Oil Cans?

2 Attachment(s)
Can anyone ID these 2 oil cans, and what they were used with. Have been told the green one is for a Champ, but sure this is wrong and is in fact WW2 vintage. Believe the black one is Post WW2?
I only have the photos, not the cans, so can provide no more info.
Rich.

oil can

Hi Richard,
I sure the round can is a vickers oil can with a cap that turns in to a funnel.

Hi Richard,

I believe the round can to be a Ferret oil can. Have one with my Ferret. Have a look at the attachments obtained from Ferret-FV701 website.

Attachment 40809 Attachment 40810

Possibly also used on other vehicles but no knowledge of that.

Cheers,

Thanks Euan,
have checked Vickers Oil cans out using my ever helpful Research Assistant (Ms. Google), these appear to come in 2 sizes, both square, like this one currently on E-Bay:

Marc,
Hoping you are on the money, as I have a round bracket on the inside wheel arch of my Humber that appears to be same size. I knew that the Ferret had a "Convetional" plunger type oil can, that there were 2 different oil cans is news to me. Thinking on the fly, would these have been used for oiling the 2 speed generator? FFW Humbers were fitted with these, bracket is mounted about a foot away from the geni., and would explain why some trucks have them, but most do not (thought they had just been robbed).
This could well be case solved. Thank you.

Now, how about the other one?
Rich

The big one

is just a standard ww2 oil tin as found on the back of a riveted carrier or the side of a cmp. There is a Canadian one with the broad arrow inside the "C" pressed into the top. and a slightly different one (British?) the Canadian one has "G.S.W." with the year eg. "1942" pressed in the bottom, inside a circle.
I have one with "SAE 30 OIL" painted on the side. size approx. 120x145x280mm.

Thanks Lynn, definatly not post war!
Although 30 wt. oil is the oil of choice for the Rolls Royce "B" range of motors.
Rich.

Hi All,
Here is a picture of a 1 Gallon oil can I picked up last summer with the markings still on it.Not sure of this small screw on spout,it came with the can but have never seen a reference picture of one before so not sure it belongs?
Regards,Derk.

Strange cap....

Hi Derk

I have never seen that kind of cap on a one gallon oil can.... it should have the usual cast/machined heavy brass cap with a little chain tied to the tab shown just below the current cap.....

Last time I saw 2 of them for sale in a Burlington militaria show, they were asking $80 each.... I sneezed and they were both gone...

Bob
