Let's hope the rain stops by then. The Autofest held at the end of February has been cancelled this year.
The Jump Shak at Corowa Airport was flooded last week. Tim Scriven might be able to give us further details on this. |

Corowa
I just got home from Corowa you could have landed a Catalina on the strip yesterday with the wheels up. It poured up there Saturday and they have had the wettest Febuary on record. The usual vehicle assembly spot at the airfield had 100mm of water over it. Sure hope it dries up before the big event.

Wet
You mean one 'o these?
http://gallery.mac.com/oldcmp.net/10...12648845300001 Crikey that's wet! Still, it means plenty of fun in the mud for those who enjoy that sort of spectacle. |
Drive on Friday the 18th March
Howdy all,
Part of the events for Corowa, that KVE has planned, includes a drive out to an iconic Shearing Shed on North Tuppal Station. The 'Shed' is located 30km's west of Tocumwal. Tim Scrivens and myself went and checked it out to meet the owners and to generally see whether it was worth checking out. The answer is, very much yes..It is an astonishing structure and takes some time to have a good look at. The owners are going to give us a guided tour as well and explain its history. Additional good news is despite all the rain, the roads are in excellent shape and it will be a pleasant trip. Should take us about 2 hours (By Blitz) to get there from Ball Caravan Park. Estimated departure time 8:30 in the morning 10:30 arrival, check out shed till 12 - 12:30. Just a heads up for anyone keen to see a piece of Australias great agricultural heritage while we're down that way for the week. |

The trip to North Tuppal is on Friday 18th March. For those who are interested you can visit Chrysties Motor Museum in the afternoon. We can stop for lunch in Tocumwal and Tim has spoken to the owner of the museum and obtained some brochures so if you are interested we will have them available on the day. The address for the Motor Museum is Lot 66 Thorburns Rd, Tocumwal. There are a number of signs in town and it only costs $2 per person.

FRIDAY

Willys V Ford Cricket Match
Friday 18th 4pm In the interests of entertainment and all things good I am organising a Big Bash cricket match at the Corowa Oval (Next to Ball Park) on Friday the 18th from 4pm untill around 6pm. The winners will have their team name engraved onto a WW2 water flask containing the sacred ashes of a Jeep Manual. Non-jeepers, cricket novices and specators are more than welcome. See the attached file and I hope to see a few of you there! Chris |
Thanks Chris.
Just a little reminder that on Friday evening at the Corowa Jump shak from 6.30 is the Gourmet BBQ. Following the meal will be a parade briefing at 7.30 and then we now have 2 guest speakers. The first will be Mike Stallwood from the UK giving a talk on his purchase of 16 Stuart Tanks followed by a talk by hugh Davis and Alan Carpenter on the trip from Qld to Alice Springs in 2010. |
Hi Jan,
No problem, The match will be done and dusted (with the Willys team victorious) by 6pm so ppl can go to both or whatever. |
tocumwal
I'll be heading through there tomorrow on my way to corowa. Hmm. Might be a bit late though to bump into anyone. I'll keep my eye out for Blitz's. :)

First pics
These are frame grabs from the video I have shot.
Not sure what the official number was but it was somewhere in the vicinity of 192 vehicles all up. http://idisk.me.com/oldcmp.net/Publi...320-084309.jpg The event was not without it's share of fun - here's a pic of the Mack in deep. http://idisk.me.com/oldcmp.net/Publi...320-084351.jpg And a Landrover. http://idisk.me.com/oldcmp.net/Publi...320-084620.jpg This Dodge had an unfortunate incident in a large stretch of water when the fan turned into a propeller and went into the radiator. http://idisk.me.com/oldcmp.net/Publi...320-084721.jpg Even the British tracked carrier needed a tow start, with Richard's trusty Humber flexing it's muscles. http://idisk.me.com/oldcmp.net/Publi...320-084909.jpg A crowd favourite was Jack and Jake Neville's freshly restored Marmon-Herrington No3A artillery tractor with limber and 25 pounder. http://idisk.me.com/oldcmp.net/Publi...320-084941.jpg |

Rotowhero
Where does that name come from? Roto = inner, inside, or lake.
Whero is red as in colour. "The Red Centre? A Maori named truck relating to the middle of Australia. Is there a story behind that name on the Chev? |
Also some short snippets on Youtube, Saracen drive, Stalwart on the move and the Hummer finally getting the tank to tow start.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTuYv_yWmEs My thanks as always to the organising crew. I missed the MLU get together as well. My tip for next year, do not share a small room with world class snorers. Finally got an hours sleep in the back of the Humber, but was asleep on my feet by lunchtime. So it was home to bed. STILL feeling sorry for myself.... Rich. |
I manned the KVE tent at the airport to meet people but still mised most it seams :bang:
|
Excuse
How could we not forgive you that? An excellent excuse.
