Grant idlers?
Hello All,
I recently found these two wheels,I think they are for a Grant, Can anyone confirm or tell me otherwise. They are NOS and are both dated 1942. one is made by US tyre, the other made by Dayton rubber mfg co. the size on both of them is 20x9x16. There appears to be a part no. on them both of C66470. Thanks in advance. Justin. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...c/IMG_1959.jpg |
Wheels
Definably stuart tank boggie rollers justin

Definately not Stuart, they use a 20 x 6 x 16. The ones you have fit Grant, Sherman and M4 HST. Pity they are the other side of the world!

Road Wheels, not Idlers
Hi Justin,
Grant roadwheels. I could sure use them, but spondooly is limited at moment. Probably just a typo cos I think you mean Dayton rather than Drayton. Also were made by BF Goodrich and Firestone (that I know of). Regards Alex -- M3 Grant, Valentine, WM20 BSA, Ferrets. |
Thanks for the info Fellas,
Alex,yes its a typo,i,ll fix it now. Justin. |
Grant wheels
I don't know who or how many companies fabricated these wheels or rollers but they were made in a bit of a hurry. I've encountered different internal diameter (the centre) and fairly rough machining not that it affects their role in any way. Also the centre spacers that clamp between the bearing inner races - I've seen some nicely machined all over and some just round bar still with mill scale bored out for the axle bolt and faced off to correct length.
I've also heard that the inner spacers vary slightly in length and if they get mixed up the twin ball race bearings at each end can nip up which isn't good. Later roadwheels of the Sherman type I think had tapered rollers. Regards Alex |
Hello All,
I,m happy to trade these for carrier parts, esp LP2/2A parts. If theres no interest i,ll be listing them on ebay soon. regards Justin. |
They look like my Sexton road wheels. The same sloppy manufacturing. All welded. Splatter everywhere. The gussets not evenly spaced. Mine are all Good year, made in Canada in 44. I finished painting mine today. Jesse.

Gentlemen, if you decide to come to some arrangement I would be happy to pick them up when I finally get to Justin's place to drop carrier bits, pick up a Landy bit and bring the grant wheels b :thup with me to WA for Alex. As long as you can both be patient as my travel plans are not yet set in concrete...
Also Alex, I thought where you live you just have to dig around the petunia patch and pull out a nugget orr two when you need some 'spondooley' ? Cheers :thup2: Phill |
