Well I just finished up fabricating new sand shields as the ones I got with the carrier were not that great of shape. Getting closer to getting another paint session in and then things will go a lot faster again :D

A few updates to post, Finally finished up with the gas tanks painted and installed with the rest of the fuel system. Was also able to obtain a NOS set of the gas tank straps with the turnbuckles, Just have to finish up on the vent tubes for the full finish. It now is running on its own fuel system :cheers:

With the fuel tanks installed I could finally put on the tracks and the first time in 51 years I'm told it moves under its own power, Oh what a feeling. Still a ways to go but the future looks bright :thup2:

Very nice Dave, you have done a very nice job. How come you decided to join the track at the front? It's traditionally done between the sprocket and the back bogie wheel. :salute:

You mean I broke tradition :eek: I just found it easy to pull them from the back and there is lots of room to pull them together up front :)

Much easier to join the track at the front Lynn, you should give it a try buddy.
That said, when Jnr and I are track bashing, he usually jumps in and acts as brake man for me, I then pull the track onto the sprocket and walk the hub with my feet, when it's fairly tight Jnr presses the brake and holds the track firm whilst I set up my ratchet strap to give it the last sinch... Works a treat, |
Easier is in the mind of the beholder
I join my tracks at the back by myself without a jack, straps etc. just using the sprocket just a rope to lift it over the idler then sit it on the sprocket, turn ,slid in pin, all done ! get in and drive :D |

I, too, am for doing it at the sprocket. I normally work alone, and if I am feeling lazy, don't remove the track tension ether. A bar at the sprockets will work the track over until I can get the M113 track jack to engage. The impact gun does the rest. Just did one a couple days ago without issue.
To each his own though, taking into consideration the limitations of the individuals tooling and experience. |

Amen to that. To trust a track with your fingers is to give your fingers to the track. Track does not warn or forgive.

Looks great, I know it's been a long time project, that's my next one after I finish my APT. I'll be looking for those old sand shields if you still have them for my Mk1. Been out out of circulation for a few months, lost my Mom Easter Sunday, 82 years still young at heart, I will miss her. The carrier restoration will be a way to to remember her legacy as first as a child of 6 years old in WW2 in 1939 to a Polish refugee after WW2 finally imagrating to Canada in 1950. Eleven years, it's hard to imagine. See you soon! Walde |

Glad it helped you along. As with all of the postings other members have done that helped me along the way to get mine done I thank them as well. Been a while since I have posted here but I did not get it out last year to any events due to weather and other commitments but hoping that this year will be better. I did however get to drive it around my subdivision a few time and have put on 29 miles on the odometer. I did put markings of the south Alberta regiment.
