What is this? Toggle rope ladder device?
 

Hey guys,
Picked this up today, not knowing what it is, but out of curiosity. Its been suggested it could be some sort of device to hook toggle ropes into to make a rope ladder or that its some part of a gun?
Anyone have any ideas?

I have one of those too. It was sold to me as a WW2 British ladder step used, like you say, with the toggle rope. All very rare, airborne and commando (he said).

I'm curious to see if anyone knows what it really is.

By consulting a copy of the Vocabulary of Ordnance Stores and looking up stock code AE 0154 and you will find out what the item is.

Now identified but how is it used?

as I understand it, it was used as a fireing step. The togglerope, or a number of them would be attached to a suitable position and then the sniper could elevate himself up onto a fireing position by standing on the metal step. The toggle rope in the ebay add is too thin. John.

Awkward to get on and awkward to get off, it seems to be a fairly useless item as both feet would have to arrive at exactly the same time unlike any ladder arrangement Ive ever encountered. Either it's a folly or there is more to the story.

I am trying to find out more about the toggle rope step, as I also have one in my collection.

Can you please advise what information is given in the Vocabulary of Ordnance Stores, ref. AE 0154 ?
