My major purchase of radio stuff today

5 Attachment(s)
I needed a couple of antennas and mounts for a museum project, and found we were running out. My own collection of these was also almost exhausted. So I headed out to my favorite scrapyard today in search of radio stuff. I collected abotu 25 lower antenna elements as well as about 15 upper antenna elements. Then I was allowed in to a container that I had seen radio stuff in before. It would seem CFB Wpg had sent a lot of the headsets, handsets, cables, AMUs, junction boxes, etc as scrap. There appears to be stuff primarily from the 524 sets as well as 25 set stuff. I saw the word "vincent" on a ocupel items as well. I quickly tired from pulling the stuff out from the shed, and the back of the truck was full. But there are several more loads of stuff to come yet....hundreds of various headsets, and god knows what else is on the bottom rows of bins.

I am not a radio nut. I like to have an antenna on my restored vehicles, and a radio in place, but I really am not concerned if the radios ever operates or not. But I know some of you are radio nuts. There are a lot of things here I never dealt with in my service career, so I wouldn't mind IDing some of it.

So without further delay, some photos of today's haul.

More shots of bins of stuff. As well some trays and antenna mounts I picked up from in the field. It is getting near the end of these. Kolten has dibs on four of the adapter plates.

Here are some shots of some antenna kits. They have the old 19 set/C42 type copper antennas in them which is why I grabbed them. They also each some with a long tape measure, and some little reels of steel cable. I am guessing these were used with a sputnik type mast?

As well, some shots of the antennas I picked up from the fields. Still a few more out there...I am going to need more for all these AMUs. There were at leas a half dozen of the AMUs which were brand new. There are another 3 or 4 that still have the valcom paper tags on them.

Can anyone tell me what those short antenna "masts" are all about? I got about 5 of them. I think one will go on one of the corners of my 5/4 van box.

Much of this stuff will be available for sale or trade eventually. Way more here than I need. But for now it will get sorted and filed away in the shed.

Way more to be found out there. The really good stuff is always at the bottom/back of the pile.

Wow!

You have the right friends, are in the right place, and have the right resources (ie knowledge and funds).

Good haul!

Nice haul Rob. I see a couple of interesting items.

Rob

put me down for antennas and antenna bases! Quick guess would be 8-10 units!

Should still leave you about a hundred!

I am short of antennas, having only found about 25 lowers and 15 upper elements. But there were about 30 or 35 of the AMUs, so we are good there. Hopefully I will make it out there again in the next few weeks and will scour the fields for more antenna tops.

Sounds like you are of the same taste as I am. I like the look of the antennas, but don't always want the room sucking trouble of the radios and all their cables.

Prc 77 cables needed

Cg-1773 cable. 18 feet long. Cg_ 4722 amu power cable. 18 feet long and a. Cx-4655 power cable. I'm putting a an/Vrc 64 set into a Iltis. I'm a ex jimmy from 1 sigs in Calgary. The 4655 is hard to find and the others I got to short. Thanks for any help. Rob

I only got one tote of odd cables at this point, but I am pretty sure there will be a whole bunch more. I'll check what I have against your list and see.

comms stuff

Rob,
Hope I get the photos right.
The last set of photos are MX-6707 AMU's (and some I don't recognize) and the two pieces antenna sections (AS-1730/VRC bottoms and AS-1095/VRC tops for the RT-524. To the left of the green "disc" shape is the wire assembly that runs between the RT-524 and the remote handset assembly.
Bin of S-250/U handsetsand M80/U mikes for RT-524 and PRC-77. Webbing is ST-138/PRC25 for carrying the PRC-77, bin of the "one" sided headsets for the PRC-77 or CPRC-26/CPRC-510 as I can't make out the connector if they are 5 inline pins or the circular type, the mast is for the C42 AMU which mounts on the spare tire mount on the M38A1. The radio adapters(?) under this mount, I think are for the M151, not sure.
For your 5/4 ton, the AMU mounts next to the mast type are what go on these trucks. I have a couple for the 5/4 ton cages.
Very nice acquistion.
Ian

Managed to get into the bin of cables tonight. I have 4 or 5 of the 4655 cables.

There were a couple more junction boxes hiding in the bottom of that bin. I'll try and get some shots in a day or two.

short mast

the short mast is part of the early box style AMU and take a different lower mast section,

wire antennas

I would be interested in those tape measure and wire spool antennas in the top left corner of the thumbnails

tks

John

Afraid someone else from the opposite direction to you has expressed interest in all 4 or 5 sets. Will advise if he changes his mind.

Ide be interested in a external speaker , controll box, and cable. To extend my an/ Vrc 64 set. I'll get back to you on numbers in a few days. Only if you come across them again. What a true treasure trove you have there.

Hey Ian I'm Rob Cooper from Wetaskiwin area. I hear you are the radio guru. I'm a ex Jimmy from 1984 era. I served 1 sigs when they were in Calgary. I'm building my mid life crisis a Iltis. Just wand to say hello. Yes all the numbers look like they mean something we used the an/Vrc 12 era stuff back then. Rob
