cheers Kevin.

Dirk leegwater new old wiring loom sold by the meter on his web page if that helps. problem that it may present is if it has been sitting for all these years it will be corroded inside the shielding

The wiring loom/ harness is all new made by Vintage Wiring of Maine. Check out their website for contact info. Asfor using NOS wiring. I would only use it for a pattern. Don't trust that old stuff at all as it can be an endless problem of shorts and leading to fires.

bren carrier mk1 dash fuseholder.

They look the same. I found that site the other day but never got around to posting the link. They also have the little brass "P" clamps used for securing the cables inside the dash.

I see that same site has replacement glass for the CMP mirrors at a reasonable price, along with the clamp for putting that type mirror onto the UC stem. They also have chromed CMP (Lucas) mirrors at a not so reasonable price.

wondering why your are using the vehicle number of the Hastings And Prince Edward Regt. on your carrier rather than the number of RHLI

liked your pictures and the detail you have included.

The number is what is stamped into the top edge of the front armour. its actually part of the series for the Carriers converted over to the 2pdr Carrier.

Do you have listing of the different numbers the regts used?

Jordan My Good friend Jim Debock west of Edmonton Just finnished a three year restoration on a running carrier .He has done a excellent job and it is original I would take things off of mine for him to copy "I can say this would make any body nervice ,and he would make them just like the original ones .The windows switches front armament boxes ,fender skirts ect .He restord my brengun and when I take it to the Legion The RCMP sure stare at it .Jim is in the process of making a Windsor carrier now . He tells me he would write things on MLU but he can not log in for some reason .Reg Hodgson, Army Motors editer has a nice original carrier .Jim and I have the armament measurements for a MKK1 .I have trouble to post pictures on this site .I will have to get my grandson to help me . George i would be interested in those measurements if you manage to get them to hand.

Had 4 days off in a row this past weekend and guess what. I spent most of it working on the UC. My conduit pipes have all been cleaned and primed. I have a few fixes to do due to the pipe splitting but it should weld up fine. Lots and lots of little electrical brackets cleaned and a few ones new made since the originals were too far gone.

I also picked up some nice NOS stuff the other day. A box of blackout disks for the rear light, part of the antenna bracket, 2 wrench's (one looks like it went through a mechanics ear and out the other side, yuck:ergh:), springs for the headlamps and rubber bushings for the radio cables. The best part or should I say parts I got this weekend were a set of NOS mufflers.
