Casting foundry sought
I have a limited run brass casting job to be done.
Has anyone used anyone in Ontario that they can recommend please? thanks in advance |
There are two thoughts to your problem. First is contact the fine art department at the local university. They probably have a sculptor who would know where brasses and bronzes are poured. One offs are not something a production shop will take on. Second is to ask at a sailboat marina. Small sailboats sometimes have fittings and devices that are cast. Most will come out of a catalogue, but there may be custom providers for the specialty builders.

When one of the forum members wanted to have a part copied from out my way, a quick google found 2 companies in Winnipeg that do short runs or one offs. In the end, they did a stellar job at a very reasonable price.
Check the yellow pages? |
I believe (but not 100% certain) that Lee Valley Tools used a foundry in Merrickville to make their house number plaques. These weren't brass and aren't listed on their web site this morning so the supplier may no longer exist.... Confirmation needed.

Thank you for all the replies and thoughts.
I am in contact with Karl at Alloy Foundry in Merrickville. I will let you know what transpires as we go forward. I would say, that I suspected they would be the answer but I just don't presume anything anymore, we have a lot of resources available to us these days, as I found out when I was looking for a black oxide coating company. What was the catch phrase? "Film at eleven". |
Any Amish that far north? Our go to in this region is an Amish foundry in south easter Pennsylvania. But that's this side of the border and won't help you. I think they only do small runs.

Matt
I might ask you one day to take my master to them for an estimate at some time if that is possible The postal and courier systems are still crossing the border |
Robin,
You may not have to post it to me at all. Here's a bit of information on them. I personally haven't ordered any castings yet. But I know others who have including my father. And the process was just as described in the link here. Mail them the pattern with the type of metal and quantity desired and a while later get the pattern and castings back along with an invoice. http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/FoundrySources.ashx Matt |
