Can someone tell me how or why you would use a ferret for this?

1 funeral vehicle

The Artillery will use a gun to transport a casket for a funeral, the armoured corps will use an armoured vehicle. Likely the ferret would have a rack on the back to support a casket.

Here in Shilo we have a 25 pdr with a special rack that goes on the barrel to support the casket. I found a second funeral kit laying out in the dustbowl....not sure where it ever went.

Thanks! I knew about the artillery guns being used, never thought about vehicles

MK II ferret

When I was on the mission to packup the airborne to return them to canada may-june 1983.
There was a MK II ferret complete with turret sitting on the side of the runway infront of a sea container (war trophy?).
I asked where it was going and was told that it was going to the RCD's in pettawa.

Hey Rob see you are from the arm pit, do you know what is happening with the Gregg collection in Shilo. The last time I was there it was a mess
Stew
PS sorry to change the subject.

Gregg collection is doing fine these days. The odd one is on display at the main museum building and the remainder are all indoors at the old RCHA maint building. If you call ahead you can usually arrange a visit to see them.

Thanks for the listing Marc.

Funeral Vehicle Ferret

One Ferret at the LdSH(RC) was modified with a trailer hitch to pull a funeral gun (a 25 pdr with a cut down gunshield and a rack for the coffin). I have no idea if it was used for its intended purpose prior to becoming a monument, but it sat in Martin Park in Calgary for 20-odd years before we resurrected it. The Regiments last running Centurion was placed in the park with a Ferret on either side. All three are now running as part of the Strathcona Historical Vehicle Troop. The first Ferret and Centurion were re-commissioned in 1994/5 and the other Ferret around 1999.

We used the Ferret once for a funeral of a Strathcona officer in 1995 or 1996 in Calgary. I think the 25 pdr funeral gun was a 1 bde asset. It replaced Jack Guthrie's FAT (now at the CWM) because it ran like a POS.

I have heard tell of such an arrangement of the Ferret towing the gun with a casket on top before, as yet no one has posted pictures of that.

I cant wait until I figure out the CFR of c/s 31 and get some in service pictures of it.
