Holden/Chevrolet Truck arrives at Home
 

G'Day All,

My truck arrived home today on the back of a UD tilt truck. Photos coming soon. The only issue was that the driver's side rear wheel has seized and is locked solid. Any clues for a possible cause of a locked rear wheel and a solution?

Once daylight returns I will examine the ID plates and post these up on the site - with photos of the truck.

The amazing thing is that the headlights have the original glass intact and front windscreen and two side windows are in mint condition. One the quarter vent glass is missing and so too is the complete rear window; rubber seal, any framework, glass and all. I have is a hole where the window used to be. The stop light at the back has a prefect lens and the parking lights on the front wheel guards are mint too.

There is a small lift up lever on the gearstick lever would this mean a two-speed differential? It is so good to have the truck home & my wife is still talking to me!

The lever on the gear stick is to open the reverse gate to get it in gear when required and not by accident.

I look forward to seeing photos of your truck and the upcoming restoration.
A locked brake is usually the reason that a wheel won't turn. Try backing off the brake shoe adjusters & see if it will turn. (It most likley will not). Step two is quite complicated & involves a lot of hammer work with a bloody big hammer... Good luck! :bang:
The missing window is the least of your problems as any glass retailer will be able to cut the new glass to any shape & most should be able to supply the rubber retainer/seal. :teach:
The lever on the gearstick is a reverse-lock-out device to prevent accidental engagement of reverse. Lifting the lever will allow the selector to move far enough across to engage reverse. :thup2:
As for the wife, it is good to know she is still talking to you, but, you can be sure that will change. :fry:

Here are a couple of photographs of my truck arriving. I could only work out how to do this as an attachement. Any clues about getting them in as thumbnails as lots of you have managed to do?

Last two photos for now.

Thanks for the tips about the gear lever and about the locked wheel. I did the same thing with hammers on brake drums when I had an EH Holden back in the 1980s and that was just ship loads of fun! Now I have multiply that effort up to truck size :bang:

G'day All,

I could not resist putting in a photo of the condition of my tray. The bed is totalled while the main cross frame parts are in pretty good condition - bar one.

At the front of the tray there are two gearwheels with one having a crank handle. The gear is connected to a shaft which has wire rope around it. As you turn the crank the wire rope winds down or up. Would this have been for lowering and raising the spare wheel?

the tray isnt original Lionel.

It's a post WW2 made up tray. You will have to study the AWM pics if you want to restore it as per its WW2 appearance .But thats up to you .

Lucky for you, you have another truck of the same model.
