No more Toole's?

An integral part of the Corowa experience is the Pilgrimage to Toole's Disposals in Wodonga, which has in recent years been expanded by Bill Toole to an "Open Door" visit to his warhouse crammed full of stock. Until a few years ago, it was also the done thing to pick through Bill's brother's shop, North Eastern Truck Wreckers for ex-Mil vehicle parts, until that business closed due to retirement.
I have been speaking with Bill, and he has told me that the shop in Wodonga is likely to be sold. It has been on the market for some time, and he has recently received a good offer. Bill will be remaining in business through wholesale activities and online through e-bay, but the "retail" side of his business will finish on 30 June this year, or sooner if the shop sells. As he will be keeping his warehouse, there is not likely to be a closing-down auction, but to reduce his moving costs, he would like to talk to you about anything you're interested in in the shop!

This will be your last Corowa event to be able to visit Aladdin's, er, I mean Toole's Disposals, so bring your money and spend up while you can.

A Corowa special offer

This year I'm bundling all previous DVDs into one lot - that's 6 DVDs for $120 and have prepared a flyer. This will be available at the event - either see me or someone at the official HQ. The new DVD is the seventh and is available individually.

Hi Mark

They're standard PAL DVD. There are two reasons for this - one is most people still don't have the capacity to play Blu-ray disks (and we don't have the equipment to do so either) - it's a demand thing.
The other reason is the second camera we're still using is widescreen standard definition.

The DVD being shot for this year is the same situation.

In the past I have also made some NTSC versions but with demand for these being miniscule it is not a viable option, although having said that the next one focusing on Jeeps may have a wider appeal.

Corowa Airport

I see Corowa Airport is in the news, after hosting a recent Autofest event for the second time, there are now talks of making changes and improving the facilities there to be able to hold more similar events including drag racing. Might be good for future Corowa Swim-In events with the entries increasing every year.

Lang 05-03-10 22:43

Jan,

Richard has a good post re the Motorfest. Why don't you include a drag race for various classes of military vehicles.

The judges would need to be issued with calendars to time the vehicles over the 200m distance.

Registrations so far

Hi Everyone

I have just gotten home from Corowa, I have to work a couple of more days :(, anyway there was a 120mm of rain over night and by 6 o'clock tonight we have had 66 vehicles booked in... The first year that I went there was only 100 in total by the end of the week, Ball park is filling fast and the airport does look a little like a lake. :)

Later today

I'll be heading off later today laden with 2009 DVDs and camera gear for the 2010 YOTJ, so prepare to be interviewed!

Looking forward to this one, there should be lots of nice muddy bogs around for some action shots. I'll have Richard with me for Saturday with a second camera. Looking forward to it:thup2:

Dukw

Hi Guys

I see that there is evidence of Tony's arrival at corowa:-)

The Dukw is on its way, should be there by Midnight, I should ge there about 9.00 tomorrow night.

About 145 vehicles have booked in by tonight.

I just need to write a list and pack, the Jeep is ready to go and the traile ris loaded.

Tim :)

Keith Webb 10-03-10 21:30

I'm here!

Last night interviewed Ganmain Tony, went for a drive with him and had a go myself. Tony has done a really nice job with the cab 12 and it drives nicely. He has discovered however how useful rubber sealing around the windscreen would be - the splash from the rather large puddle he drove through was nicely sluiced through all over him! Now he has to find somewhere to wash it :smoker:

dougsarmour 10-03-10 21:31

On my way

Getting on the bike today (apologies no truck this year)
See you all tomorrow early
Helping on the registrations desk from 8.30am Friday / tomorrow / all day
Have your registration / identification papers ready if you are staying at the caravan park for checking by military police unit

Corowa 2010

Seems there was over 260 entries this year. The weather held out to be a perfect clear sky with a max temp of 26 degrees celsius.

Seems everyone had a ball.

I would like to thank the committee for another great event. Well done.

I am looking forward to reading the comments & seeing the pictures on the forum.

So it's now opening up for the Year of the Pommy Vehicle. Obviously every vehicle entered will require an auto electricain with the CES......

BRING IT ON

another great event over, good crowd well behaved, no major drama,s. congratulations to the committee. got home this afternoon, 730mile plus running around the c15 averaged 13 mpg, happy with that. Clevo found that the new paint was soft enough to get a good grip on.

Jean and I had a great time catching up with friends and family!

531km home without a problem, Jean drove the Jeep and myself the Dodge. She reckons her new nickname should be 'sayo' as in the biscuit, all dried out after two days with the roof down.

As for the event, great to see so many vehicles again this year. Nice to see you there Bob.

Jan Thompson 15-03-10 11:36

We ended up with a total of 266 vehicles at Corowa this year. I will post a complete list up in the next day or two. There were 179 Jeeps. I originally thought we might get 200 Jeeps but unfortunately a few had to pull out. There is always a number of people who preregister and are unable to attend and many who don't preregister who wish they did so once realising that the package they received was great value for money.

Each pack had a copy of the Entry Form for 2011 and it was great to see a number of people have completed the form and returned it to us at Corowa. If you want to ensure you are booked in for next year you can send your form in anytime.

Thanks to those people who helped us this year. We have gained a few more KVE members which hopefully will lighten the load of work. Colin and Joy Morley have offered to put together the participant packs for 2011 which is great.
