A sticky question

I am considering getting some outdoor quality Vinyl stickers made up, the sale proceeds of which will go to "Keeping Maple Leaf Up!". What would people prefer? A full size Tac sign (8 1/2" x 9"), or a smaller size (say 100mm x 110)? The full size one would look great on your vehicle, beerfridge, toolbox or model cabinet, while the smaller version would look good on the rear window of your car or on your computer.
Any comments?

I think the full size one would be the finishing touch on any project!

Tony,

Do you anticipate having these ready for Christmas giving?

I'd put ".org" in small size, but same font letters behind "UP".

Great initiative!

Thanks,
Hanno

No, but they should be ready for SALE by Christmas (Bah! Humbug). The manufacturer states 7-10 days from getting artwork.
So, a 50/50 split on sizes, Hmmm! No firm prices yet but the small ones should be something like $1-$2ea and the large $5-$7 (Aus $, Cdn $ or US$, that should cover postage)

Hi Tony;

I think either/or would be fine, if someone wanted large, they could order large, or if they prefer small, they could order small.

Cheers :)

Tony Smith 21-10-05 18:58

Yes, but the minimum order is 500, and I don't think there is a market for 1000 stickers so I have to choose one or the other, or get "Stuck" with a lot left over.

Hi Tony;

Go small ........ :D, they seem to sell better then the larger size ones.

Jon Skagfeld 21-10-05 19:46

If I have a choice, I'd like 3 each large and small.

If economy of purchase dictates otherwise, put me down for 6 of either size.

Regards.

I agree with Jon - really would like 3 or 4 of either or both sizes.

Don't set the price to low make sure to cover cost, postage, shipping sleaves and have something left over to put toward your orginal purpose.

I'm in for 3 of each or 5 of one.

Geoff, can you provide a high-quality image for reproduction?

Think of the market for this one: Canadians, Russians and Chinese!

Without the email address I'd prefer large to place throughout our encampment so as to direct participants to our camp, much as the signs were used in WW II. With the email address I'd prefer small, But in any event, I'd order half a dozen.

EEK!

Dunno how I missed this thread... but OK, here we go....

First of all, the MLU artwork as shown was done up by myself in original scale, based upon visuals of the originals. Bruce Parker painted up a full-sized sign a few years back, that presently extant within the Ballard's garage outside Southampton. It's an appropriate venue, given that the sign goes wherever they do!

It CAN be reproduced. All were painted by hand, so there is some leeway in terms of dimensions, fonts, etc - even the one I originally created required some degree of photoshop work to match the fonts with the old pics. The gold-ish frame IS my creation, and I would appreciate it if it were to be preserved.

If you guys REALLY want to run with this - and I love you for it - give me a couple of days to clean up some "original" artwork. And BTW, I have a HI-RES scan of the Canada-Russia-China decal sent to me by Richard Notton... that should work as art.

Keith Webb 25-10-05 07:56

Sizes

I reckon both would be good too - but probably the smaller one would sell better.

You could still stick it to a black tac sign.

I'd love to have some of the Canada ones too...

Do you prefer something like this with the Can-Rus-Chi decal in stead of the Divvy sign? The scan that Hanno provided of the decal wopuld be clear enough for the printer's artwork. It may have to occupy a larger proportion of the smaller sticker.

Keith Webb 25-10-05 12:33

No...

I think I'd rather have something pure as it were, not a composite, I think.

Another point, browsers no longer need the www so it might be good to just make it mapleleafup.org.

Maybe I should have some oldcmp.net made as well?

I'd go for a few of the small sized ones myself and am with Hanno on the Lend Lease stickers as well. I've been hoping someone would do up a batch of them for a while now.

Yes, we really want to run with this. We're members of MLU and proud to show it.

I wonder if the Ballard/Notton "C-R-C" decal is the most original available - Clive? Weren't they water slide transfers orginally?

The originals were available in a variety of media. Some were printed on cloth and sewn to bundles of clothing, some on paper which were then glued to crates while others were water transfers. The latter were found on Hi-power pistols, No. 19 Sets (and others) and CMP doors. I believe that the original size for the CMP was a 4-inch diameter but someone would have to confirm that. The transfer shown above (in Hanno's most recent post) isn't very true to the original but the one shown in his earlier post (which consists of the gold sparkle colour) is very good.
I will dig mine out and post them.

I didn't mean to suggest, in my previous post, that we get transfers. These will not stand up to normal wear and tear. I think that we should get adhesive stickers. Those who want them on their vehicles can apply them to magnetic sign material and trim to fit. They can then be applied and removed as desired.
I re-state my desire to have both sizes of the MLU sign before I get any of the MAB (Mutual Aid Board, Canada's answer to US Lend-Lease) stickers. I hope to acquire a Can-Am military motorcycle soon and will use the small size on the bike.

However, its taken years to realise, since few of us read Russian, that the printers who converted Ballard's artwork left the upper element off the Russian K. Would be easy to replace though being an identical mirror image to the lower stroke, someone a bit cute with paintshop could likely do it easily.

The scan stored here is over 5 meg so should be quite detailed.

Just goes to show what an important service you are providing Mr. Spinning-Bull!

To paraphrase Monty Python:

"I'm an MLU'er and I'm OK
I drink all night and work on trucks all day
I like to dress up in Army clothes
and hang around in cars!

Chorus: (everybody)

Oh! Geoff's an MLU'er and he's OK
He drinks all night and reviews posts all day
He won't get caught wearing women's clothes
'cause only Ma Yappy does!

THANKS GEOFF!

Thanks Hanno! Hope Geoff enjoys the song. Maybe one day we'll all be able to get together and sing a song or two over a fine glass of ale! Feel free to add a verse or two to the song! Derek.
