Your RAF Fordson would have been the industrial version that did have high gear ratios for road work. Looking forward to seeing a pic of it. |

Karrier Bantam photos
Thread slowed down a bit.
I have a friend who recently purchased a 1/76 scale model of what is described as a WWII Karrier Bantam with box body. I know it existed in MK1 and MK11 versions but have been completely unable to find any photos of same. Anyone can help maybe?? Thanks Bill |
Bantam Karrier
Dear Bill it looked like this - but with a box body rather than flatbed

Hi Larry:
I would appreciate it if you could post the photo directly here. My Browser sends up a monumental "Malware" warning when I try to download the photo from your posting. Cheers Bill |

A tardy thanks to all of you that helped out here.

Here is another colour photo of an RAF Bedford QL bowser I saw on the web.
Interestingly the roundal on the side of the Bedford has what appears to be its red circle in the roundal changed to a red star. At first I thought this was to do with it belonging to an Yugoslavian unit - but just like some tanks I have seen with a hammer and sickle i think it is the ground crew showing off their left wing political beliefs as many did in 1945. The Spitfire is a late mark with late versions of the wing roundals. In early 1945 they had a white ring added to the red/ blue wing roundal but immediate post war some Sqns changed the white to yellow. |

Any chance this could be the red star.

Bedford
I've mentioned it is a star already - do you mean Red Star as some kind on brand name?
I believe the late mark Spitfire with 5 bladed prop was photographed in Germany so I doubt the bowser has anything to do with an eastern European 'Red' Air Force - just a bit of fun I think. Also post VE Day 1945, Yugoslavia was causing trouble with Italy disputing the border around Trieste etc so I doubt any RAF units remained in the country |
OK lads : the aircraft is a Spitfie MK XIV now here is your clue it belongs to 414 Sqn RCAF. taken april 1945 at Wunsdorf Germany. The marking was common on Canadian sqns but this example is a bit smaller than normal.

 Canadian......Maple Leaf..... :bang:

Comical Canadians
I understand Ted
The RCAF liked to use the red maple leaf in place of the usual red dot, just to be individual in the same way the white star was often upside down on vehicle doors, just to show they were not Yanks! |
Canadian stars
Recently posted on another forum was an order from one of the Canadian formations that the Allied star was to be painted on vehicles POINT FORWARD whereas other nations had their stars point upward. Thus explaining the skewed Canadian stars.

Seeing as this thread is getting off topic I thought I would attach this photo of what I believe is a torpedo carrier, especially as there is a Beaufort in the background.
I presume its RAF but what type of truck is it? Is it military or a civi truck converted for purpose in the UK |

I have this same photo in my data base with the caption - torpedo carrying truck at Nowra circa 1942. which would place the truck and plane in Australia so it would be RAAF. |
Nowra
Yes, Nowra was where the torpedo training happened.
In a related matter the Beauforts I think from Nowra were involved in this mid-air collision: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BpDt4wor20 |

RAF Vehicles
Les the WW2 photo shows an interesting version of diruptive camo on the right hand vehicle, possibly a Bedford QL. I have seen that style on army trucks but not RAF. I wonder if this MT section was for 2nd TAF or for vehicles used on RAF Stations?
