Kangaroo Photos wanted
 

I need Kangaroo photos!!! (all you Aussies, sit down!)
An upcoming Weapons of War booklet will cover the topic of the Ram Kangaroo and I need good photos/scans as well as photo references at Canada's Public Archives.
To explain fully, I have, thanks to Bill Miller, son of a WWII 1 CACR vet, a large number of quality photos from the Bovington Tank Museum. The problem is that BTM charges 20 Pounds for the right to reproduce 'their' photos. Many of these BTM photos are also available from the Public Archives and I need their "PA" number so that I can order the Canadian print and reproduce these without charge.
I also welcome private photos and any other photos that are in the public domain.
As usual, a photo credit and a complimentary copy of the finished book are offered as a thank you.

There is a great picture of a kangaroo on page 49 of “Den Bosch, Bevochten en bevrijd; October 1944” (= Fought for and liberated).
Luc van Gent, the author of the book, states that the picture is from the Imperial War Museum (no frame-number given). I think the picture is great, not only because of the composition (CT 160141 on a bendy sand-track) but also because it was taken during the liberation of my place of birth.
Because I don’t want to violate copyright I have added a selection of the picture with some text inserted just to give you an idea.

There are also some nice pictures on British Pathe. I will post some frame-numbers later if you're interested.
This probably won't win me a free copy but best of luck with your new book.

What War Diary?, I was using the book: "THE CANADIAN KANGAROOS IN WORLD WAR II, THE STORY OF 1st CANADIAN ARMOURED CARRIER REGIMENT, CANADA'S FOREIGN-BORN SECRET REGIMENT", by Kenneth R. Ramsden - page 142 (RHLI - "A" Sqn - 13 Apr 45) and page 147 (A&SH of C - "B" Sqn - 11 Apr 45). :p

No luck in contacting Taylor but Ed is a good friend and doesn't live that far. He provided a CD with several usable images.

Interesting that you should mention that, but it got me thinking and I remembered that there was a box of paper that someone had sent me.... :D.... anyways, to make a long story short, the 'main' diary (for April 1945) for the 11th and 13th does confirm the "A" (RHLI) and "B" (A&SH of C) Sqn lifts, but unfortunately, Appendix 'A' and 'B' (which give broader details) of the diary for April 1945 are missing.

Help me out Geoff, what was the name of the film I mentioned a while back that had the kangaroos loaded up and running through a town? Patton? Battle of the bulge?

Patton, IIRC. I don't have a copy so can't verify. If Mike Dorosh is here... Mike, what was the film you grabbed that capture from? Jeez, my brain is rotting...

It's a Kangaroo named "ARMADILLO", but I'm not sure it it's 1CACR or 49APC.

I think it's British, judging by this picture sold on eBay in October 2001, showing "British tanks on way to Cleve".

From memory the sequency in "Patton" looked the same, anyway.

Label on rear shows photo details of this British official photo, including caption "British tanks roll through the shell-wrecked German town of Kranenburg on the road to Cleve". Back of photograph also bears a red ink stamp that says PM FILE FEBRUARY 14, 1945.

It could very well be 1 CACR, notice the WD Number prefix in the lower right hand corner (attached image) is "CT".

Hard to say, though.... if the Ram was taken out of Canadian holding stocks and shipped to the newly forming 49APCR, they might well have never painted out the "C". I'll see if I can verify this.

In examining quite a few photos recently I have oly seen the "Kangaroo in a triangle", shown on the hull, on a 49th Kang. The 1CACR seem to have kept to the "Kangaroo in a circle" logo.
