An old Ford 15a....... but it has a Chebby front axle... and a very old one at that..... can anyone date that Ford or is it Chevord or Forvy...... unusual heavy cast axle... no bolted cover on the front of the axle....same axle used on an early GCT......

...can anyone date the axle..... fits old stories of Ford being short of front axles and using Chevvy axles..... but how old is it ... and how beefy the casting.....

Look behind the added instruments.... an old rectangular civvy dash fitted in there.... engine cover is apparently the old style....

... this is a picture of what is left of the steering wheel of the old CGT...... probably an old Cab 11 or maybe a 10 1/2...... power train is complete but the cab is mostly evaporated......

Looking at the major assembly's manual I see at least 10 different part numbers for the C15A axle ass'y with 5" universals,and different steel and cast housings mentioned..but not identified by date or illustration..
Some part numbers have notes...****When supply depleted use part # xxxxxx****,so there were definately early and late castings and housings..

NIce find. Aren't the vertical D-rings on the bumper an early feature as well? What type of body was that truck what with having the rear fenders and all? And what is that box thingy on the side?

The Ds on most CMPs are like this - the horizontally mounted exceptions are the Chevrolet 8cwt and 15cwt 4X2 ranges. From the C15A up and all Fords had them mounted vertically.

Bob, in this thread , we looked at an early Cab 11 F15A. I made reference to the cast GM axle being listed as part no C011WQF-3000 A2 . It is listed in the Ford parts book SE39-42 as only being fitted to F15As, but that axle is no longer listed in the F15A-01 parts book (SE.114) of May '43. SE 39-42 covers all the models of Cab 11, 12, and first designs of Cab 13. F15A-01 only covers F15A's of all types, but apparently by that date the GM cast axle had been superseded.
Does this vehicle have an engine number stamped on the inlet manifold mounting face or over the inspection hole on the gearbox bellhousing?

Rob, I have a front and rear diff complete available as well as a decent cab w/ doors and front clip if interested...

Mr. Clarke / Mr. Carriere... whom did you pay for this, and how much? Just curious. I never deeded ownership over to anyone else, but it HAS been sitting where you found it for some years now. I certainly don't have the time or money to do it, so in a way I'm glad someone who will has it now. Still, a bit odd that whomever chose to bypass me...?

BTW, as best as I could figure, going by the dual checkerplate in the cab, it's a very early '42, and underneath all that crap on the frame you'll find original paint.

This whole escapade tells me that you don't have to be crazy to be in this hobby, but it sure helps.

A lesson for all: If a deal looks to be too good to be true - it probably is ...in my case, was.

I am pleased to announce - legally, that the orange truck is legally mine.

To my long suffering wife. I'm sorry for the confusion, and don't worry, the boy will get a Christmas present after all...it may be some time before he can actually drive it, but it beats getting lots of toys...

Yes indeed, that appears to be my C-GT. It is an early 11 cab (no vents on either side of the rad) and was stored beside that orange F15A. I have been collecting parts for it for quite some time and thought it was safely tucked away...or at least I'd hear something if there was a problem. The plan was to see if enough of it could be found to make it a viable project. What's there is a nice frame (with cast axles) and all the running gear, 216 engine etc., a body (cut from the doors back, but still with the complete floor and roof hatch), all the winch and fairleads and rollers, a gas tank and all the cab sheet metal (nice!!), the engine cover and the shift levers and linkages.

The truck is now in Ottawa, and the parts in various locations including here at home.

If anyone is interested in the lot, I'd be interested in hearing from you as I'll never get to it. I really think I'd like to at least see it all in one place so somebody might take pity on it.

I hope to be corrected by the last owner, but here is my call on the box thingy: it is tall enough to hold two welding bottles and is separated by threaded rod that may have had a spin on retaining device to keep the bottles from flinging = so I will go out on a limb and say it was a welding tank holder.

As for the truck's design - I am told that it is indeed a F15a which usually comes with a metal box (which I guess got separated after it left the army's stables).

Let us use this as a Learning Tool. Most of us know everyone else involved in this R.O.T. stuff... here, by happenstance, we learned someone tried to pass off another's rightful property as their own, with the same tacitly accepted by the receiver. I shall not name names, but you both know who you are, and please be advised that from this time forward, you're on the Watch List. I don't give a shit what your excuses might be, but your actions constitute FRAUD. Both of you knew to whom these vehicles belonged... hmmm... what does that say about YOU?

Rob and I settled things between us quite amicably, with my overriding proviso being that I be amongst the first passengers in his new Ford (he'll also be feeding me a beer or two :D ). Rob's a hell of a good man doing good work, and I wish him the best; he was a victim here, not a player.

Guys, the lesson is this: cover your collective arses, because no one else will.

A lesson learned, for me and I hope others.
