c8 fuel tank questions
-On my c8 it has the front fuel tank mount (the one with the handbrake linkages on it )as seen on a 1a2 bodied c8 but not the rear one(has the bolt holes there) -Did any of the australian bound ones have the 1a2 body or the 1b1 or were they all duple ? -Are that variety of fuel tank 1 large fuel tank or are there 2 end to end ? (in the cab there is a fuel tank change over valve) -In the third attached picture it shows standard cmp fuel tank brackets fitted . This would be a later tack on wouldnt it ? Thanks  |
cab 12 mystery chassis bracket
1 Attachment(s)
Max made a discovery today about the mystery bracket as shown earlier in the thread
apparently it is used to hold the toolbox or spare tyre carrier (the ones made of wood ) from hitting on the cab Good detective work max :thup2: |

hopefully at some stage max might be able to fill in the story (sorry to dob you in max )
Have solved a few little mysteries on my c8 . I have discovered the headlights are from a 40,s bedford pc or similar speedo is from a civilian chevrolet truck (the same as in my 38 chev) gauges same as in bedford civilian or similar of late 40,s |
the bracket behind the cab is for a steel frame tyre carrier, I must have given you the wrong info on that one Andrew. I was in a bit of a muddle the other night as Hugh was waiting to load an old trailer we had, it was midnight when we finished and it was one of the gooddies in the tunnel that turned heads when they drove through
Max |
definately some goodies in your tunnel max - a large selection even :thup2: :thup2:
Cant blame them for being distracted Didnt quite catch what you were saying the other night .I think i just had wooden stuck in my head from the block bolted to this bracket  |

Windscreen Braces
Hi Andrew - another one saved, good onya. This one has the interesting adaptation of the bracing pieces attached to the roof/windscreen area. This was subject of a 2004 thread started by KEEFY. I've pasted the link below so hopefully it will work. Someone please tell me how I can convert this long link title to something like "Here".

Got her breathing and spitting fire today
good reason ford put v8 in them -if you average out the operating cylinders you end up with 6 anyway :D :D :D usual fuel feed problems and sticking starter motors fixed that problem though when i attached the other ford starter :thup2: |

evolution
2 Attachment(s)
It is always interesting to see the changes or evolution in models even in the same cab type
This would have to be one of the best in this model First picture is of an earlier cab 12 one piece (not easy removeable ) engine side cover The second later model cab 12 multi piece covers Have now got the latest running on 7 cylinders with the final cylinder having either a stuck or burnt valve :bang: |
going your way
Andrew with a bit of luck Kathy and I should be in Dubbo Wednesday afternoon, if ok we will look you up

Instrument Panel
Hi Andrew - My knowledge of Cab 12s is pretty limited so answer me this question. The instruments in your later Cab 12 shows round instruments. Are these original or is that a retrofit panel? My understanding is that round gauges were not introduced until around 1943.

Andrew
The diamond may indicate a armoured unit ..my first C8, a cab 12 , from 1981 , had the same diamond on it ..plus the 1st Aust. Armoured Div sign on the cowl. Z4544 was the reg. prefix too . You are certainly dragging them in ..where you been fishing ? I see it has correct wheels , at least two . Mike |
Thanks Mike
It has a 4 correct wheels (2 on 2 off )with one original spacer block for the rear and another manufactured one motor siezed , Some rust in the usual places but mostly complete short the fuel tanks, wheel carriers and tray  Will be good when i get the pair restored I have been racking up some serious phone bills on the chev cab 12 parts hunt :D casting a very large net :D |
data
looking at the numbers on your plate compared to the 1981 C8 cab 12 .
Yours serial: 1842020176 Mine 1842008354 engine: yours 3712802 Mine 3692055 Yours has a somewhat higher serial number compared to mine ..by 11822 units ... They may have stamped the plates ..not by model, but buy production line sequence ..? Mike |
