RCA 19 set

Just wondering what this stuff is worth , I purchased it at
an estate sale ,said it had been in storage indoors heated since 1947 Would like a price over wholesale but under retail, anybody have an idea?? Thanks Terry |
Hello Terry.
Basically a nice looking item, though some accessories are missing, a couple may not belong to the set itself and it’s hard to tell from the photos but the morse key socket looks like it might have a broken key plug sticking out of it. Pricing it will depend on how complete it is internally and if it works. A general rule of thumb is the lowest price goes for a set that looks complete externally but does not work at all. These are usually just wanted by someone to either fill a hole in a collection, or a vehicle. Price goes up if the set looks good externally and at least the intercom circuit still works. These sets are needed by AFV collectors who plan to operate their vehicles. To do so, they must have a working communications system among the crew members to operate the vehicle safely. At the top of the scale is a good looking 19-Set that is fully operational. It will fit in any of the other two categories but with a licensed amateur radio operator on hand, it is the sort of thing at a vehicle or military show, kids line up for hours to ‘work the set’. That’s about all I can say at this point, Terry, other than to add these sets are heavy to ship and that can influence pricing, or the willingness to purchase. David |
Thanks for the information, I would like to sell this and it may
be better thn it looks. I was told it has been stored for a few years in dry and warm basement! Terry |
A set like that can bring around $1000 but on the other hand I bought a working complete set off ebay for $100. I guess it's a matter of what you can get for it!

The box on top is a Fullerphone, not used with a ws19. The headset & mic look to be from a remote control unit as they are separated items. The aerial is from something else.
On the plus side it looks to be a fairly good truck setup. The handles allow for dismount use. All the basics are there such as control box, variometer, cables and most important, the grills. They can be pricey themselves. As suggested it's not something you can pop into the mail. P/U will restrict buyers. Perhaps attend a local militaria show and bring it along. Having sat for a time it will need some care in powering up. Have a look at ebay sold prices. They can give you an idea of value but usually at the higher end. |
Thanks for the advice , I will post it for sale soon!

Don't even think about applying power to the power supply or the radio as the electrolyte paper capacitors have a nasty habit of drying out. which can short out and all the magic smoke will disappear making the radio a boat anchor.
The capacitors might be able to be reformed or possibly be replaced to bring the radio back to life. Here is a list of the parts that would finish the radio. Easy to find items. 2 headsets No. 8 or 10 breast plate for mic Lamp operator no 6 Key and plug assy no 9 aerial base no 9 za 10322 aerial rod G Aerial rods F Aerial dummy za/can 0677 Case spare valves Case spare parts Connector coax set a/b # 10/11 Hard or impossible to find parts Water proof cover for no 23 base (getting hard to find) grommet rubber no 23 for F rod (Ultra rare) cover variometer no 16 (very rare) Battery boxes, original's near impossible to find but repros are being made. |
Thanks for the information. I will not fire this up as I am not a radio tech type.
I want to sell it to a good home where it will get checked out and used. Thanks Terry |

Grommet no 23

Found the pics. Somewhere I have a drawing I did of the grommet, will look for it.

Ohh.... that's what they are for!
I need to do some digging... I did have something like that once. Tim |
Grommets No.23, I think.
I could do with one for my setup if you find any. Chris. |
Grommet # 23

Since I seem to be the only one that has an original grommet # 23. I am going to see about reproducing the grommet.
The local industrial supply shop has the materials to make the silicon mold and the rubber castering material but it will cost around $130. Anyone interested in a grommet.I would have to make about 10 to break even. |
I would be interested in a few of the grommets.

Hi Roberta.
Put me down for one, please. David |
Two for me (if you get enough interest), please!
Chris. |
4 for me please
John |
if this is simply a casting issue, I could replicate these for you if you wish Roberta, I am already remaking the B set antenna bases which appear to be far more complex than this item.
let me know if you don't get sorted with your contact. Cheers Richie |
