Maps of World War 2 Battles involving Canadian Soldiers

Dear Folks,

I have found a good web site for military maps, at the US Military Academy at West Point. I have found very very few other websites with this type of information. The USMA are fabulous maps but typically only show where U.S. Troops were positioned, deployed, and their progress through the various battles in the World Wars. On the very very few other sites where I have seen something resembling Battle Maps of World War 2, they either show German positions and deployments or British positions, & deployements and or progress for one battle or so but they are nowhere near as well done as those at the US Military Academy.

Does anyone know where I could find clear, legible, Battle Maps for both World War 1 & World War 2 that show Canadian Units positions, deployments, and progress throughout these wars. If there are no web sites does anyone know of any good books that show this information. For an Example of what I mean see the links below I just want a Canadian Version.

Thanks For any Help you can give pointing me in the right direction.
Gregg

Gregg,

Chris Johnson makes wonderful maps. See his website for some examples and a list of books with his illustrations.

Hope this helps,
regards,
Hanno

Cdn maps

The books done by CP Stacey ( offical history of the canadian army) have very good maps in them which show very clearly units that were in action such as D Day. I think there where about 4 books in total.

Hi PGregg
I served with the 48th Highlanders from 1939 to 1945. I was a corporal with the pioneer platoon assault section and unfortunately our platoon officer stepped on a mine so I was given his maps of our positions until we were able to get a replacement. I kept the map all these years because it was the last action I was in during the war. If you would like to see a copy I would be happy to e-mail a copy to you. It has the original coded positions written in ink. The map is approximatel 24 x 30 inches and is too large to scan in a scanner so I would have to photograph it with my digital camera.

Hi Norm may I get a copy of the map via email. Also on the subject of the assault section. How was it organized and employed? I am curious and would appreciate any insight you have on the tactical use of the Pioneer platoon.

My email is michaelpeter@sympatico.ca

Hello
I am reading one of CP Stacey's books now. I will let you know how it is in the future.

I would also like a copy of the maps if it is at all possible. They would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hello
C.P.Stacey's book was.
The 1/2 million(the canadians in Britain 1939-1946).
This is a book of stats and what the Canadians did and where they stayed, about their hard times .
Not what I was looking for but overall interesting.
Jim
