HUW on MilWeb - pricey....

1943 Chevrolet C8A Wireless Truck
Age has caught up with me and the time has come to offer my very original Chevrolet Wireless truck for sale. It has done less than 10,000 miles from new. As far as I can tell it was never issued and was released from the MoD in 1947 with 500 miles on the clock. It was privately owned before being purchased by a military vehicle museum, from where I bought it 21 years ago.

The vehicle is right-hand drive with a beautiful wooden steering wheel. It comes with its four original, 1942-dated, part-worn, run-flat tyres plus one good spare. The original tyres were replaced with bar-tread tyres which are in excellent condition. The truck is equipped with a No.19 radio set, original operator’s head-set, antennae, a set of snow chains (unused), jack, starting handle, radiator muff, stainless steel exhaust, shovel, original 1942-dated detailed maintenance manual and a modern towing bar.

£42,500

Sad to say, it is time for someone else to have fun and take care of this lovely little truck.
Made in 1942 in canada this is the rarer 4x2 version 13 cab truck.
Powered by its correct flathead v8 engine and 4 speed crash box, no transfer case on this model.
I have fitted electronic ignition that does away with the contact breakers and condenser and never needs adjusting.
Also have fitted a solid state regulator to get rid of the unreliable coils.
It is currently taxed (free) and MOT exempt, and insurance works out at about £100 fully comp.
Tyres are 900x16 petlas on correct split rim wheels and will be good for many years to come.
I bought this vehicle because of it's correct original fittings, and I think this is one of it's strong points.
Bad(ish) points, This is an older restoration and as such is showing signs of age and use, the rear canvas has a tear in it and a few small holes but keeps the inside dry, I also think it is from a different vehicle as the lower straps do not line up correctly at the back, it still closes though.
The paint underneath is starting to flake in places, you may wish to repaint.
A new dip switch will be needed and of course the small oil leaks from old seals.
Non of the above stops me from using the truck and if it doesn't sell on here this week, we will be camping out at malpas beginning of September.
I could go on for ages, but if you are interested, drop me a line and we can talk some more, I would definatelly recommend that you view before bidding, we are located in beautifull North Wales.
The pictures shown are from when I purchased the truck from Jersey and has been re registered here so has a different reg number
Test drives are more than welcome, you will need fully comprehensive insurance for the truck and £ 7000 cash in my hand, I will pay for the petrol.
Any inspection is more than welcome, I will put the kettle on!
Cash or cheque is fine, but will have to clear in my account before release, no paypal unless you pay the fees!

Yes indeed, I now took some time to search this thread and found Gareth offered it for sale here in 2011 for £8500 ono, apparenty not selling he put it on ebay in 2012 and again earlier this year with a wining bid of £5000. Now for sale again by a new owner after gaining a few pounds - like you said, Alex :D

The rear body looks non-standard, could well be one of the F15 4x2 chassis/cabs delivered to the UK to be fitted with a Polsten gun. It seems not all were actually fitted with the 20-mm AA gun, and were quickly sold off post-war to be fitted with various types of bodies in civvie street.

Lots of fun, Diesel,

1943 - 46 Chevrolet Army truck, Built originally for the British Army, it is R/H/D, as you can see its in original condition and could either be used as it is or re-painted etc to smarten it up, it was fitted with a Perkins diesel engine approx. 50 years ago, the engine is unbelievable, it starts instantly every time, the cab really needs some repairs, new metal letting in etc, but it has been in use this year as it is, it is mot and tax exempt.
I am the first to admit that I know nothing about these vehicles, im not even sure of the model (maybe someone could tell me) it looks loads of fun though and would be great for taking to rallies/re-enactments etc etc (if you are quick there is a big one at Pickering in Yorkshire this weekend)
Runs and drives, we can deliver at extra cost, comes with v5, registration number is DJU 354 and the current tax disc is here.
The v5 states a registration date of 24/06/1946 but the previous owner told me it was manufactured in 1943.
The winning bidder must pay a £250 deposit immediately after the auction ends, the balance must then be received within 5 days
More pictures to be added
On 09-Oct-13 at 21:53:55 BST, seller added the following information:
Forgot to mention, the truck has a huge winch mounted to the chassis near the rear axle (see new pics) It also still has the machine gun turret visible on the roof, the interior pic shows the engine cover missing but we do have that.

1940 Ford F15, No 11 Cab

Ford F15, only 3400 genuine miles from new. Reduced Price, due to selling house.
Original panels, tyres and wood. V8 4litre engine, with original 6volt and starts first time, brakes and steering like new. Has canvas windows. Has been kept in the dry.

HISTORY - This vehicle was issued to the Special Operations Executive at Thame Park, in 1940. It was used mainly for training French radio operators. On the departure of the SOE the then owner of Thame Park acquired it and it was used around the estate until 1950 where it was then left in a sawmill until 1986 when the park was sold.At this time it had only 762 miles on the clock. This information was in Wheels and Tracks magazine (issue number 25) which comes with the vehicle.

Comes with it's Ford motor company driving-maintenance-repair book. Also a Ford Illustrated spare parts book issued in 1943.
It also has a rare original number plate which has been valued in 2010 at £3,500.

I have been on the internet to research this vehicle and it seems to be rare and the only one of this model around.

This vehicle has a genuine World War 2 history and is 99% original from when it was on War duty at Thame park.

Now needs some TLC, some surface rust underneath. Please ring for more details 01208 74429.

Price £10,750 ono.

Any ideas on the radio box? Is it a modified Canadian body, or maybe postwar Austin, Morris...? The shape of the top looks different from a Canadian body, also roof sits higher and windows are somewhat different.

My Canadian Ford (CMP) 4x4 believed to be 1944 as that is the date stamped on each tyre.
Got the original V8 Ford "Flathead" sidevalve petrol engine which is free and turns on the handle and the starter motor too.
Showing less than 6000 miles on the speedometer and no reson why this wouldn't be genuine as it came out of service to be used as a recovery truck near to me in Leeds (still signwritten up in the same livery)
The wagon is all there but the cab has suffered from being open to the elements at times of its life.
Under body winch which can winch from front or back.
All recovery gear is there along with towing dolly "ambulance" various chocks, winch slings, ropes and steaks to winch round corners etc.
A rare old wagon in need of restoration but a project well worth doing, not been messed about with other than painted up by its first civilian owners.

viewing welcomed and highly recommended
