Ferret Design Info
 

I am dealing with the DMV here in MN, who don't like my Canadian Ferret. The stubborn Scot in my head likes a fight, but I need more ammo.

Looking for any documents that discuss the design for and utilization of the ferret on roads.

I would suggest a copy of the operators manual pages showing the drivers controls with notations to be a fairly powerful document considering everything is laid out right there. That shows the manufacturers intent for it's use.

What other document are thinking would aid your request to register the vehicle for the road?

Did you ever set up "dropbox" for me on those other documents?

I've looked in Equipment Management Policy Statement No.159. Ferret Scout Cars All Marks. Aug.1980 & it gives no particular reference to road use.

Looking at an FVDE (predates FVRDE) Report of a Users Meeting with Daimler (predating the Ferret name & even Fieldmouse) on 11/11/48 for ASC FV701, it gives specs for road use as well cross country driving. But I wouldn't think there is anything extra that isn't in the UHB, although this does go right back to original spec.

What's this about an armoured car? You realize it is a 196? two-seat, Daimler convertible, 6-cylinder, green in colour? It came from the factory like that, with no seat belts, no front windshield or wipers, a meep-meep horn, left and right turns, and a tepid licence plate light (or not).

Just kidding - the question about road speed should be easily proven in the manual. It will list cross country speeds as slower, with many cautions about stopping, slopes, obstacle climbing and crossing, and getting stuck.

If you are going to have trouble with your local DMV, maybe go to another office?

Finally, failing to issue a registration to you means every other HMV on the road is suddenly suspect. I suggest you pay your $$ and join the MVPA https://www.mvpa.org/ and look at their documentation. You won't be the first owner to face this challenge.

The LAST thing you want to do is engage some petty, narrow minded, self righteous/self important bureaucrat at a motor licence office. Do NOT stand before said apparatchik telling him or her what a awesome and cool armour car you have, give them the bare minimum to get the license, thank them, then get out the door. Treat it the same as a "car", to do otherwise causes the ugly head of officialdom to awaken from its slumber with nothing better to do then jerk your chain five ways to Sunday..............and deny the registration anyways....because they can.........and will.

I tend to agree with James on this one.

Having been engaged in some interesting projects I have found that a tactical withdrawal and a regroup and find a more straight forward option.

Somewhere, somebody can help you, but not that office.
