Not mine and although I live close, I have no connection to anyone involved.

I know who the seller is. Not related no financial interest.

I was at Rideau Auctions when he bought them I think. If they are the same ones they are less than perfect and were training aides at the end of the life.

I think was a VW orginal and not the Bombardier produced one. So if so then someone should hop skip and jump on down and buy it quick sharp, I cant contribute as I am all tapped out right now, OMVA show yesterday ya know

Iltis for sale

I went and saw them last Sunday, overall the condition of them was fair to poor, 3 had missing engines. There were no roofs or roof frames. There was a lot of rust and a lot of missing engine parts. I figure you could build 4 or 5 out of the 10. The vehicles were stored outside with no protection and were full of snow. I could not tell how bad the floors were rotted or rusted, all the windshields were smashed and have to be replaced.
One was a prototype, it looked like a Bombardier Iltis as it had the Cdn front grill but the rest was German and had a lot of extra switches and was different in quite a few aspects. It had a gas engine. Museums were interested to have it but for tax receipes, no cash.
I negotiated a price of $7500 for the 10 plus the HST and the transport. I told him that I intended to register them and he told me that as a dealer he could probably get the registration, at least he would try, of course this was extra.
When he sent me a copy of the invoice he marked on it "for off-road use only" when I asked him why he put that on the bill he said the it was in accordance with the OMVIC regulations. According to Stuart, these vehicles were sold at the Rideau auction and I figure he "off-road " was marked on their invoice. The guy told me he'd had them for close to 10 years. I then told him if that was on the bill there was no way Services Ontario would give me permission to put them on the road and he should have told me that As a result of this, the deal fell through.
These vehicles were used as training aids and for various tests with aircraft????Robin they are the ones you mention in your post.
In hindsight, if was not a bad price but a lot of work and a long time before you can recoup your money.

Gilles,

I am not going to get into a mudslinging match but there are ways to solve some of the problems you have quoted legally.

I know him and can apply some pressure if you want to contact me off line about it.

This is a public forum and I am not discussing it here

The Oshawa Ferret Club is claiming on Facebook that they bought the lot. Maybe they have a way around the registration situation Gilles encountered.

Yes, we bought the lot. And they are a bit rough. AFAIK, the plan is to get one or two restored and sell the others for parts.

Iltis

Gents ,

Good luck restoring an interesting , nimble , historicly significant canadian military vehicle.

They have carried the day for many , many of our veterans and heroes.

They are also fun to drive !
